+norfolkhillbilly If I have issues, I can just swap out the impeller. Just waiting for some parts to arrive and I need to get some cable to extend the connections and I can test it for real. The meter itself is panel mount, I can just about fit it in my PC case but doing so will make a lot of swarf so I am going to have to make a housing for it.
great project! i m doing an automated brew system. I am trying to select the best valves for hot water and wort. Could you give me an advise on the valves? seem solenoid valves are dificcult to clean after brewing. Thanks!
My original valve failed due to heat, I have another video somewhere of the new valve. If you use a diaphragm valve then it should be easy to clean but you have to watch out for food grade and working temperature range. You could use a ball valve with an actuator just like we brewers use ball valves on other parts of brewery but they are expensive. I don't want to specify a valve and you find it does not work for you. I think for my set up it would be better to use the flow meter & valve for water into the HLT only. I will recommend you look at the Brewpi shop as they have valves store.brewpi.com/mashing/valves
Thank you for your answer. I understand it would work ok in the hlt but since i want to automate also mash tun i think it would be better for.me to get a Ball one with actuator for wort easy cleaning. I Will let you know. Thanks again.
@@GuillonPadel Why not get ball valves across the brewery so it looks nice then add the flow meter for the HLT. The mash volume should be pretty close once you get the efficiency value right. You could add the flow meter if you was really keen and send the output of the hall sensor to a raspberry pi.The hall sensor should pulse which is dead easy to detect on the GPIO.
The electronics part would work but the provided impellor is not up to the job. I think there are compatible hall effect impellors but I have not investigated as I only use mine for water.
My instructions were in english but I am not sure where I put then. Look at this page for an image of what the buttons do www.banggood.com/ZJ-LCD-M-LCD-Digital-Display-Water-Flow-Sensor-Meter-Quantitative-Flowmeter-with-Solenoid-Valve-p-1044402.html.
nice review, can I use this to set my water filter to fill only 5 liters and shut off the filter? I think is a wast of time press the water flow and waiting till the 5 liter is done, about 3 minutes
The flow meter comes with a impeller which measures the water going through it. If you want to control the flow (on/off) then you need to get the one with a solenoid valve. First you connect a DC power supply to the control panel (I think it is 12v DC) then connect the impeller and the solenoid valve. That is basically it.
I have run water manually through mine, I never measured the accuracy but as long as the impeller is spinning it will register the flow. There are a couple of videos on the same flow meter, this video checks the accuracy with a slow flow rate ua-cam.com/video/mN-tPkVLSdM/v-deo.html
Sir, i watched your review 3 times. So once programmed (for e.g. 2 liters), to operate it can i simple pres to OK button every tim to add another 2 liters ? The question is thus if i ONLY need to press OK every time i want to fill something with a certain amount of liqued (i am asking for the EASE of operation).. i want to fill 10 identical buckets and simple want to move to hose to the next bucket and press OK again (of course with the cellunoid attached). Is this the way it will work ? Thank you
This is like the one I got. www.ebay.co.uk/itm/1-2-Water-Flow-Control-LCD-Display-Meter-Flow-Sensor-Solenoid-Valve-Gauge-/191925442424?hash=item2cafa5d778:g:q2IAAOSwMsVXjI~E Warning: my solenoid valve failed this week when running 80 degrees C water through it.
The flow meter will work with a lot of impellers. I noticed on ebay a seller claims their works with oil - www.ebay.co.uk/itm/3-8-Flow-Meter-Control-Display-Oil-Fuel-Gasoline-diesel-Milk-Gear-Sensor-/321783633924?hash=item4aebcc9804:g:YHwAAOSwZG9Wkfkd I have no idea if it will but as long as the impeller works with oil then it should be ok. I guess it depends on the viscosity of the oil, I can't imagine it working with crude oil.
I have not performed an indepth test (I know I should) but when I did a rough test, it was pretty accurate. 1 litre of water matched my sight glass. I will put a test on my list of videos to make.
My video was 3 years ago. www.aliexpress.com/item/New-Arrival-LCD-display-Digital-flow-meter-temperature-measuring-flow-senosr-total-Liter-Gal/32809674381.html says it does gallons or litres. Not sure if mine does but these new ones claim it is gallons. UK or US?

Nice bit of kit. Looks very useful.
Sir. It will store installs when power out within 24 hours ? ??please!
Awesome brew nerd stuff, Mark. Great idea at that. Cheers!
Great idea on the flow meter Cheers
Nice did look at a flow meter, did wonder what temps they handle, like the controller. cheers

Nice work, Might look into these.
How i can make it repeat filling automatically without pressing run/stop button?
Hi it cost how much, if u send to Kampala uganda
Great work and stuff!
i know am 5 years late lol but can you use this for other slightly thicker liquids like cooking oil, thanks
Now that is very cool you are the youtubes gagdet man cheers
Can I connect a water pump to this system?

Can I use it as diesel flow meter?

Great little gadget well done.
I Bought one of these meters for my kegerator and cannot find a intelligible manual anywhere, has anyone else found one?

Yes you can use this to fill only 5 litres.
I just need plug it on my water filter and plug the wires in the on/off switch button?

thanks, i will try to find it =]
Hi, and thanks for the video. I notice you have the solonoid valve after the impeller, is there a specific reason for that? Cheers
The solenoid valve is before the impeller on my brewery, the impeller is hidden under the bench.
Could it be used to fill bottles with right amount of beer ?
Yes absolutely, however you may wish to use a professional bottle filler as they do multiple bottles at the same time.
If I use a manual valve to slow sparge. How slow will the meter read the flow accurately?
I have run water manually through mine, I never measured the accuracy but as long as the impeller is spinning it will register the flow. There are a couple of videos on the same flow meter, this video checks the accuracy with a slow flow rate ua-cam.com/video/mN-tPkVLSdM/v-deo.html

Sorry for the slow reply, I will give it a test and get back to you.
Nice setup! Do you have a link for the parts?

hey, where did you get this? can i get it online?
Just search ebay for water meter or ZJ-LCD-M
will this work for gas
It may work but not with the impeller I bought. You are best looking for a model that was specifically made for gas.
i want to purchase it.how can i?
Just search ebay for water meter or ZJ-LCD-M. I just googled ZJ-LCD-M and noticed the prices have increased since I bought mine.

can this unit control flow rate? or is the solenoid full on or off only?
No the solenoid is either on or off.
Quick question: how accurate is it?
I have not performed an indepth test (I know I should) but when I did a rough test, it was pretty accurate. 1 litre of water matched my sight glass. I will put a test on my list of videos to make.
Gallons?

Thank you !
Hoverdog Brewery US .. I bought a few of the 3/4 kits complete with hall sensor and valve together. Did these work for you?
@@therealMFfeelyaheard The original valve failed due to high temps. I got a new valve and it works fine. I am sure I posted a link to the new one.
