100%, this is life saving advice! I did a knife course back in the early 90's, we partnered up with one of us wearing a white tee shirt and the other armed with a felt tip pen, the aim was to stop getting pen on your tee shirt, mega fail, tee shirts were covered! The aim of the course was to bring home the reality of knife attacks, you CANNOT STOP these with fancy bullshit tricks taught by lunatic instructors, even if you are god's gift to Martial Arts.

Ah, but knife and gun defence training are cool and it makes you think you are Jason Bourne, fills classes full of fantasy warriors and earns dodgy instructors lots of money! As you say, do the fancy stuff after you've learned to make a fist and know how to use it!

i think learning to use a knife is important for knife defence because you can discover how you would attack someone with a knife (do you grab them with your non knife hand? what grip do you use? what angle do you use? in knowing this you can understand better the attack and therefore have a better defence.

i agree that you dont need to learn to be a pro knife fighter, just have handled a fake knife in a live drill.

Fear the one that has trained for 3 things 5000 times, than the person that's trained in 100 things, 5 times each.

7Earthsky shouldn't fear neather. One only fears the unknown. Why do you have the unknown. Don't. Train.

If you're going to try and make me believe you don't have fear, then you're wasting your time....Your either a liar or an adolescent trying to big himself up...It don't fool no one son.

Absolutely! Old masters trained in 1 or 2 Katas to perfection than train in 35 haphazardly!

1.40 will Usain Bolt switch to power lifting? No he's switching to football for an Aussie club. Mick's point stands but unfortunate example

You can say the same about fighting. Everyone knows how to fight. If they don't, they must have been hiding under a rock.

I dont see how what you are saying helps. There are danger signals in human nature. The aggressive agitated muscle flex being one of many. Hands down, shoulders in, stiff legged walk with the entire torso turning with each step. Someone offering to sell you something in a confined space or alley, while there buddy comes from behind. The verbal pissing match inside a social area then followed out to the parkinglot. strangers tugging at clothing as there group sorounds you. Sideways stares with pectoral and arm flexs. people walking up while your in a vulnerable position. hanging around your car and not dispersing as you walk up. all of these you want space, how to create it is a basic. Self defense and using violence, appropriate or not, is an old concept from the oldest known writings as a preamble to laws given. There are traditions going back to prehistory through pictures and other art. that its scary and confusing and know one knows what to do so punch is inadequate.
