Thank you for using factual information and keeping it real. I see alot of UA-cam channels still saying that they budget $100 a month which is malarkey! You cannot feed your family a portion of food that will not sustain them. Especially a growing child. You did not fail us, Christine. Our economy is failing all of us.
Maybe if they garden and barter?
@@pinkelefant4ever exactly, unless you grow a good bit of your fruit and veg and raise chickens, I can't see how you get away with only $100 a month for a family of 4. 🤷🏻♀️
I love that you did these ... Even as a "complete fail" because some of us are trying so hard to keep the grocery budget low and feeling like a complete fail ... But it's giving me a lot of grace to see that no one can shop with old prices. Thank you for all the hints and tips along the way! They have been so helpful!!
You've got this!
Yes!
It’s great to be frugal but I think to be healthy is more important! My family doesn’t eat processed foods and we eat organic! Talk about expensive! We cut back in dinner or entertainment out but never on food!
@@alexiss680 some aren't so fortunate to get to choose not to cut back on their food budget.
I decided to go into Target this past Sunday on a whim and managed to get two packs of chicken breast marked down to almost $6. Each pack had almost 7lbs in it so I cooked and seasoned all of it as soon as I got home. And then Kroger had the 20oz pack of egg noodles marked down to $0.40! I actually managed to get under budget this week and have a bit left over for next week!
$48 is still great for a family of 4! Especially today! Thanks for the ideas and thanks for sharing!
I learned how to shop by being a cashier at a grocery store, I learned about all of the deals offered, I saw patterns and picked up on what was a good habit vs what was a bad habit and how to read a coupon & familiarize myself with a stores coupon policy. I dont think anyone doubles anymore 😒 AND while stocking shelves I learned how to compare the price per unit AND that some brands will use a smaller or larger unit of measurement to make their product seem more affordable 😒 sneaky sneaky! You gotta have your guard up when youre shopping! I think everyone should work at least part time at a grocery store for ONE year, you learn so much!
Also, then people would be less 💩-ey about how they treat cashiers and I'd get in less fights in line standing up for them 🤣🤷♀️
Good cashiers make my day. Sometimes a cashier is a person's whole social life.
@@lindamusser7370 in really any customer facing position you have to consider that you may be the only person that this customer will speak to that day. I learned that at the grocery store too, but it really sunk in when I moved from grocery stores to hotels. We'd get these long term stays that would start to hang out by the desk as they got to know us. That's a job you really need to be compassionate for, sometimes they were there for business but we also had folks who had lost their homes in a fire or weather related disasters or were traveling for a funeral. My employees would get easily annoyed or creeped out by it and in some cases it was justified--ohh the stories I have!!😅 But usually? It was someone who was missing someone they loved 😔
@@laurab.fierce3523 so true. Bless you
Alot of states that's illegal... there are laws that state by pound oz or each etc... your store or Corp did that...not the company... it was actually my job to change prices on the shelf and in the computers...and if we didn't catch mistakes we were fined by the oz by the govt weights and measures dept ! I never knew that was a thing...till I got that extra Job at my grocery store( but hey...it was more money in my whole check...not just those hours on the scan dept! Cuz I could andnwould fix things on the spot while working!)
Yesss same! I was a cashier for 6 yrs before I switched to grocery stock, and I’ve loved teaching myself how to stack deals and get the best bang for my buck. I used to love suggesting to people how they could save more (ex: a pack of roast was on a BOGO sale and the customer didn’t even know!). It’s like a game for me 😭
As my fiancée and I continue to gather unsolicited marriage advice I'm going to tell all older couples who give us budgeting and household "advice" to watch these videos. The grocery budget amount they brag about as newlyweds is not feasible in today's world.
Back when bread was 40 cents per loaf, and chicken was 50 cents a pound.
Oh yes I total agree learnt so much from these videos
I LOVE and have learned so so much from FFM but I agree... We're a family of 5 and the lowest I could go BEAR MINIMUM is $50 a week and that's tough.
Listen to old people. Take the wheat and throw away the chaff.
@@The47thBasement and wages were a lot less
I remember back in 2007-2009 my monthly grocery budget was $150 that included diapers, wipes, toilet paper and paper towels as well as laundry soap and cleaning supplies for a family of 4 with 2 children/toddlers. Now we spend closer to $1,000 a month, not including vet diet for dog and cats. For a family of 5.
I love that you’ve brought up WIC! I’ve been thinking for awhile I would love a video with meal planning based around WIC items. I know specific items vary, so it wouldn’t be exact for everyone everywhere. Much of our meals incorporate WIC foods, but I would love to hear someone else’s ideas to add more variety to my kitchen.
But everyone gets bread and milk and cheese... everyone gets beans or pb... etc it really just the amounts... everyone gets cereal...but what kinds vary by state... military nearly half qualify for wives, and you learn what's the same and what's not...
Cucumber Salad. Sliced cucumbers, chopped red onions, chopped different colored bell peppers, sour cream, salt and pepper. Delicious.
Feta instead of the Sr cream is also great
Prices sure have gone up! I’ve always been a huge fan of WIC. Thank you for mentioning it. I think it’s a fantastic program. I wish it was offered past the age of 5 for children. I see so many school aged children in need, and WIC could really help them with their nutritional needs. God bless 🙏🏼❤️
even though here in Australia, where food is SO much more expensive than in America, videos like this are so helpful for me. I’m really trying to reduce how much I spend on food because I’m struggling so hard to pay for medical expenses right now
Yes Aussie food is OUCH
I'm a kiwi and feel it also. I got a few canned items, snacks, and five dollars of meat this fortnight two hundred and fifty bucks. I don't no know how family's are able to eat.
Yeah I’m Australian too and right now the struggle is real. I’m just trying to freeze any discounted food I find and I’ve basically just been trying to think of food as fuel and trying to get fats carbs and protein.
Aussie here too, a couple of my kids are vegetarian and I used to be one so 90% of the meals I cook are vegetarian and honestly every time I buy meat I wonder how meat eaters do it. Any meal with meat as the “star” instead of just an ingredient (like steak and veggies vs a bit of bacon in a salad) would double my meal costs. It’s crazy. 😬
Literally, I'm out here spending $50 a week PER PERSON it hurts me in my soul (for context, 3 adults, so that automatically drives up the price vs kids) 😂
“A new hope” they way you emphasized that made me laugh! Love it ! Thanks for all the tips Christine
4 teens 2 Adults...gets pricey. I've learned to buy no name brands ,put them into brand name (kept) boxes n such. They don't see what goes into cooking they "MENTALLY" believe it's the best. This was taught to me from my grandmother. A mother of 12 and MANY grandchildren...❤️
Why go through the trouble, just add MSG, it's a flavor enhancer.
we add to our store pizzas, left over meats, tomato and spring onions, the one mushroom left, the quarter of a capsum etc.
you can beef up basic pizza for next to nothing really.
I do this too! Then cover the whole thing with some shredded mozzarella
Me too!
Got some chopped salads this week for .99/bag, clearance oj and guacamole at my Smith's. I did a big grocery shop and saved over $100 with deals, coupons and clearance deals. 😁
I think it would be cool to see some budget meals done with super basic cooking tools! (Only 1 knife, cutting board, frying pan and pot plus some basic utensils) Especially now that it’s back to school for college students etc
Yes. I get a lot out of FFM budget cooking videos.
She does have some videos for college students on her play list, you could go back through her play list and find them. They are interesting, she did a really good job on those.
I've heard a rice cooker is a life saver... you can cook an entire meal in there...good luck 😘
Well I am very impressed with your ability to feed your family of six as healthy as you do while working within your budget. We raised a family of four and as they started growing (especially our three 6’4 and 6’7 sons )it just got overwhelming trying to keep enough food in our pantry. UA-cam wasn’t around in those days, but sure wish it had been. But even as an empty nester am learning a lot from you. Thank you so much. 😊
Woo hoo part 4 !! Agree that trying to recreate meals from 10 years ago is not possible for the same price. Like you mentioned in a previous videos, sometimes it's best to shop the sales and reverse menu plan, and stock up on pantry items when there are great deals for your area.
Canadian prices keep creeping up. Some weeks it's cheaper to purchase a good olive oil over a pound of butter, never thought that could happen. Definitely purchasing the sales, regular prices are seriously out of whack. Sadly the revenue that Canadian grocery stores are earning are at an all time high, while most consumers need to scale back. I'm also finding completely strangers sharing saving tips at the grocery store!
This may help someone - there are apps i.e. Flashfood which tells you when a participating store is offering heavily discounted fresh produce, meat and shelf staple items before it expires (dates are also provided) and pictures. You select the item(s) or a box of produce you want, purchase online and go pick up at that particular store. I haven't tried it yet, most reviews in my area have been good, and if when you pick up you choose not to take it you're refunded. I've seen meet at 50% off, box of vegetables for $5.00, head of cauliflower for .88 etc.
Gonna have to try the DR rice and beans recipe just seems to have so much flavor and easy enough to scale the recipe down for a smaller family too.
As always Christine thanks for sharing your tips/tricks and recipes. Have a great weekend!
The Flash food thing sounds amazing! Is that only Canada? Good luck northern neighbor, we adore you😗
Flashfoods is amazing and helps me keep the grocery budget low! I've been able to stock a full freezer full of meat , all on a budget. It's also great for those produce boxes, for $10-15 I can get 3 boxes full of fruits and veggies, discount breads and rolls etc. If you are not happy with the quality when you go to pick up your items, you can email flashfoods and they will refund you too.
@@firequeen2194 I believe Flashfoods 1st started in the USA.
I would love to see your chicken enchiladas recipe.😁
Please continue this series for more than a month! Just keep going like if it was the second week for a family of four. I'm a student and living on my own, and these budget/cooking/mealplan videoes help me out a lot. Especially this series have been so inspiring :)
I think it was great to see you try and fail. When the series started I thought “oh, I’ve gotta see this” cuz what am I doing wrong?! It’s incredible how prices have skyrocketed
FFM's 'tiny sprinkle of cayenne pepper' . . . FIRE!
So funny to see the flashback of your kitchen 'before', what a difference!!!
So excited for this one! These have been so fun to watch even if you are spending more than $25/week. I love clearance shopping and shopping the sales to help lower my grocery bill.
WIC gives food for nursing mothers too . You mentioned formula but just wanted to mention that they will give extra food for nursing moms, you don't have to accept formula from them.
I was a nursing mother as well, but she Never indicated WIC was only for moms who formula feed their babies. She just provided the information for WIC assistance to moms of children under 5. Let's not complicate it.
@@truthseeker6370 Wasn't trying to complicate it. Just trying to give more info and didn't mean it as a criticism of Christine.
Several of our area stores double the amount of produce with SNAP benefits, according to their ads.
Awesome!
I was on WIC for my pregnancies. It really helped me so so much. And after they were born, and saw how expensive formula was and how much babies used, I was even more grateful for it.
I was unable to breast feed my babies do to being on medication. Those little buggers, ate 2 containers of formula s week. And when each container is 40.00, that's a ton of money. I like that when babies start to eat more food and drink less formula, WIC will start giving things like milk, cereal , juice and stuff so nice.
I hope you do more of these $50 a week, budget hauls, and I especially like the cooking segments and knowing your meal plan.
They give me some great guidance and ideas. TY for all you do, blessings from Ontario 🇨🇦
I love your videos. I used to work for WIC and wondered why more women weren’t on it. Great program. Thank you for mentioning it.
My son and I still do our $50 a week groceries. The only difference is we include household and personal items as well. We both have really good jobs and several Walmarts and Aldi, so we are not forced to stick to a grocery budget. This is more about lessons about finances. We stick to it 90% of the time, but we do go out to eat twice a month. Love your channel for meal ideas.
Chicken enchiladas sound like a great option for busy nights and can easily add in veggies inside to really completely the meal!
I miss WIC so much! I had it with my oldest and I wish I had my current grocery skills with that food!
Thank you for always promoting Wic! I run a wic clinic in Indianapolis and it is definitely a huge help! Children get $24 and moms get $43 for fresh frozen or canned fruits and vegetables right now in addition to the other foods that you mentioned. Also, many states have a farmers market program in the summer where they can get additional money. Indiana gives $30 per summer per participant♥️♥️
We had all nine of our kids on WIC..I miss it..Cottage corner WIC office... Indianapolis
@@melissavazquez2953 That’s awesome! That is one of my clinics
We don't have WIC in Canada or food stamps or any government food programs. We have the food bank/pantry but in our new city we have something very cool called We Can food baskets. You order a produce and/ or meat basket in the first week of the month , and then the use that buying power to buy huge bulk orders and then you pick up your basket in the 3rd week of the month when money/groceries starts running low. Genius!
One of my biggest challenges in finding good deals is that I live in a more urban area and I almost never see clearance items at my grocery stores. When I asked about it I was told they rarely have them because food doesn't sit and sells pretty quickly, so less need for clearance. Plus I live in one of the highest grocery price areas of the country. Makes it very challenging
Your videos make my day. Your positive spirit and warm smile always lift me up. Thank you for all the practical tips! I now hear your voice in my head while grocery shopping. Lol! It’s like having a friend along. Bless you and your family!
I clicked so fast love these videos always trying to stretch the Budget and try something new
I can't get over how young Hailey looks in the background of the beans and rice video!
I remember when my husband and I were first married, way back 40 years ago, we shopped at Gemco in CA. We ate really well and only spent $50.00 a week on food AND gas. Those were the days. It is really getting challenging to eat well and healthfully on a tight budget.
Yes! We just celebrated our 38th anniversary yesterday. Our newlywed food budget was $50/week in an expensive area of NY.
Christine! You are SO right! The struggle is real. We are doing fine in the finance department mainly because I am a super vigilant grocery shopper. I cannot imagine if I did not budget and shop sales. It is really challenging. If people have the attitude of "I am only going to one place", they best hit Walmart. I do sales at Publix (their Bogos are fab), Aldi twice a monthly, Dollar General(on Saturdays for the extra $5 off) & Wal-Mart pick up about twice a month. And the BIG SECRET: STAY ON THAT LIST!!!
I say all poor people food has increased beans rice spam eggs hot dogs Mac cheese all gone up ..
Christine, you are doing such a service to families who need this information. The pubic schools entirely fail our children when it comes to life skills, and unfortunately a lot of us as parents/adults also don't have the skills to impart, even if we would like to.
Why are ife skills the schools responsibility? Parents should be teaching them to their kids.
Life
@@esther61374 As I said, many parents don't have the skills either. And our society is set up such that most families have the financial necessity for both parents to work, if there are two parents present, and kids get most of their input from the school system. Not saying its the right or good thing, but it's how a good portion of American families operate.
@@esther61374 If you grew up when schools still had home ec and driver's ed, you don't really get to talk since schools got rid of those classes in the late 90s/early 2000s and won't even consider bringing them back because they don't contribute to test scores and getting money for the school through standardized testing.
I never took home economics. People thinking the government indoctrination camps, aka, schools, are going to help them is the problem. Common sense is out the window. Spend less, cook from scratch, talk to your elders for advice.
I love these videos and getting an inside look on how to make low cost meals.
Yesterday I got some amazing deals for Canada! Canned beans for .97, standard bag of frozen veggies for 1.97!! Haven't seen these prices since 2016. Obviously I stocked up as much as I could!
How many grams/ kgs was the frozen veggies? Our 2kg back has gone up form $4 to $5.29.
@@breezybre2670 ours too. And lettuce is regularily 5 or 6 bucks a head?! Who can afford anything? Good job Kniddelliz, on the beans and veggies!!
This series was so helpful. Thank you so much for doing this!
I have just loved the series of videos so much!
I sure wish You Tube had been around back when I was a stay at home mom struggling to feed my family on a budget. So many awesome ideas for stretching a buck!
My family loves the vegan version I make of the Dominican Beans.
It definitely would be hard to recreate, totally understand. $25 a week now doesn't go far at all! The beans and rice looks AMAZING! 😋😋
Really enjoyed this series Christine! Thank you for all you do.
Glad you enjoyed it!
I just love you, this is such a considerate idea and so kind of you to do.🤗love it!
Your money saving videos are awesome!
I’m so thankful that I never stopped “prepping “ a little and am very well stocked. I’m literally only shopping loss leaders and super good sales. Not much discounted in my area even at Walmart. It’s lifesaving right now. Also, treating myself to Bountiful Baskets which is a great deal if you have them in your area. They are in many states. Fresh fruits and veggies for $21/box, NO subscription needed. Just order when you want. I added on a tropical fruit basket last week and got papaya, mangoes, kiwis, pineapple, a real coconut, and bananas as well as a vanilla bean. Made a huge tropical fruit salad, homemade unsweetened coconut flakes, cut the bean in half to make vanilla infused sugar/salt (great for baking), and also dehydrated a bunch of the fruit for snacks. Good luck everyone!
this has been a great series and I can't believe how much groceries have gone up in 10 years! I'm curious to know how far the pizza went and if you served anything else with it. It doesn't look like more than 6 pieces. I'm always looking for creative ways to cut the budget and can't wait to try the beans and rice recipe. Keep up the good work!!!
10 years ago...you could find hamburger helper 10 for $10 and ground beef would often be 99 a pound... you could have dinner for 2 weeks for 20 bucks on the regular and their varieties were so different you still got variety... mom had 3 kids so she would have us make 2 boxes of helper...1 pound of meat... and call it dinner with either bag salad or a frozen veggie
I found some marked down sirloin steak chunks, clearance bread rolls, and keurig coffee pods in the Walmart off brand for fair pricing today. I’m fairly proud of that. I got there early and perused the shelves while getting what I needed to get hold of. Your channel has taught me a lot about being savvy and looking for the deals when I can. Thank you!
Even though food in Denmark is MUCH more expensive (a gallon of whole milk would cost the equivalent of almost 7 USD), I really like these videos. They are a great inspiration.
Love this series! Thank you for all that you do!
I love love love this series. Thank you for doing this
Aww look at your tiny babies in the background of your throwback video!!
Video idea: go to your closets universities tuition and fees page and find the cost of a meal plan. If you have a 5-29 account they will let you deduct the cost of you meal plan from your account at grocery money. Find the monthly amount for the meal plan (mine is $422/month). Do this series but college addition. Start with nothing and build your pantry as you go. A few restrictions. Breakfast has to be easy. 99% of college kids are not frying bacon or making a casserole before class. However, you May meal prep those items. Lunch must be able to be eaten on the go with no microwave. Dinner can be a free for all excluding scratch made items. No homemade jams, jellies, breads, Pizza dough, dry beans, etc. also you must include a snack. One store only.
Bonus points if you can make it all fit on one shelf in the fridge and one shelf in a cabinet (you can use a two door cabinet).
Wow, 422/month for one student! Didn’t she just do a month for four people for around $200?
Every time I see these budget cooking for a family for $25, I keep thinking you've actually found a trick to do that and then remember you're struggling like the rest of us!!! Eggs are out of control, we only do whole milk which is over $5/gal, I mean prices are crazy!!! I keep wondering if our country will be iron deficient soon bc we keep looking for cheap alternatives to beef and it's hard to get enough iron other places! Your frugal video about growing veggies and having your own chickens was really eye-opening too bc that's always a temptation but bugs destroyed my squash, my tomatoes didn't get enough water and my cucumbers just never grew! I can't even imagine what our grocery budget would be if my girls actually ate what I make for dinner and then when our little man comes (35 wks preg now)......Lord, please allow prices to start dropping soon!!!!
I'd like to think so but with that bill Congress has just passed food prices are only going to increase because it's going to worsen inflation so buckle your belts
Awesome series!!! It’s hard to keep to a strict budget at times
I loved this series! I don’t want it to end!!
I don’t have a large family. In fact no kids, but I love watching your videos because of your energy. You give me hope.
I was at my local Walmart the night before last and got SO MUCH amazing clearance in the frozen section around 75% off. $4 family size lasagnas, 30-70 cent frozen veggies, $2 zucchini noodles, $1 side dishes. And this was fancier brands like Rao’s and Michael Angelo’s, not great value. I spent $100 and stocked up my chest freezer. I love finds like that, especially during times like this when everything is so pricey. Everyone check your Walmart!
Thank you for doing this AWESOME FAIL! 😁 I mean that in the best way! My hubby and I have a $45 a week/$180 a month budget and we are able to do it by doing the bulk of our shopping one week and then just shopping specials and sales for the rest of the month. Next month we'll be able to start $50 a week. It's amazing what the $5 extra will mean.
I’m in Australia and we call cilantro coriander, but when I’m talking to anyone here about certain things, because I watch a lot of UA-cam videos from the USA I’m then saying “oh look at my cilantro, it’s growing great” etc 😂 then I’ll get the “what do you think you are, American?) 😂 😂
Scratch cooking has been a lifesaver, and the markdowns of my local grocery. I can't believe how much prices have gone up in the last few years.
Love your work and dedication to finding healthy affordable real life options 🙌
I hope the recipe for the Dominican rice is on your recipe website! That looks interesting! Love these challenges.
Love this series! When I was trying to save money while job searching after college I did lots of the ramen packages bulked up with frozen veggies.
Thank you for being real! I want the soup and those rice and beans. My family would eat them both. It’s hard to find deals, but it can be done.
I love Cajun Red Beans and Rice but I live in El Paso, Texas. So I started doing Red Rice (spanish rice) and Beans (pinto beans) cause I always have those on hand. I add whatever veggies or meats I have. Yum.
You are AWESOME! Thank you so much for all that you do! God bless you and your family ❤️ From Colorado
When I was on WIC I liked to get oatmeal, sometimes cereal, bread, peanut butter or beans, milk, cheese, eggs, juice. Later vegetables and fruits.($6 each I would buy what was on sale and pay the diference. Like 10 for $10 get the 11th free.) I would rotate what I was getting.
Hello from Canada! Very interesting and we have an identical shopping and meal planning style. Great job!
I hope you keep this series going and build off of it! I just moved to a new city and had to start my pantry over and these videos are like the ONLY thing getting me through this transition :)
Even at $50 a week thats still better than what we usually spend. We're just two people, me and hubby, and our regular grocery haul for the week in our town usually adds up to $90; that is, trying to eat relatively healthy and incorporating fruits and veggies. Unless I have business in a bigger city, where I can make it work for $60.....love watching these tho! So much inspo and tips and ideas
I’ve been having such luck at Kroger! Aldi is always out of stock on sale items and Walmart is almost as much as every other store lately! Thanks for sharing, as always!
Great series 👏 👌 👍 🙌 I loved it
Great series! 👍
Love it 💖
❤ I have been loving this series
In the summer it is prudent to have a veggie & fruit garden. Helps with the budget! Seeds aren’t too expensive
I loove the music you pick for background! Sometimes I search it up from pieces of lyrics. Great series, I watched it all.
Some enchiladas I make that I'm starting to add to my rotation more are black bean corn and spinach. So cheap if you get dry beans but I only spent 89 cents on a can of beans, same for the corn. Depending on where you are the meal can be as cheap as $6
My husband & I were super lucky to find bone-in chicken for $.90/lb. With other sale items, coupons, & cleaning out our pantry & freezer, I've been able to stretch $35 to 3 weeks. Times have been super hard, but videos like this really help learning new tips & tricks.
You could make French bread pizzas out of those bargain rolls !
What use to be 25 then, probably is 40 or more now inflation is crazy so glad I found your channel I have a family of 6 everything you do helps us gain that knowledge of what to get to plan our meals out within budget. Thank you❤️
Great videos!! We just did our monthly restock shopping and it has doubled from last year August and this year. It absolutely crazy, I am very thankful for a garden and the ability to can things. It is just mind boggling at how expensive things have gotten!
A really well rounded grocery trip. Plenty of produce, and good use of bulk buys and clearance food.
I have heard you mention that Dave lived in the DR in a previous video. Maybe you’ve talked about this before, I’m sorry if you have already mentioned it! But what was he doing in the DR? I was a PCV there and it sounds like he might have been as well! You’ve definitely become one of my favorite UA-camrs! Thank you. ❤️
I have started shopping for bread, crackers and other baked goods at our bakery outlet store. I get 3 loaves of my choice of brand bread (whole wheat) for $.4.77 instead of $3.67 a loaf at Walmart. Also can get snack cakes and cookies for 99 cents a box (6 count) and full size boxes of crackers such as Cheez-its for $1.25. This allows us to have something familiar and our preferred brands within our budget.
Finding deals is a bit more difficult now but it can definitely still be done. Meal planning/checking out the deals at multiple stores is necessary for us at this point but, I do it. Do I make even more things homemade now? Yes. Do I bulk up meals with low cost veggies/beans/rice? Yes. I find that I can spend less than just many people as long as I plan it out well. And don't give up. If you have to stick to a certain diet or store, just plan for that diet/store. Saving any and all money we can is helpful
For dried beans, my store has bulk bins where you can get them for cheaper, or just a Mexican market where they're the cheapest anywhere
Love this video!
Good morning Frugal Fit Mom. You should see the grocery haul we picked up at WalMart yesterday. There must have been about a dozen bags or more. It's going to be quite a weekend.
Even at $50 a week is a for real savings. I just did a stock up shop it was $150! Just doing a restock of staples and some things for prek kiddo lunches trying to make it all stretch but not break the budget.
On average prices double every 15-20 years just due to normal inflation. So I would expect you to struggle with the same budget as 10 years ago. However, the increases seem to be significantly over the expected inflation of about 1.4.
They are warning grocery prices will double again by October!
It would be fun to see if you broke the budget into $25 increments how much food you could get for that amount.
Example - just how far will $25 go toward purchasing a week's worth of protein ? How many grains , carbs, pastas, bread items could you get for another $25 , and fruit and veg for $50. Then use the remaining $25 for eggs, cheese, yogurts, milk. Also it would be fun to assign $25/ kid and let them choose which category to shop for -
The kids might have to worl together combining their categories to stretch their money and make more than one meal from the ingredients they purchase. If, a kid or two wanted Mac and Cheese for a meal then the one with the dairy category and the one with the carb category might work together to purchase cheese and pasta. This would be less expensive and versatile then a box of Mac & cheese. So they would share the cost. Also helps them be creative.
Or keep out $25 for cleaning and paper items. It would be a fun project and teach alot of lessons in budgeting, communication, logic and nutrition skills
You can also stretch cream cheese by adding milk to make a looser spread 👌🏽
Love these. Wake up for me for me to try to do better
