I’m having to deal with that tweeter terminal post problem on my savard pro tweeters. I had to shave the hole for the pods a little more than the specified cutout, but all and all it’s doing ok with a little extra speaker gasket tape. But I wish companies put more thought into it knowing issues like that could arise. Solid upload Toid!
Thanks 3rd Era! I am in agreement. I just don't understand why they keep choosing to do that. I've had some build where it gets very close to the recess. I get nervous that it will affect the sealing. CSS just sent over some of their LD25X tweeters and I personally wrote them back thanking them for their terminal placement. Definitely well thought out on those. www.css-audio.com/online-store/CSS-LD25X-XBL%5E2-25-mm-Silk-Dome-Tweeter-p144557321
LOL. I have those speakers and I built that same amp as well. They go great together. These things sound brutally honest. If your source is garbage, garbage is coming out. If the source is amazing, it will sound amazing. My daughter said the highest highs sounded 'crackly' but everything else was velvety smooth and clear. I didn't notice that but her ears are probably better than mine. I followed Toid's crossover schematic and bought some nice quality crossover components. I think I spent about $180 on the components with a decent chunk of that for the tweeter caps. Honestly though it would be hard for me to pick between these and the Toid/Kirby collaboration. I haven't heard the Dinas yet but I'm collecting parts to build them.
Could it be that they cheaped out on the machining on later batches? I just got my 6,5s and the top and backplate aren't machined like yours. I don't mind it. Just wondered why that may be. Sound wise even now free air i'm REALLY impressed. Can't wait to get the enclosures done! Your build seems really great!
I'd love you to try making some digital FIR linear phase filters for them with a miniDSP (or similar DSP) and rePhase, it's a lot of different components but well worth it compared to the phase alterations passive components make.
This Classical soundtrack tests the smoothness of all the drivers and cover design skill, nothing taxing to overall performance maybe you try 1-2 more tracks that test the dynamics, soundstage of drivers working together, etc. For the price of each driver and the total price is by no means affordable for some DIYers do you think they are worth every penny?
Pretty sweet sounding, even listening over different speakers (well decent sounding speakers) you can still hear the sound quality somehow.... The most prevalent Ive noticed was PS audios monster infinity irs5's? You can actually hear there clean powerful giant sound. A project I'd love to see is a 4 way tower with tweet, mid, woofer and subwoofer in the same enclosure I never see it and it should be just a really cool unusual setup with a stout enough amplifier.✌️
Love your work. Again. By the way, as a Dane, way back when for my sins, it’s pronounced poonkt keelleh. Kind of... the “d” is silent anyway, a pretty consistent quirk of the Danish language. As we say, Danish is a tough one... especially for the natives...
By the way, as a Dane, I feel entirely within my rights to call these guys out on really stoopid branding. It means “point source”, but there’s nothing cute about branding that only 5 million or so people can understand and pronounce. Just ask Kvart & Bølge...
Congrats! Ya now made a pair of speakers for under a grand that competes against the really pricy big dawgs :D This really makes me wanna rebuild my surround system with these (Damn you Tidal! lol)
Hi, tx for this vid. do you have any speaker brand come up or planning to? Or know someone who wishes to go that way. Someone who is open to cater to various pricepoints. Thanks
Nice info. Question: what is the name of the music piece and played it n what label? Sounded nice and relaxing. Side comment: aouch on the dented tweeter. ;)
Dear sir, when are u going to built speakers like the trio 15 of pure audio project or line arays like the nxteme of dany Ritchie......we are all waiting and trusting u ...
Hahaha lol let's hear some 5FDP through them suckers😂 Ever listen to Jean Luc Ponty " No absolute time" or Eric Kenzel/ Cincinnati "Time Warp" if not you should check them out. They sound great man from what I can tell through YT..! When will these drivers be available to the public? Parts Express..?
Your measurements for the 4" driver and the tweeter are pretty close to the manufacturer specs, but the 8" woofer measurement is very different. What may have caused the difference and is there a concern with that dip between the 200Hz to 400Hz in your measurement?
This was an in-room response. Everything under 500hz will not be correct. It'll be close, but the room will be added into that. For a true measurement under 500hz, I would have had to add since close mic measurements of the woofer and port then splice them in.
Been wanting to build speakers pretty bad, however tools and space a bit of a challenge. My question to you. Can I pick up some for shit speakers and just replace the guts, keeping the cheap speaker boxs for the base of a killer speaker set?
If your just starting to build speakers try parts express for a speaker kit everything is done for u all u have to do is glue the box up no tools required well some clamps But you don't need many tools to build them a drill and a circular saw and sander to start I build mine in the front yard on an old coffee table But remember your first sets won't sound great until you figure out crossover design so I stuck with cheap drivers till I got them to sound good then moved up to mid priced divers. Good luck it's fun to do and great results for the price
Sure if you can find drivers that fit, though the box can usually be too “sh*t” = resonances. The crossover is important so you’ll either have to measure/go by ear, or simulate a lot with the box size for baffle effects etc. Simulations can do quite well if you can’t get measuring equipment as that’s a whole other thing to learn. Personally I find the simulations can be fun. One other option is to build a pre existing design and find boxes that are a similar size or that use kit cabinets as mentioned above
Have you used Seas speakers like CA21RNX or CA22RNX or exotic w8 or other seas speakers? they are very difficult speakers that do not have the best sound even though they are popular with higend people. You must have at least 10 crossover parts for 2 ways!
@@Toid YES. Seas has a reputation for being good speakers but I strongly disagree. They are well made but do not have the best sound quality. For example, you need to lower 300hz 400hz a good deal on many Seas speakers. For example, the Excel W8, which is the most expensive 8 inch Seas has, can withstand more watts on paper than the cheapest CA22RNX does. But in reality the exel withstand less watts and has no better sound than any other Seas speakers. If you are going to compare the sound on the Seas with anything then it will be old gittal speakers. especially (exel). Probably someone who disagrees with meh. I had Seas CA22RNX which is the cheapest Seas 8 inch and went over to Seas Exel w8. did I get better sound? NO! Test without crossover between Seas exel w8 and CA22RNX. exel w8 has no better sound. I'm talking about DIY high end speaker and no toys Exel w8 cost 975.84 USD. CA22RNC 142.72 USD.
A kick 4zZ build with massively rebellious sounding name, presents sound test. What'll it be to bump these bad boys, some Snoop Dogg, Dr Dre, maybe some period 80's metal? Why no, sir. That wouldn't be proper in the slightest. A modicum of classical to show off the true beauty that lies within is the only way. Cheerio! 😁
I'm not sure if you're being serious or if you're joking. if you're being serious, there's a great write up on audio science review where they test replacing sandcast resistors with the low inductance resistor. It's a pretty good read.

Nick listening to classical music, never would have pictured it. Sounds good playing over my system in the basement though.
Those measurements though... When Lord, when is it gonna be my turn to build with these?!
It could be any day. I run patreon Garage sales and these drivers will be in the next garage sale.
Love the cabinets and dat flat response doe! Great video as always Nick
I'd love you to try making some digital FIR linear phase filters for them with a miniDSP (or similar DSP) and rePhase, it's a lot of different components but well worth it compared to the phase alterations passive components make.
I was waiting for the music to switch, think NINs, or Prong, about halfway through....sounded great though✌
Looks great Nick! Guessing a kid got access to the left tweeter by the look of that dent? haha
Yeah, he did. I was actually taking the strictest precautions with them. But he got in my office one day when the door was unlocked...
they sound very nice well done. play the enigma AD album or cross of changes album it will blow you away.

VERY interested. DIY is on my menu to do.. Something simple like a bookshelf, and something insane.. like a Borresen tower. =) Advice?
Nice info. Question: what is the name of the music piece and played it n what label? Sounded nice and relaxing.
Side comment: aouch on the dented tweeter. ;)
I did hear a little weak string sound but similar to Tannoy Prestige Gold Reference Autograph Mini.

That is my type of 12 in sub I can't wait 👍✌️👌💯

Is that a dent on the left side tweeter?
It is. I left the room for 1 minute and I came back to that. The joys of a 2 year old 😁

You'd probably be better off just buying pre-built cabs on Parts Express, and the parts you like.

Is the left tweeter pushed in?
That's just one of the many dangers of having little ones. I mean, part of the fun of parenting.
Have you used Seas speakers like CA21RNX or CA22RNX or exotic w8 or other seas speakers? they are very difficult speakers that do not have the best sound even though they are popular with higend people. You must have at least 10 crossover parts for 2 ways!
I haven't. They must have some really low distortion to be worth that much hassle? That's crazy
@@Toid YES.

shame on you, not soldering wires on or using signal smearing sand cast resistors.
I'm not sure if you're being serious or if you're joking. if you're being serious, there's a great write up on audio science review where they test replacing sandcast resistors with the low inductance resistor. It's a pretty good read.
Toids DIY --- Audio any link to that good read?
