Building an Attached Garage Full Time-lapse

- While building this 48x48 work shop / attached garage, I used almost 100% GoPro hero 5 black cameras for the time-lapse construction video. It was a pretty fun build where we had to connect the new garage with the original post frame home. It added some complexity with the way the home was finished inside. This meant we were not able to tear off the old roof, but rather lay over top with 1x fir strips....but you can just watch and see. If you haven't already, hit that subscribe button. We have some great projects shaping up for 2019, and you don't want to miss them!

I know its long...no music...but I wanted to just throw it out there and see what you guys thought. Let me know in the comments because I have a couple other builds completely filmed...I just didn't have time to edit all the videos for them...maybe I can do this when I need catch up.
Like the longevity. Can watch vids like this on my free time all day. Keep em coming Kyle.
It's interesting.
How long does it take from start to finnish
Some how, I expected hear the "Nutcracker Suite" playing. Maybe a like this... ua-cam.com/video/I_7AvrTnMpY/v-deo.html
Keep tossing these up. Long format, no music, just building is awesome to see.
I was fortunate to have a step-father that’s hobby was a cabinet building... he had power machines that needed lots of space yet were jammed into a single car garage...this man taught me the love of woodworking and the important of space.
From the start, Ryan was very helpful and is continuing to be helpful about his ua-cam.com/users/postUgkxGqOCINHE0Z0E5gxzSdNi9NWGugRY5Hm2 Plans . Also, they have answered all the questions I have asked & I got outstanding support from his My Shed Plans full package.
I truly admire guys whose garages are bigger than their houses. THAT shows proper priorities. 😄
lol thats funny
I was going to ask if the guy was single, no way would my wife allow the shop to be bigger than the house.
Ted Bownas it’s not only me then. I have noticed a few garages bigger than the adjoining house here. Lol sadly I can only dream.
That's why I'm yet to be married gentlemen. LOL Too many plans that I don't want to compromise on.
prolly a business
I’m a carpenter (retired) and a builder (semi active at 69). Your crew knows exactly what they are doing. Impressive.
i wanted to know how to go into carpentry? is it easy?
I'm 76 years old and I have watching most of your video's and have enjoyed them more then anything I have ever watch. Would like to get to know your crew as much as I have got to know you. Thanks a lot. Keep them coming.
The way you framed those valleys in is pure artwork that nobody will ever .. except maybe in this video
Wow! I can't believe you guys got all that work done in just 24.39 minutes. One more job done great.
Keep up the great work and God bless.
Right...that would have taken me every bit of an hour and a half. LOL
Нормально все, нормально нереально. Конфету съел, кофе выпил, лайк поставил и спать.
А сегодня в завтрашний день не все могут смотреть. Вернее смотреть могут не только лишь все, мало кто может это делать.

You have my complete respect for working in that weather. That's 100% big kahuna's right there. When I was twenty, I worked in front of a backhoe operator nicknamed 'Coffee' in Greenville, SC, laying sewer lines deep in the ground in the middle of dead winter and it taught me a lot about sucking it up and getting it done.
I was a Carpenter for 16 years. I really want to get back into it just so my son have the opportunity to learn the trade the way I did. There is a work ethic that gets inbeded in our soul from being a carpenter, that will path the road to success in all.
Slick piloting of the drone through the trusses. Skills continue to amaze.

The connection between workshop and garage is art.
Thanks I appreciate that
every man`s dream, having a garage bigger than his house
TheMadJoker87 I have that same dream!
You don't need to buy a house, you just need one of these with living quarters up top, just don't get married...

You guys are so smart for working off aerial platforms. Makes the job so much easier and safe. Imagine doing this off ladders or scaffolding...
Glad you didn't add any music. Most times bad music choices can ruin time lapse videos. Really enjoyed this video. Was neat seeing you connecting the two buildings together. Thanks for uploading.
@twitch moments Too much work.
What a beautiful shed. So nicely put together. I hope you insulated the ceilings as well. I insulated the roof of my shed last year after having two summers of 45 deg Celsius. What a difference it makes. Cheers from the land down under.
Amazing as is. I really loved seeing the entire scope of the project. The timelapse really showed the high-level process well.
Thanks.
It don’t need music. I was thoroughly interested in watching this.
I'm all for having these types of videos if that means we get to see more of your builds! I enjoyed watching it!
I loved how you didn't bother cutting into the roof of the house , just put another roof on it. Simple
It was spray foamed underneath... would have been tough
I was scratching my head on the “attached “ part in the title for most of the video. Many of the shots it was hard to tell there was a building close by. Nice build.
Also good editing with no music! It's nice not having to turn the volume down and then up when you start explaining the job. Thanks.
Is this You Cuz? Oildale here...
Enjoyed every second of it! Kinda nice just sitting in the silence. Great work, Kyle!
The same.
I’ll never understand a thumbs down on well-produced informative videos. I guess some people weren’t raised with the admonition “if you can’t say anything nice, don’t say anything at all.” Nice job on the building and the videos. I’ve gained countless ideas for my future “dream shop” from your efforts.
Love it, would have like to have seen the entire build.......doors, concert....etc!
With Christmas looming and vacation time being threatened I decided production was more important. Maybe next time
Those scissor lifts were absolutely Imperative to the build. Amazing!
I played Yakety Sax in the background which increased my enjoyment by 200%! I highly recommend it.
Dueling banjo is another good tune to listen to with silent video and some other selective instrumental music choices.
That scissor lift is a beast. Awesome having the right tool for the job.
love a detailed breakdown on the other videos but loved just watching the whole process start to finish in 1 video , good work Kyle and that wall through roof was a masterpiece
I totally agree. Love seeing it all on one video and love the breakdowns. Keep em coming, eh.
Love your work mate. During my working life I always stressed “always keep the work site.(Civil Construction) tidy and at the end of each working day water/rain proof. Terrific to see that you have the machinery to make your work fast and safe.
Always great viewing, congratulations mate.
I’m about to start a steel truss pole barn I have to say I’ve learned a ton from watching you guys. Now let’s see if I can get it to turn out as nice. Thank you for what you do.
Guessing it is not a Miracle Truss type steel truss.
WOW.. Kudos to all the guys who worked so hard on this build.. what a 'team'!!
It was alright but I wouldn’t do it all the time. Your personality and commentary is what I like, also when you get Greg involved.
Good job!
that little kubota skid steer was pretty impressive.
It’s not little lol it’s a big one
I’m a garage-a-holic and really enjoyed this video, definitely put in some music or even some vocal commentary of the steps, but I still watched it to the end, thank you for feeding my addiction today
I think this is one of the most satisfying videos I have ever seen.
My wife and I just sold our home and are moving out to the sticks of Idaho, and this was a great learning experience. Thanks for taking the time to put it up, and I enjoyed it the way it is, no music was nice and relaxing to watch. I'm considering going the pole building route for our main home, but can't find much info online about pro's and cons of doing so. Do you or anyone else have any reading recommendations? I want to learn as much as possible to make an informed choice. Not sure if this is a cheaper route than traditional stick frame or if it's just a time saver home wise. Will be going this route for the shop for sure, just not sure about the home yet. Thanks for any info you might give.
look up Post Frame Advantage and Pole Barn Guru for advice and tips for starters
@@Joshua79C Thank you very much for the tips, I will check those out right now.
Pole frame makes a stronger house, due to lack of joint between floor and the load doesn’t is always on the one long stud, with stick framing you save some money with not need as long of studs but the house won’t be as strong. Also pole framing has the advantage of dealing with settling and expansion/contraction better since there are lest joints between sections.
I’m a retired crane op and my hats off to the little bobcat with a stinger
Its ridiculously satisfying how all the parts fits perfectly!! Big thumbs up for u man
Very helpful video. A builder here in New Zealand recommended your channel and I have been addicted since. I am blown away by your speed and construction methods and accuracy. I am helping diyers here in New Zealand to understand the process of building simple cabins. I hope I design something using your method someday soon!
I wanted to see the dirt floor to final floor steps
me too...was wondering why not get the floor poured early on?
@@michaelslack5269 I saw in another video that he contracts out that part of the work
I think that should have been the first step if he was going to pour a concrete floor they went the other route in the begging so I don't think there will be a slab floor
It’s pretty common to not have the concrete poured right away, just have gravel put down first. The ground needs to settle before the concrete is done so it doesn’t crack when the ground shifts
@@outofrangetv2353 how long will you have to wait for the ground to settle before concrete?
The roof that connects the two buildings looks amazing!
THANK YOU FOR SHEARING THIS AMAZING BUILD, I ENJOYED EVERY SECOND OF IT. AND THE BONUS NO MUSIC... YOUR THE BEST....
Thanks
He sheared the build? What part did he shear?
You said "SHEARING" this video. Speaking of shearing, how the hell do you get signed off on a building with this much wind factor and no sheer wall ?
simply amazing. I live here in Brazil and I really admire the speed and quality of your work.
Astounding! Was such a privilege to watch. Thank you. Bloody hard work you guys pulled there. Impressive stuff. Great energy.
i love the way you attached the new building to the old one. It actually gave a nice idea for a new project.
You had me all kinds of confused on the transition from existing roof to breezeway roof. I couldn't imagine a way to make that waterproof until I saw your stripping for the new roof. Lol
You weren't the only one confused lol
perfect have to keep you guessing
Do the "bumps" in the foam filler strips fall under the ribs when you run them at an angle in the valley? Do they stretch enough to make the layout work?
Yeah, me too!
I appreciate the extra time taken to make the continuous video review of the complete job! I will watch each and every one as it gives a very good perspective of the entire job. Please continue if possible. I will try to find a UA-cam searchable way to find each one. Thank you again Kyle!!!
How come there are people giving the thumbs down? Impressive work! Thank you for the video.
people with different ways of building, I for one didnt give him a thumbs down, but I dont like how he installs the windows, The framing of the window should get the excess house wrap, hard to tell if they even put a level on the window either
I've watched about 20 of your videos over the last two days (it's nice to be retired) and I couldn't be more impressed with your prep work, detail and overall craftsmanship. I'm DIY woodworker who simply loves anything that involves lumber and who would also love to have a much larger shop someday..hence my somewhat addictive draw to your videos. You may have addressed it in another video, but I'd be very interested in the business and logistical side of the house..i.e., how do you secure jobs, what's the lead time between contract signing to pouring the footings, do you use a program to calculate your supplies (lumber, screws, nails etc) and how many jobs to you keep in the que? Simply awesome work as well as phenomenal camera work. Thanks again for the outstanding content!
Thanks I appreciate it. I think a video like this would be a good one, but I am still wrapping my head around how that looks and if it would be interesting
I love it when you do the fly-thru's...Gives a great perspective.

Loved the format. Having watched many of your vids, I found myself self-narrating "And now we yada yada yada..." :)
congratulation on your UA-cam !! Wows this is the way it’s done boys. I Used to do pole barns in the 80s
Stumbled on this video. These men, they are beast! Great video
How much does it cast?
Yes!! How much does it cost?
Same lol
Man, you guys do such clean efficient work...makes it easy to watch a video like this again...even a year later =)
Who else was watching the smoke in the back during the time lapse 😂

Power plant?
John Wick's pencil probs
It is steam, not smoke. Most likely evaporative cooling for nuclear power?
Would be nice to see the rain gutters, down pipes internal flooring and lighting as part of the finished product. Looks like a very clean job arrived out by great craftsman. Thanks for sharing. I enjoyed the presentation and filming angles.
Man, you guys do great work!
When I get some property, I want your company to give me quotes on a building like this!
Props to you guys doing this all in the cold
You guys did a ton in one day
I loved the Drone shot thru the trusses
What a gorgeous setup! This is exactly what I'd love to have!
I am seriously considering doing this for a home/ garage/ b-ball court/ forever home!! Makes so much sense!!
What’s a rough estimate cost of a structure like that? If you don’t mind me asking.
Would be great if you could go back once the interiors are fitted out so we see the full completion to the overall project. Great videos though, enjoying them here in Scotland. Thanks for taking the time.
Not sure if I'm inventing a solution to something that isn't a problem Kyle, but when you put that Stablia magnetic torpedo level on the bracket to establish plumb you could also put a magnetic laser pointer across the bracket that would shoot a line across to the other side ensuring both brackets were parallel.
I am gathering you didnt see the string he was using instead of the laser
That skidsteer really made the job easier
I saw u edit this vid on the plane back to Chicago

How can you not be impressed

Amazing work guys. Loved every second of it.
I thought I be watching a garage build not a warehouse.
Great video 👍
Best part of this video is when you used the auger to dig the holes and didn’t need a backhoe because you hit shake a foot down
great work guys but I don't think it will resist cyclone
What does a building like this cost?
Yes
Too many factors to be exactly the same
65 grand for this one
I want one like this but a bit bigger for all my projects.
I wish you guys lived in Alabama. Y’all do some quality work and I thoroughly enjoy watching these buildings going up.
I like the color!
In Massachusetts they make you put in large form footings that the sono tubes sit on. This causes you to dig a hole 3x the size of the tube.
Risky drone shots, but great result👍🏻
Your work is top-tier...keep it up. I never thought I'd catch myself watching videos on building pole barns. However, I just looked at a property for sale which had a pole barn and noticed that the treated timbers were placed directly into the ground rather than placed on top of concrete footers. I wouldn't have ever given a second thought about wood rot affecting the life span of the building if I hadn't been watching you use concrete footers. I was a bit sceptical at first, wondering why you weren't just burying the poles like everyone else. However, it finally dawned on me that your buildings will have a much longer lifespan because the wood likely won't rot at the base since the wood is up and out of the soil. I also wondered why you put a wainscot around the buildings, then realized that it will be much easier and cheaper to later replace short damaged panels rather than an entire panel. I'm also amazed at the time and effort you put into getting the building plumb and level...it pays off when you hang steel. Thanks for keeping up the videos, they are awesome. I'll never look at a steel pole barn again without wondering how it was made, thanks to you.
You'd have to be a Man to watch this til the end! 💪🏾
i really like these kind of videos without music... i enjoyed it
You can always mute any music on UA-cam videos.
Hi from Russia. It's very cool work.
Я не понял как в боксе пол залили,прям на землю чтоль бетона слой с сеткой и все?
@@АвеЦезарь-я5ь его никто не заливал. Там осталась земля. Этот этап не показали.
I don’t think I’ve ever seen a telescoping boom pole on a skid steer, pretty cool
Great video, the lack of sound was weird so I loaded up spotify in the background and listened to some classical while I watched it.
Isn't the Internet just freaking AWESOME!!!
full of a lot of ignorant thoughtless asking "why no insulation in ceiling", not thinking let alone realizing from past videos of it being installed and showing how it is done AFTER the ceiling cover goes up by another contractor
only things I didn't see were the floor.. i'm assuming it would be a poured concrete floor? I would think that would be done before the building is completed. .. and the electric in the new building... something that big would need some outlets and lights i'd think?
Some jobs have the slab poured before some have it done after. Kind of a trade off on the way you do it. If you pour it before, you have to build a mold for the pad. If you build it like this, the walls themselves become the mold.
A lot of electrical in a shops is also ran outside the wall so it is easily changed. You could wire in the wall a rough guess to what you might need like an outlet every 6 feet or so but there are times when you need much more. Kind of hard to tell when you will need until you lay out all the equipment you will be using.
That was some impressive drone flying through the rafters
Great job as usual. Love the details. Definately love the time lapse part.
Hi, I'm from Colombia and I think it's a very good video, my humble opinion is that it would be very pleasant to place the total duration of the project day by day, the music or comments on the video, otherwise it is excellent congratulations and success.
What happens with all the space in the ceiling of the garage. Seems like a lot of wasted space. To bad it didn’t have a second floor
I definitely did NOT miss the music. Thanks.
You guys do outstanding work! Your channel has made me rethink my 4 car garage design for our new house. I'm thinking a pole barn style garage would be a better fit rather than a standard stick garage. Especially since I need a work shop space!
That’s awesome and a big goal for me and my channel. Just educate people on post frame as a viable option
@@RRBuildings do you only build up there or do you build across the country? I'm going to be building near Savannah GA and I have a few questions.
Awesome! Yes, I wanted more but for difference in videos it was great. Not every build is the same so why should every video.. pack your bags, we would be grateful for your team to come to Kentucky and build for us!
So the big question i have is how much does it cost to have a shop like this?
100k
@@GustavoLopez-uq6rs lol in California perhaps.
Slim Pickens, My boss had an 80x120 shop built, concrete floors, steel frame and trusses, 2 automatic wide doors and insulated for under $50k. Definitely shop around. Pole barns are cheaper $$
@@Pr0ph3cy-k5z That sounds impossible that 9,600 sq feet for 50k so $5 per square foot including concrete and insulation.
Good skills felluhs. You run a very efficient operation. You build completely differently to how things are done in my country. I’m guessing mostly because we have earthquakes and a wet and very windy climate. Im sure you have all this figured out but I have a few questions for you out of professional interest:
1/ Why didn’t you put building wrap on the gables?
2/ Do you use any kind of underlay under the roofing, and if not what’s stopping condensation forming on the underside of the iron?
3/ is there any kind of damp proof course between the timber frames and the concrete floor?
4/ Do you anticipate any issues with frost lift acting on your foundations?
5/ What’s stopping the wind driving rain underneath your ridge capping and causing a leak?
6/ Is the timber treated in any way for insect attack and/or rot?
7/ Does anyone from the local council come to inspect anything, such as the condition of the ground before you pour concrete or the connections between the foundations and the frames?
