    In this video, Matt and I visited the 131st Hirosaki Cherry Blossom Festival. Hirosaki Park is home to more than 2600 trees with over 50 different types of cherry blossoms. It's said that over 2,000,000 people visit the park during the festival which is held every year from late April to early May. This was a truly magical experience for both of us and we really hope everyone can experience this festival sometime in their life. This year, the cherry blossom trees bloomed the earliest they've bloomed in over 1,200 years - maybe even the earliest they've ever bloomed. We hope you enjoy the video!

    I'm so enjoying your videos of Japan! My (ex) husband and I were both stationed at Misawa AB, Apr 1971-Nov 1972. We visited the Hirosake Cherry Blossom Festival, too. It looks just as beautiful and fun today. We lived off-base in a small "subdivision" just outside what was the back gate, at the time. I loved my time there. Thanks for sharing your Japanese adventure!

      Awesome! Misawa is very small and very rural but there's plenty to do around the Tohoku region if you don't mind driving!

    My favorite! It was just over a year in Yokosuka when I really noticed Cherry Blossoms. I was walking from the back of the Navy Exchange to Yonban tower via "L" street, which is lined with Cherry Blossom trees. As I walked along, a slight breeze blew some petals from the trees and the petals cascaded like snow flurries and my troubles went with them. As I continued to walk, enjoying the moment of zen, My peace was interrupted by a car full of naval officers seeking directions. So I put on my best Sandhurst graduate accent and explained that they need to make a left out of the intersection, go through the tunnel and sub group 7 was an immediate right on the other side!

    What time of year did you go? I'm thinking of going in late April 2024.

    Did you go there on a day trip or you stayed the night there? The round trip alone would have been 9 hours, but it's annoying to bring a large luggage around when we only stay for 1 night😂

      We only live 2 hours from Hirosaki so we just made it a 1-day trip. If you're from farther away I would definitely stay the night!

    Did they have a parade- they had a parade in 1981 and I ate bbq squid on a stick lol

    • @mattanddags
      @mattanddags  3 роки тому

      No, this year there was no parade. Hopefully next year there will be one!

      Game changer. I was there in 1974, I don't remember a parade, but I ate a bbq octopus tentacle on a stick.

      The timing of cherry blossoms depends on the year but this video was filmed on April, 24. Usually, they are in Aomori towards the end of April.
