    Tools Used
    I used a free digital art program called Medibang Paint Pro to do most of the drawing, and then exported the file to Photoshop CC to make the final colour adjustments. If you're ever on the look out for a really awesome and easy to use digital art program I really highly recommend Medibang! It features a ton of awesome brushes and supports a lot of the basic features that digital artists need u I'll have a link down below to their website!

    FAQ
    How long did this take?
    It varies! If it's a five minute long video, then between 3 to 4 hours. If its between 7-10 minutes, it was probably a bigger piece which can take anywhere between 10-15 hours.
    Where did you get that fur textured brush? tinyurl.com/yd...
    Where did you get the flat brush?
    That one's from the Medibang cloud (click the little cloud shaped button with the arrow at the bottom of box with the list of brushes). There you will find all the additional brushes made by Medibang - plenty of gems to download and test out.
    Where did you get all these brushes and textures from?
    They're from a mix of stuff! Some of them are made by other artists and you can easily find them just by typing in 'medibang brushes' or 'firealpaca brushes' into Google. Some are brushes that I made myself. Some are actually Photoshop brushes! You can import most Photoshop brushes into Medibang by downloading an ABR Viewer. Since most Photoshop brushes are in the .abr format, you can use the program to view all of them and convert them into .png files. Once you've done that just click and drag the brush image into the Medibang brush list and you'll have a new brush to play with!
    You can find most of the brushes I have just by doing a Google search. Please give this a try before asking me for specific brushes! I really don't have the time to answer all the questions I get :)

    Hey I got a little question: how do you keep the motivation to keep working on a piece? I've studied your way of digital painting to apply some techniques to my own, but I always find that I run out of patience VERY quickly. Especially with the backgrounds and drawing fur. Do you have any tricks to help with staying focused on a piece? Thanks in advance :3

    • @clockbirds
      @clockbirds  6 років тому +86

      haha i do struggle a bit with patience actually TuT full illustrations like these usually take 7-10 hours but i never finish them in one sitting. i usually set aside 1-2 hours every night to work on a piece and it really helps to take breaks from any single piece to reflect and not get frustrated with it.
      also with time intensive things like backgrounds and texturing fur, once you nail down the general technique the process becomes a lot quicker. it takes a bit of effort and time and a lot of practice, but it definitely pays off after a while!

    I look up to your artwork so much, every piece is so gorgeous. Do you have any advice for someone who hates their own art? I just feel like I'm stuck in a loop of being let down every time I draw these days.
    You help inspire me to keep going, thank you :^)

    • @Rice_crispi
      @Rice_crispi 6 років тому +4

      I'm like that too. Every time I draw, I just see the mistakes I did, and not the good things about the drawing. Recently, I did a few drawings that I really like, and I made them out of just random lines that I drew. Keep moving forward in your art life, and take inspiration from things you see. I know i'm not Jax, but i hope this helped you to keep going with art.

    • @clockbirds
      @clockbirds  6 років тому +17

      yeee hating your own art is a super common thing and most artists spent most of their artistic career going through it ;o;
      but it's definitely one of those temporary states that you just have to keep working through. try pinpointing the things that you don't like about your art and solve it like its a problem! break it down into smaller, more achievable subgoals and take one step at a time ^u^ you can do it!!

    I like how you do your art because you won't out line it with black and then you will just start coloring over it and it looks way better without the black outline.

    Oh my, once again you made a stunning piece! And once again, I’m late. Why do you do this me school, whyyyy. Anyway, I have to say, I think this is my new favourite piece - the colours work so well (or maybe I just really like autumn?), the poses also work so well, the swans and trees create a well-embedded frame, the blurring of the background helps to emphasise the foreground, everything flows and, just gah! Your art is so amazing! Your a huge inspiration of mine I hope you know that :)
    Also, I have a question to ask, well, two actually. The first one is, have you (Jax) ever tried animating? The second is (to everyone), any advice on animating or creating art in general? (it can be anything, be it general or specific, all advice is helpful! Thanks!)

      G. Snapdragon Well, i have 3 notebooks, 1 is for annoting everything that a tutorial on youtube says and dividing it on topics, also stuff that i find on internet about it, from to tutorial, even to the most specific thing. The other notebook, i create charts, lists, sequences of talking (for animation or subbing), rotine and others. And the 3 one is for random notes and urgent immediate information keeping, i look it a lot, so it helps me remembering to watch a movie, video, and other things, it also helps me putting ideas on it, and use or enjoy then later, like (Ex: Squirrel dancing bale) or even a idea for stories. I never discard a empty old notebook, it can be really useful. The rest, i just favorite tutorial links and sites on folders inside my browser.
      The last tip is drawing everyday, randomly doing circles, squares, lines, curves, even random sudden ideas, even when you dont have ideas for drawing, do it, do it a lot, even you feel perfect or fine, keep doing it, it will help you out on relaxing or preparing yourself. That is how i study it, hope i helped.

      Iago Ravelli thank you so much!! This is very helpful, I’ve never thought of dividing the things I learn in different notebooks or keeping so much notes just for art - I guess I shouldn’t trust myself to remember everything lol (sorry for replying so late, school is killing me man X3)

      About UA-cam Channels, i watch Proko, Art of Aaron Blaise, JelArts (Guess there was a video when she talked about really basic tips, having a 50 dolar graphic tablet and color theory), Draw with Jazza (I love his video about anatomy, biotypes and perspective & scenario), Sycra (ua-cam.com/video/5kK71t-I-2w/v-deo.html watch this video about figure drawing), mikeymegamanga (He teachs in one video drawing girls from down view, it is really useful), Alphonso Dunn (He use traditional material, but teaches really good at the basics and others), ua-cam.com/video/bjoZzOeuLEY/v-deo.html Graphic Tablet Life Hacks (Its mind blowing), ua-cam.com/video/F1xP-e-y2Ns/v-deo.html.
      Like... I watch and study all of those art videos, but improvement is something that takes a really long way, so if you see something, a oportunity that can help you, fuckin grab it and dont let it fuckin go. Really, watching lives, something big, or whatever, just enjoy it. Hope it all helped again

    I have a question, what is your technique for drawing animals? I know that may sound unspecific, but I am always amazed on your animal anatomy, and I was curious if you had any tips or tricks to help with that. (something that I struggle with and continue to practice) Especially the legs and paws.
    Thank you! OwO
