FEATURED TAXA: Utahraptor, Kelenken, Pelagornis, Argentavis, Carnotaurus, Pycnonemosaurus, Torvosaurus, Gigantoraptor, Therizinosaurus, Deinocheirus, Mapusaurus, Giganotosaurus, Tyrannosaurus, Spinosaurus
Music by Kai Engel ¨interception¨
and Jason Shaw ¨namaste¨
correction note: At 1:48 and 1:58 it should say ¨Allosauroid¨ instead of ¨Allosaurid¨, referring to the larger group Allosauroidea, not the Allosauridae family.
Also keep in mind that estimated measurements vary depending on the source and the specimen. The numbers stated here are what is considered the average for each taxa. Weight is specially hard to calculate in the case of extinct animals. Consider the numbers a rough estimate for a general idea.

Largest Theropods by continent:
N. America - Tyrannosaurus rex
S. America - Mapusaurus roseae
Asia - Deinocheirus mirificus
Africa - Spinosaurus aegypticus
Europe - Torvosaurus gurneyi
Australia - "Brontonyx australensis" AKA The Lightning Ridge Megaraptoran
Antarctica - Cryolophosaurus ellioti

@@sauroarchive Mapusaurus is actually bigger than Giganotosaurus
It's really highly disputed what theropods were largest in South America and Asia due to incomplete fossils. In South America it's close between Giganotosaurus, Oxalaia and Mapusaurus and in Asia it's disputed between Tarbosaurus, Deinocheirus and Therizinosaurus. It won't be fully resolved until we get an adult specimen of Mapusaurus and more complete skeletons for Oxalaia, Deinochierus and Therizinosaurus.
Giga is BIGGER than mapusaurus (weight) and weight is everythong

My oppinion is that in Argentina in the Cretaceous it had to exist an even lerger carnivorous theropod of at least 15-16 m because of the huge sauropods which existed there. Only such a big dinosaur could hunt them down. I am sure that they will discover it in the next 5-10 years.
it's your opinion but to date actually the rex is much robust and bigger, 15 16 m is unrealistic.
I mean, that's the same length as Spinosaurus, but spino is semiaquatic, and completely different built than other theropods. 15-16 m is way to massive for an terrestrial predator, because it wouldn't be fast enough to effectively use hit and run tactics on sauropods, because it would be to slow. And a sauropod could kill everything with a stomp or probably even its tail.
@@rodrigopinto6676 Nope. More than 13 meters is unrealistic for tyrannosaurus while Spinosaurus isn't done growing so 15 to 16 is still valid. Try again lol

0:46 ¡Estoy tan acostumbrado al juego Argentavis del Ark que el juego real parece pequeño!
argentavis was giant, there are estimates of this bird with an incredible 8m of wingspan, 3.5m in length and 1.8m in height when standing in floor.
there are some more recent estimates where they place it with a smaller span, from 5m to 6.5m, but it is still something uncertain and that needs more studies. but what can we say that the argentavis was immense.
another curiosity, argentavis could reach up to 72kg in weight, almost the average of an ostrich.
Based on Scotty, T Rex is now 13m, 8.8T
There are no official measurements of Scotty. John R Hutchinson stated that both Sue and Scotty are about the same size with a mass difference of merely a bit. Asier Larrenmendi and Scott Hartman has Sue at 8260kg to 8400kg.
Scotty is 12.6 meters long & 10.6 tons in weight
Scotty is 12.3 meters
Scotty is now 12.4m & 11t
This is wrong. Weights have been boosted. T.rex weighed ten tons, spino weighed 8 tons, giga weighed 7 tons

Here is a comparison of the most complete and sure estimates of five theropod dinosaurs and an unsure estimate of a larger Spinosaurus (S. cf. "aegypticus") and an unsure estimate of a new Spinosaurus species (S. indet.):
1 tonne = 1000 kilograms
"Big" means mass
Height is measured at the hip
Tyrannosaurus rex (FHMN PR 2081 - "Sue")
Length - 12.39 meters
Height (hip) - 3.8 meters
Total height - 4.32 metrs

(RSNM P2523.8 - "Scotty" is estimated between 10,800 to 11,000 kg. Tyrannosaurus' build is the only theropod type that can support that much weight.)
Giganotosaurus carolinii (Mucpv-Ch1- holotype)
Length- 12.57 meters
Height (hip) - 3.5 meters
Total height - 3.76 meters
Weight - 7.8 tonnes
(Paratype is estimated at 9.6 tonnes but the specimen is known from an incomplete dentary. A new study says 10.4 tonnes but is largly unreliable due to the measurements given, which were provided by Darknix who is not a paleontologists or scientist. He gave them to Dan Folkes.)
Mapusaurus roseae (MCF-PVPH 108)
Length - 12.23 meters
Height (hip) - 3.46
Total height - 3.73 meters
Weight - 7.4 tonnes
Spinosaurus aegyptiacus (IPHG 1912 VIII IK - holotype)

Total height - 2.74 meters
Weight - 3.7 tonnes
Spinosaurinae indet. (MSNM v4047)
Length - 14.43 meters
Height (hip) - 2.35 meters
Total height - 3.82 meters
Weight - 7.3 tonnes
Spinosaurus cf. "aegypticus" (NHMUK R 16421)
Length - 13.1 meters
Height (hip) - 2.3 meters
Total height - 3.76 meters
Weight - 6.81 tonnes
Carcharodontosaurus saharicus (UCRC PV 12)
Length - 12.08 meters
Height (hip) - 3.4 meters
Total height - 3.63 meters
Weight - 7 tonnes
Spinosaurus aegyptiacus ≠ Spinosaurinae indet.
Tyrannosaurus rex is the biggest theropod and by extension the biggest fully terrestrial carnivore ever to walk the Earth.
Tyrannosaurus rex was also the smartest out of all large theropods, as smart as a baboon, or even a chimpanzee. www.google.com/amp/s/www.sciencefocus.com/nature/inside-the-mind-of-a-dinosaur-2/amp/
While having impeccable eyesight better than a hawk and incredible smell, Tyrannosaurus had the strongest bite of any fully terrestrial animal ever, 6 tonnes. The bulk and amount of muscle of T. rex gives it strength and the large ilia gives Tyrannosaurus agility over C. saharicus, S. aegyptiacus, S. cf. "aegypticus", S. indet, M. rosae and G. carolinii.
T. rex beats S. aegyptiacus, S. cf. "aegypticus" and S. indet. in water due to them not swimming better than any other theropod.

Moa( biggest bird by height)
i recently heard that some studies suggested that characarodontosaurus was larger than giga. has that now been proven false?
Carcha is larger than Giga i think too but maybe information have changed? It was estimation after all
Problem with that is you can't use the largest found specimen or the largest speculated size to determine how large the animal actually was, there's always a chance that the specimens we have avaible are just very large/very small, the reason why you can't use the largest is because in this case the largest Carchar could very easily be bigger than rexes we found, but the average size these animals would grow would be smaller than average size of rexes, therefore making them smaller.
