It’s another sunny summer evening in the fields of the South Pennines and the sheep pastures are full of tall thistles.
A flock of Goldfinches have arrived and are slowly demolishing the seed-heads of all the thistles.
It is marvellous to see them land on these tall plants and hang on as the plants sway in the breeze.
You can often spot the finches upside down as they pick off all the seeds.
We are well used to seeing Goldfinches on bird feeders all the time, but it’s great to see them doing their thing out in the wild.
I do think it will be tricky of ask all of our neighbours to replace their lovely lawns with a patch of tall thistles though.
