  • Execution scores were so different in 2008! It is definitely much stricter now. P.S The angle is pretty bad for judging so take the deductions as an estimation

    Woooooah! This is so heavily deducted in the current COP! 😮😮 I mean that quad was notorious for being overscored too, though!

      That quad was not overscored. They CoP was just VERY lenient compared to today.

    Everytime she was going for a pirouette, she had a bit of bent knees too. Thank you for this series and this video, awesome to see how judging evolves with time, I was surprised she went for 2 skills at the beginning and no deduction was pointed out lol

      I agree. The bent knees, leg separations & flexed feet on her forward giants into her Healy & Onos are pretty glaring. The more difficulty she added to that routine during that quad the worse her form became. However, there still isn’t anything quite as beautiful as a hit Nastia handstand. Her height, lines, body alignment & shoulder flexion are to die for.

      Hips must be above bar prior to catching. -0,1 if it's at bar height, -0,3 below bar height.

      Nastia said she thanked and gave so much credit to her father for her success, because eventhough she was the one performing, her dad was the mastermind who figured out how to construct the routines and pace her perfectly for succeeding at the Olympics

    • @Zuranthium
      @Zuranthium 3 роки тому +5

      Not really, there's many ways her Bars and Beam routines could have been better constructed. If he had truly gamed the system fully, then it would have been impossible for her to ever lose on those events at the time, unless she fell. She was fortunate to have the ability to do all those pirouettes that got highly valued, Valeri was at least smart to push in that direction (although, I think he basically just copied the idea from the Chinese). To this day though, I don't think anyone has ever completely optimized all their routines for the code(s). There's still ways to gain advantages.

    • @albertitomoon5002
      @albertitomoon5002 3 роки тому +1

      @@Zuranthium yeah maybe, but also you have to take into account injuries, Nastia could've pulled off a triple or even a 3.5 twists, but that would've been too hard on her ankles. You're right there are always parts in a routine that you can add this or that but sometimes it's just not worth the risk or they would be heavily deducted

    • @Zuranthium
      @Zuranthium 3 роки тому +4

      @@albertitomoon5002 Floor is different, I do think they made the best routine for her there (and highly doubt she could have rotated a 3.5 twist at that point, certainly not with a good landing; that move is not worth it in the code anyway), but on Bars/Beam there were a bunch of smarter connections and possible elements to include.

    The scoring system is so dumb with .5 off for doing a low 1/2 turn after a GREAT held handstand. Held handstands aren't given any credit at all and that's wrong. Especially when it's not even a grip error on the 1/2 turn, leading to an unnecessary extra giant swing; the turn is there to initiate the shoot to high bar - and that skill is also now worthless in the code! The system just wants people to rush through to the turn, and it's a nonsensical rule how kip handstands with 1/2 turn are judged with far less leeway than regular kip handstands. You're doing something that's harder and is receiving NO credit in the routine to begin with, so why punish it more harshly?? Let's also compare how wrong this is: doing Maloney + Toe 1/2 gives you a D + C element and .2 bonus, whereas doing a 1/2 turn after the handstand, and then a pike-stalder shoot to high bar, and then another kip handstand, gives you credit for nothing and more ways to get deducted!! It's just crazy, the system doesn't accurately reflect reality.
    About other deductions in this routine - I just have .1 off for the Pak angle instead of .3, but then .1 off for bent arms on her kip that you didn't take (so still a net of +.1 more favorable). On her dismount I don't mind the form so much, she keeps her legs mostly parallel and I think it's interesting how she starts with legs glued together, then puts them more apart, then brings them a bit closer together, and then separates them more again before quickly snapping them closer together and doing a half turn. It creates a unique look in the air and has a specific, meaningful flow to it. Something else the system doesn't differentiate is how she shows total control at the very end of the dismount. Yes she has a small step, but she's taking that step in order to put her feet completely together and hold a fully extended salute. If she didn't take that little step and instead saluted in a worse looking position that's barely held, the system would currently give her more credit, which I find to be incorrect. Overall I think her dismount here just deserves .2 or .3 deduction total (.1 for step and either .1 or .2 for form), rather than the .5 that was accrued.

    • @eimardgomes1128
      @eimardgomes1128 3 роки тому +6

      Omg. Only a Nastia fan would defend her dismount like that. lol
      It has legs apart so it should indeed be deducted!

    • @Zuranthium
      @Zuranthium 3 роки тому +1

      @@eimardgomes1128 I don't think leg separation with her overall form deserves such a big deduction on this kind of salto, it has nothing to do with being a fan of someone. To me a .3 leg separation deduction on a tuck should be when the legs are flying at completely different angles, whereas hers are mostly parallel.
      If everyone did every move the exact same way, it would be too boring. There needs to be some room in the rules for variation. I hate how the rules don't allow people to do the "scissor" variation on a layout for example. That move is part of what made Katelyn Ohashi go viral and it's very difficult. Why should we ban or punish it?
      Also for example, how many people do you think can do a Produnova vault without "cowboying" the form? It's just not realistic to expect perfectly glued together legs there for everyone, and why should "cowboy" position be seen as such a bad fault anyway (unless the form is truly hideous)? To me it's much worse when someone tries to do a tuck where they have legs going separate directions, because it kills the line of the move, whereas with cowboy position it still creates a composed form and picture. Even having a small gap in the legs + a small separated angle in terms of being parallel is worse than "cowboying" to me (which is considered a "big leg separation"), because again the former case creates a worse line.

      @@Zuranthium if bigger than shoulders lenght than it's -0.3. Her dismount is nasty (pun intended)

    • @Zuranthium
      @Zuranthium 3 роки тому +1

      @@eimardgomes1128 Yes I know the rule, and I think it's wrong. It's flawed how the rule doesn't differentiate between "shoulder length" separation and extreme cowboying position that looks worse. I also find it wrong that the rules don't account for overall body shape better (particularly legs being parallel or not in this case).
      Aside from that, she does not have "bigger than shoulder length" separation for the whole dismount. The rules are also flawed in that every deduction is either .1 or .3 or .5, with no spacing inbetween. Many of the deductions are way too high and also too questionable; judges have to constantly decide between close cases in deductions, and there shouldn't be an entire .2 differential in the score just based on a single borderline decision about someone's angle or form. When many of those decisions fall the wrong way for an athlete, then it creates a further imbalance in the results, when comparing the concrete numbers vs a more holistic assessment.
