I knew that this wasn't a good core. I almost fainted when they resigned Happ. Another year of Happ, two more years of Suzuki, and five more years of Swanson. The way they don't like to spend, I'll say we're in serious trouble. How do you build a team without one superstar? I wouldn't buy any of these guys' jerseys. It's hard to let the kids play when you have a core like this. These seasons are too long to not have anything to cheer about.

Honestly it is not on Craig, it is not Jed at this point. This is on these players, it’s not like they are rookies and we don’t know what they are. These are proven players that have a track record and are held to a certain standard. They need to perform, they need to do better and do what they are paid for. Dansby, Happ, Seiya, Belli, Morel. They need to do what they have done in the past it’s that plain and simple.
And this David bote thing is so confusing, don’t get why we didn’t just bring back Vasquez if we are going to defense first since that’s what technically madrigal was.
It actually is on jed because he bought into players that just arent that good. I honestly dont know what games hes watching where he thinks paying ian happ 20 mill a year is logical. Dansby swanson was sold to us as a star when he wasnt even close to the best player on the braves at the time. Why is wisdom and madrigal still on the team?
I'm almost certain craig continues to tell these players to aim to hit it out the park every single swing. On paper makes sense but when you see the lack of consistent power half of this starting line up has you're asking the opponents to stand under flys that were never gonna reach the track. It doesn't have to be pretty, nor a movie ending hit every game so bunting and hitting balls softer to land between their defence is critical when we have bases loaded. I'm so fed up of doing nothing with guys in SP
Morel is the 1st guy gone , I never believed in this guy. Streaky hitter with no position. Our best RH bat is Nico and he hits singles
What are you talking about he is trying to learn a new position has a cannon for an arm plays multiply positions and is one of the few players on this team that acts like it matters
yeaaa but caring extra hard doesnt make you stop swinging at bad pitches. Im a fan of his attitude but I dunno why we are so hellbent on trying to make him fit on the team. Shoulda traded Morel to the Rrays and package up one or teo of these other prospects you wont have room for and get a Isaac Paredes or Yandy Diaz.

Brewers fan here, first time listening great show!! The cubs will turn it around in division, brewers have gotten tons of breaks so far this season (besides injuries). As a division opponent, why is it the cubs consistently have good starting rotations but bullpens that let them down? Seems like a 10 years running issue for the club. Good luck rest of way!

Offense has been better, but then starting pitching goes bad. Starting pitching gets better but then the bullpen gets bad. We just can't win with them in May and now early June.

Cardinals fan here. Never was impressed with Counsel. Great players make great managers. Counsel has always ridden the wave. Now, drawing attention to himself, the wave breaks. No surprise.
I will expect a lot more from the Manager next year. I hope these guys start earning their money and I will start watching some games.

We have a team of supporting players and no leaders. Baseball is streaky but the cubs performance isn’t reflective of how they are on paper. There’s no leadership from any of the players and it shows

Does anyone think that our defense wows may be to the departure of Andy Green (since he was responsible for the defense placement and instructing)? I understand that Morel & Bush are new to the infield but we are dead last in defense.
If you’re excited about getting a wild card spot at all, your team probably isn’t that good and you’re just looking for ANY bright spot, which isn’t a bad thing, but the goal all season should be winning the division!! I’m not interested in talking wild card until August. The Diamondbacks last season was something that probably won’t happen again for a long time.
Everyone uses Arizona as an example of not giving up hope....there's no way Braves and Dodgers both get knocked out of first round like last year

Everyone wanted the cubs to land a big name in the off-season. They didn’t. Basically went with the same team and essentially currently there are similar results if not identical. Fighting for the third wild card spot seems similar to last year. So why not dh can of corn Suzuki. I’m glad they called up boti. Paying him over 5 million dollars a year to play in the minors you got to b kidding me

I am a Brewers fan. But I have three brother in laws all Cub fans. A question I have posed to them. Why didn't the Cubs hire Pat Murphy a million per year probably would have done it. Then used that extra seven million to pick up a power hitter for the middle of that line up. Managers may win a couple extra games a year for you. Power hitters 8-10 games a year
Can't believe what the payroll is for these guys. We need a 3rd baseman , a catcher and might need a 1st baseman

Counsel was let go by the Brewers knowing the Cubs would go after him. Their plan worked, the Cubs are worse than last year, Brewers beat the Cubs again on and off the field. Cubs front office is horrendous. The Manager doesn’t make the difference, players do

I think the Cubs should be sellers this year. I know it's still early in the year, but I just don't believe they can recover from this funk they're in. And I know these guys "care," but they definitely don't seem like they're playing with a sense of urgency. If they bring up some of their prospect players, maybe they'll play with a bit of a chip on their shoulder. They have a great starting rotation, and I've heard good things about some of their prospects. I say we give them a chance to prove themselves. Can't do worse with what they have now, right?

There's no one to sell outside of the starting pitchers. None of these guys can help a team with world series aspirations. Happ and Swanson have no trade clauses, so they would have to approve it.
News from another podcast 51'times since 2020 that cubs average in a 30 day stretch was under 220

Indeed. They chose not to pitch him against the Cardinals and karma and the baseball gods bit them. Imanaga has the slowest average velo of all starters in MLB. Unless he is pinpoint, he will get lit.
Disappointment is an understatement. Lousy defense…pitching overall is blah…can’t hit. Will check back in around the end of August…to see if we are near 500.

Lets talk about the lineup. I hate to say it because Tauch has been our most consistent player on a positive. We have had others that have been more consistent , but thats consistently bad. I believe though we have to play Busch. In order to do that , Tauch has to come out. Belli has to move to RF. Suzuki to DH. Does Belli really want to go to RF ???
This time is so brutal to follow. Clearly have talent on the team but that talent rarely executes at a high level.

Reds fan, I think the Cubs will be fine. We lost, I believe, 5 straight series and most in embarrassing fashion before winning 6 of our last 9 games. The season is a roller coaster. See you guys at the finish line!

This team is just going through the motions and is playing with absolutely no emotion or intensity. Council is just running the same guys out there every day OK he played Bote but Amaya and Swanson are not hitting their hat size. He needs to put PCA in CF EVERY day regardless of how he hits and play Bellinger at first that leaves the DH for Wisdom
and everybody else. Watch the Phillies if you want to see emotion and intensity.
The Cubs are so lackadaisical it’s maddening. They’re just showing up! If the fans are the ones responsible for getting the team excited about winning, they’re in BIG trouble!

- no bullpen cohesion
- terrible defense

I’ve finally figured out what it’s like watching Justin Steele pitch.
Imagine you’re at the grocery store in the pre Information age, where baggers brought your groceries to your car for you.
Now imagine waiting behind Justin Steele as MR. Steele requests that all of his groceries are to be put in 1 bag, and insists on the bag not being double bagged.
So as you’re standing there watching this all happen, you cringe at the sight of the poor bagger (Suzuki) , struggling to fit everything in 1 bag.
At last, everything is bagged.
Now MR Steele picks out a pack of Juicy Fruit gum, and requests that Suzuki not only carry the groceries out to Steele’s car, but that he also carry the gum, but under no circumstances is he to put the gum in the bag with the other groceries.
So as Suzuki follows MR Steele out to his car, he mind numbingly puts the Juicy Fruit in with the other groceries….and like clockwork…. The bag gives way, and MR Steele’s groceries are everywhere in the store parking lot.
And if this isn’t bad enough… Justin Steele looks back at Suzuki and says:
“ Oh look what you did!!!🤬 This is all your fault!!!”
*THE END*
This exactly what happens when Justin Steele pitches. He constantly has traffic on the bases. Constantly places his teammates in trouble. And then due to an error, he avoids all responsibility entirely.
Loads the bases.
Inning after inning.
Hit after hit.
Suzuki commits an error.
3 runs score.
Steele then gives up another hit.
Another run scores.
And the guy who
- Trippled (left stranded at 3rd)
- hit a grand slam (4 RBI)
- is now deemed to be “even” for his mistake
And Justin Steele goes 5 innings with whip of 1000.00 and is responsible for 1 earned run.
This isn’t about Suzuki.
I admit he’s a liability.
But this stuff with Steele.
The guy is a run machine.
He had like 15+ “unearned runs” last year and already at 5 this year.
And he’s still had an ERA of almost 4.00 since all star break.
The stuff about “Steele leading the Cubs to the promise land” is a joke.

I told you this Cubs team stinks and this organization needs to redo who is running these things .When we didn't get a big bat a,starting pitcher and a couple closers I said we are going nowhere in the beginning of the year .Council bad decisions but not all his fault, so guys get your golf clubs out and go out to the beach instead of watching a team that torturous watch .Have a 4:05 day. good
For being labelled a top manager in MLB he seems overrated. He brings in Hendricks in a high level situation, pinch hits for Wisdom with Madrigal. He refuses to hit and run when the team isn't scoring runs. He really just doesn't seem to have any urgency to win games. I think he's too concerned with the future and not today.
With the Brewers, he would bring in Matt Bush in 1 run games, Jesse Winker (he of 1 EBH in 3 months) was his first pinch hitter.
