The Machine Bride of PIN•BOT was my favorite of Anghelo's creations. What a legend he was!
A dirty Fluke means a hard working man uses it people come on now..if seeing a dirty multimeter is too squeamish for ya then just turn your head away..you have a choice to watch it or not watch it 🙄
Come on people, it's gonna be alright
Viewer: "You shoudl clean your Fluke Meter!"
Ron: "What do you think Joe?"
Joe: "It's not broke!"
Now you're getting it :)
Awesome, keep doing what you're doing Ron. Keeping the ancient art of pinball wizardry alive.
We're trying to keep 'em up and running :)
Ron... your diagnostic skills are so over the top incredible! I am speechless after watching this video. Most all of us would have given up with the modern complexity.
The main things are to just take it slow and think about it before you do anything, and try to eliminate all the impossible answers like Sherlock Holmes talked about :) "When you eliminate all that is impossible, then whatever remains, however improbable, must be the truth". So if all the info is messed up and we know it's not the display itself, and the ribbon cables are also running the sound board which still works fine... it's something catastrophic, and on a video game bad ram will cause all kinds of trash on the display, it kind of had to be the Ram everything else was eliminated...
Come on Bluto Come on now..ya know shit gets real when Popeye has that Spinach 😆
Yup, when popeye finds that spinach, the shit done hit the fan!
Did you ever ask him about that ground wire? LoL
I'm embarrassed to say I was telling my dog that you were taking a shot in the dark with that RAM chip... I was wrong, you're brilliant! Fun game, I hadn't seen it before.
Your dog knows what's up :) It kind of was a shot in the dark but more like an educated guess, haha I asked him about the ground wire but he feigned ignorance :)
I never saw this pinball out in the wilds when i used to go to arcades in Australia in the 90's (May they rest in peace). Looks like a fun one with quiet a few skill shots.
I don't believe it really sold that many, I don't remember ever seeing it out and about either.
That's a cool one,I played that in the arcade. If I remember correctly it was released after the Popeye movie with Robin Williams.....not that it was done "for" the movie but that the movie made Popeye relevant at the time was the idea
Ron, were they calling to warn you that your pinball machine warranty has expired? 😜.
Good job as usual!
What ?? A Luigi wall??? Lolol!! Love it!!! Too cute! And yes crazy about Popeye!!
We've got a Luigi and a Mario wall :) Popeye is fantastic.
@@LyonsArcade Ronnie! please show the Mario wall next time. Such creative stuff crack me up. so cute! and yes we are THAT crazy too about videogames and everything you show us. Thanx buddy. you guys are the best (all 3 of you). greetings from Amsterdam (The Netherlands)
Detective Ron does it again! Nice job. I'm really liking that DMD, great colors and cool animations.
Yeah you know i'm not into mods much but this is definitely a great improvement. Very cool little piece of work there
You have defeated the evil repair attempts of the owner...
Consider that a superpower!
Damn! Great job. VERY satisfying seeing the DMD light up correct after all that. Nice looking table to boot and I'm sure the owner will be very happy.
Yeah it's always a nail biter when a $500 part doesn't work.... makes you cringe a little bit when you turn it on :)
Great job as always Ron; you found a needle in a haystack! It's amazing how much audio adds to a SS machine, and how the relays, solenoids, and chimes is even better in some way in old EM.
That left ramp each time the ball passes an animal you have to use the left flipper button to kick the ball and save an animal. Each animal you save a light lights up next to it.
Ron vs Joe two player competition!!!! Needed!
That thing is amazing! Never seen a display quite that good - that way. In fact I have to watch this twice and see what I can get out of it because this is right on the level that I'm solid with electronics but this is very new to me, it's perfect!
27:37 Diggin' the deer laying back, smokin' his pipe, and lookin' at the centerfold of his naughty magazine! Cute!
He was so creative!
Not sure why they didn't just use long screws instead of gluing a block of wood in for the speaker in the base. Weird choice.
Great seeing you work your magic on this machine. It is newer than the usual ones we see, but still a great Python themed machine
yeah there was really nothing holding that in, very weird way to do it.... I think maybe he had something in the bed of his truck under the pinball and the sheer weight of the machine busted it through the bottom. I don't know how many of these you've moved but these widebodies like this are about the heaviest damn things ever built, I wouldn't be surprised if it's over 300 pounds. The Gottlieb ones seem even heavier, and I've heard the Jersey Jack ones are like Morbidly Obese or something.
"Brutus" was the other arch-enemy character in the Popeye series!
That is a great machine with lots of neat mechanics. I have never seen one like it.
Great troubleshooting find !!
Great video. Never got to play that game yet. Bluto is sometimes called Brutus.
Copied from another page..
After the theatrical Popeye cartoon series ceased production in 1957, Bluto's name was changed to Brutus because it was incorrectly believed that Paramount Pictures, distributors of the Fleischer Studios cartoons, owned the rights to the name “Bluto”.
Oh yeah, Popeye! And a DMD pinball. =O I'll be watching intensely. You go Ron! =)
This is 1994 hardware, Youssi did the spectacular art. Youssi and the allmighty Chris Granner did the sound/music
on the 'White Water' pinball which is my favourite and that I owned once upon a time. Had to sell it due to economics
and I regret it to this day. The playfield was in mint condition. =(
The first half of the 1990's had the best pinballs IMO.
I had to be a Popeye fan. There were only three channels so we had to like what we got.
hahaha you were forced into it :)
Pinball shenanigans has some videos of a guy doing a high end shop out of one of these machines
It's well worth a high end shop out, great game!
Gold plating has to be on both sides of the connection. Both the pins and the sockets other wise you're losing all of the benefits of the gold. You also start to run into dissimilar metals problems. Most IDC connectors like the ones you have are tin plated because it's cheaper. Are the pin headers on your PCB's gold or silver colored.
This pin is from 1994, I like it... Quite underrated.
Very fun game, Python Anghelo strikes again!
This is really one of my favourite machine's
It's just crazy and quirky enough and I think the Popeye license is very respectable in my opinion... he did a good job of it!
" fix the whole thing one handed" lol
I love this repair! thanks for your videos. I've got ahold of a mr. do's wild ride board and I'm going to see if I can get it to live again ( i've been told it has a cpu communication issue- So It's likely one of the 74LS Logic chips) But i'm not ruling anything out until I can prove that it is or isn't ok.
You'll probably figure it out, those boards aren't too crazy....
@@LyonsArcade i appreciate it. I have learned a bit from your channel. As always, it's fun to watch you fix stuff and make them no longer "broke" ;)
thanks Joe loving these videos
Glad you enjoyed it, thanks for watching!
Ron must have ate his spinach while fixing this one! Well done!
Great video again ron
never seen that one at all it new to me i would love see more about it
Now that is a cool machine!
It's got a lot going on :)
Nice diag with the ram chip Ron. Seems to be a recurrent issue in a lot of your repairs. I think it's like you said, these things are running flat out. Ram and cpu get burnt up in arcade tech. But for 30/40+ years, that aint bad going tbf.
Yeah that's kind of how I see it too, I mean it worked for a LONG time, that's not a design flaw that's well past the end of life, and then I swapped another one in and it kept on ticking. Very impressive in my opinion!
Nice job ron!
Thank you Darkshijima!
Great work Ronnie. Did you get that coil sorted out where the sleeve came out of the coil? …. I bet you did.
Such a hard game to find how cool.
I've also seen those IDC cables get damaged by strong or repeated tugs on the wires. Especially if the strain relief clip hasn't been installed.
Really interesting watching this, I've been watching this since my dad is playing guitar and I was obsessed with Pinball instead of watching "The Repair Shop" on BBC. It's nice and god rest Python's soul. He reminds me of Paul Sample who worked on "Ogri and Kickstart". A Comic in the UK.
Artistic guys who left us too soon!
Ogri was brilliant!!!
The repair shop is awesome!
Hey Ron! A little popeye trivia, what's 20 20 20? Olive Oils measurements. Popeye spinach I haven't seen it out on the left coast.
I dunno man I think she's more like 19 18 18 lol
OMG I WANT ONE! This and Rocky and Bullwinkle
Let me enlighten you to another one : There is a Bugs Bunny machine, i repeat, there IS a Bugs Bunny machine
@@LyonsArcade Man O man I am needing that...Bullwinkle 1 Popeye 2 That Bugs and Robo wars
@@Pitbull0669 there is a Looney tunes pin now as well! it was made by a place called spooky pinball! there is a Scooby Doo pin as well!
i had the same pinball machine in the past ,also replaced the display
I spy with my little eye something beginning with sidewinder FF2 🤓👍😎
2:16 You might be quite close to the pronunciation of my name with "you-ssi"... John is considered a valid translation of it... I wonder if he might have been of Finnish descent, but then, biographical info appears scarce.
Even a stopped clock is right twice a day :)
I've never seen this one before but it looks like it would be worth dropping a few quarters in.
Bluto's name was changed to Brutus because it was incorrectly believed by King Features that Paramount Pictures, distributors of the Fleischer Studios (later Famous Studios) cartoons, owned the rights to the name "Bluto".
“I’ll gladly pay you Tuesday for a hamburger today.”
I hope no one was hurt. Most likely your vehicle’s extended warranty was about to expire.
Someone just called me and said "Can I speak to the owner?" So I hung up. I'm not sure what that was about but probably printer toner or something....
I'm strongest to finish, cause I eat my spinach. I'm Popeye the Sailor man.Good luck with it.
Bluto was also called Brutus.
Great job! One question though, that spinny thing is so extra loud?! Does it need lubricating or is that "as designed"?
I used to own one of these machines, that spinner is loud and grindy. Sounds a lot louder in the video because the glass was off much of the time, but even with it on… yeah, it’s by far the loudest part of the machine.
@@bovilexic Thanks! :)
The noise reminded me of a time I tried to repair a pull start lawnmower without lubrication (it didn't end well, lol. Short story it destroyed itself, after a few tries using the ripcord starting mechanism. Now I'm always super keen with the WD40 hehe).
The WAG method pays off again.
Seems that Popeye is not that tough of a palooka to work on ;)
He's strong to the finish!
Yodelayheehoo
Yodelay Hee Hoo
Cannot see the dmd when you it looks fantastic. Lol
Never mind damn UA-cam zoomed.
It's one of the best looking color wise of the color dmd releases I think! Thanks for watching Purdue98!
And of course it has the WPC ASIC. Has anyone come up with a suitable replacement for that ASIC?
I've done very little WPC stuff so I'm not up to date on that
Plus he probably didn't unplug the game when he was working on it lol
I don't usually unplug it either but he did alright, he was a good dude
@@LyonsArcade Well you don't unplug in I don't unplug because you've been through this forever lol OL most people have not and when they think they should fix something instead of unplugging the game they usually end up shorting something out or with people messing with flybacks get electrocuted L o l
Ar Gah Gah Gah Gah Gah ⛵
I thought it was "Huck uck yuck uck oylll"
@@LyonsArcade Probably is lol 😆 I can't do Popeyes voice either 😅
Never played this one except on virtual
That almost counts :)
Only thing I'd comment on is purely mechanical..is that motor supposed to be *that* loud?? Might want to check/lube it up a little.
Guarantee that if you clean the Fluke meter, it will fall out of calibration.
My fluke for aircraft mx looks same.
Maybe the RAM being bad is why he installed a new display.
I'm not sure if he had the display working or not
So I thought, "Ah ha!"
My Fluke won't work unless it's dirty.
You know it Brucifer!
What's with that horrible whirring noise when a game is on. It's so loud. Is that normal?
There is a motor on the right spinning that turntable around, that makes noise. You don't hear it as much when the glass is on
What took Joe 2 balls to see if the game works would have taken Ron 2 games
IT'S BROKE
Brutus is the other one
I always get them confused
If you ever have a chance to go back and watch the better Popeye cartoons from the 1930s and 1940s, that stuff holds up today!
It's one of the better series of animated shorts ANYONE has made, especially during Popeye's golden age in the 1930s and early 1940s.
The Disney stuff, unless it's Goofy and Donald Duck, isn't that good.
The Looney Tunes were at their best in the 1940s but Popeye had the best series in the 1930s.
Good news, too -- this isn't kids stuff and Popeye doesn't get old quick like most of the stuff made in the last 20 years has!
I actually have a box set of all those episodes but I haven't watched it! I need to break it out and check them out, I remember as a kid watching the old black and white ones and thinking they were so cool but that was a long time ago!
I think a lot of people still don't realize cartoons originally weren't for kids, that video for "The Old Man Up The Mountain" with Betty Boop opened my eyes to that....
@@LyonsArcade Oh, yeah!
Betty Boop wasn't for kids! LOL
The Popeye cartoons are a better series than the Boopster, though.
I have the Popeye DVD sets Warner Bros released in the 2000s as well as all the Blu rays (3 so far) they did of the color Popeye shorts in the 1940s.
They've all held up but the B&W shorts done in the 1930s really are the best. There were things I saw as a kid in the late 1970s/early 1980s that I finally saw again because 75% of this stuff will NEVER air on Cartoon Network because it's not new material. Has nothing to do with political correctness and ALL to do with those programming executives getting royalties for new programming!
Popeye really is better than at least 85% of the animated series made in the last 50 years, easily! (The 1960s Popeye TV series DOES suck, though! Hahahaha. Stick with the Fleischer animated shorts!)
I remember also playing that Popeye videogame in the 1980s. Damn, that was a hard game to play!
Bluto and Brutus...
DMD?
Dungeon Man Dragons?...
Oh Dot matrix Display
Cool
Man, that wheel sure is loud. I'm not sure the coolness of it is worth the RRRRRRRRRRRRR every time you shoot a ball. Sounds like it is grinding you some coffee.
You think so?
Say No To Drugs
That is so late 80s
cmom people stop bugging busy man qbout his voltage meters if you dont like it tham go buy him new one with your money not his money
or be silent or ignore it because his voltage meter show ages in it
mine just get used so many time it died quite working i get new one every few years i wish it be reliable just like he been using it
i'd gladly pay you Tuesday for a hamburger today Wimpy lol
Those sumbitches are still around trying that, Wimpy was the first crackhead! People come in my shop "Hey man, I've got this really nice set of Floor Mats for a 2002 Honda Accord, they're almost brand new, you think you could loan me $8 and then I'll come back and buy them from you for $12 Friday?"
I saw a guy buy a vcr outside of a bar he opened the box and it was filled with wet newspapers and also grab that guy from the back of his neck drag him outside and say look at that sign does it say Joe's videogames and pawn shop lol
Looks like a corrupt ROM file
Guess who didn't watch the video.
Bluto was also known as Brutis
I believe there was an obscure lawsuit about that!
