- I traveled to Kampung Baru in Kuala Lumpur to find the best Nasi Lemak, a local dish that is a staple here in Malaysia. It was my first time trying Nasi Lemak so I asked the locals where the best was. Along the way I ate some other authentic Malaysian foods and chatted with some of the friendliest people you will ever meet.
Dude, I'm ready to fly over to Malaysia just to try that putu piring snack. This was a delicious walk about!
Hi Arnold 👋 take the 1st flight and come to Malaysia. You gonna love it here 😄
Every video of this guy should go viral - he deserves it !👍
pakcik & makcik putu piring steady (Y)
Jake, I saw your mom today! We had a great visit AND she introduced me to your channel. Hon, you haven't changed a bit! I am so happy to get to follow you on your adventures :)
Thank you for the kind words! It's good to hear from you, I hope you are doing well. I'm always happy to share a little adventure :)
“Where you staying??” 😂😂😂 iChang springs to mind 🤣
Kannnnn ...not sure Tater will sentap or not :)
There are lots of Indonesian migrants and traders there. They could not communicate well in English and came across as aloof. Malaysians are genuinely friendly and curious like that Putu Piring guy and they can converse well in English. Putu piring is difficult to get because making it is a slow steamer process.
Hi Tater…a video finally 💙 It’s been awhile! Putu in 🇲🇾 and Puto in the 🇵🇭. A bit the same, both made from rice flour. Fried banana 🇲🇾banana cue 🇵🇭 ❤️ The meal plate full of deliciousness! Really Tater you belong in Antartica 😂 You’re just having too much fun eating. The good thing is you’re not picky 💜 Take care 🙏
Bon apetit Tater! The food looks delicious. I haven’t tried any Malay food yet but i would i like too
You should! So good
Welcome to Kampung Baru, Malay village in the middle of city. Abang Halili n Kak Liza gave you warm hospitality 👍. You should visit Kampung Baru again at night, it become more alive. The Saloma bridge also very beautiful at night.
Your commentary just so hilarious buddy.. I almost cramps my smiles watching this video.. you absolutely deserve my subscription.. by the way I hope it is not too late to welcome you to Malaysia..
The way you said you wanted to lay down after that meal is very understandable.. it like the similar jim Gaffigan jokes after he eat the McDonald's.. maybe he said "all I need now is a cigarette" 😅😅😅
Jacob / Jacobo such a beautiful name tater. It's safe to say Jacob is one of the all-time classic name choices for baby boys. From the Hebrew Ya'aqov, Jacob can mean "to follow, be behind," but it can also mean "to supplant, overreach" or come from the Hebrew word for "heel." It can also mean "may God protect." All are based on the biblical story of Jacob.
Best putu piring ever !!Wow!!!!
Malaysian hospitality at its best
Very nice vlog Tater enjoyed it a lot very informative for my visit in November a fan in the UK..
Glad you enjoyed it!
Kampong Baru is the Malays heritage village in the middle of KL city centre. It turned into a food village. There are many alleys with streetfoods n restaraunts other than the main entrance gateway that u stand at the end of the video. At some corners it has a thai vibes. Generally cheap and varieties of authentic malaysian foods in KL where the locals go.
There is a Malay name for Jacob ie Yaakob 😊
Sounds good to me!
Yep because Prophet Jacob is mentioned in the Holy Quran so “Yakoub” is in Arabic. It’s commonly used in the Middle East
@@tatertravelshe is Jacob "ya aqov" is Hebrew and same person in the BIBLE and it means "may God protects"
He is ali now
Ali kwj the companion and Jacob the Prophet peace be upon them all. ❤
No wonder rm20...begedel, beef and chicken side dishes.
Thank you for this wonderful video.
Thank you for watching 🙏
@@tatertravels Thank you too. 😀
That area houses the gems of traditional malay food, plus some. Those eateries you passed by on your way to wanjo, they're all good ones: chunburi, suraya seafood, kak som... Also at 13:24 the shop on the same side of the street as wanjo where you remarked all sorts of drinks... dragonfruit..., there you should try the avocado shake 😋😋😋
really enjoy watching ur video bro. u r such a brave traveller... brave in exploring things especially the food. dont worry bro.. food here are all tasty & flavourful especially the local cuisine. u also friendly & talkative.. have fun staying in Malaysia bro.. 👍👍😁
The fried banana is good to when its still warm, chicken samosa & another one is karipap (curry puff). The couple selling putu piring is very kind & both can speak very good english...
There are many good nasi lemak. A real good nasi lemak comes with pandan coconut rice, crispy anchovies n deep fried salted peanuts, sambal thats sweet n spicy or mild spicy, a hard boiled egg, and lastly fresh cucumbers. Mixed them together and eat up. Best way to eat nasi lemak.
The beef (daging) or lamb (kambing) rendang, curry chicken or squid(sotong) can request to be served separately.😊
Can try those nasi lemak from pasar malam ( any pasar malam one of them is PJ SS2). Its great. But pasar malam if different day on different spot.
Penang char kuey tiao is a must try. Or clam char kuey tiao. Also roti canai with curry or rendang is best. Bak kut teh in klang is good too. Seafood fried rice as well. Claypot chicken rice is also reccomended.
Beef or kambing satay deep in satay sauce and ketupat. All taste good. For drinks can try teh tarik ( can request for less sugar or non sugar - kosong), milo, and asam or sam suan or mata kuching.
Enjoy😊😊😊
Okay this channel is quickly becoming a personal favorite lol
In Malaysia, we are not shy about flavour... no bland food allowed 😅
7:17 awesome pakcik👍
I’m staying by seloma bridge in Jan. and will look for lizzie + ali and try some putu piring 👌 great video!
Great interaction with the very wonderful people of Malaysia! Tater is the YouTubing Eating Machine Ambassador 👍🇺🇸🇲🇾
whenever you eat Malay food which comes with cucumber, you eat the cucumber at the end of the meal. To remove the sambal and anchovies taste from your tongue.
Its the reason why i ask first if its spicy or not and then i ask them to provide me non spicy dishes instead or atleast to lessen the amount of spice for i had a terrible experience in Indonesia and its like a torture really. The dish is good though its just that its insanely spicy to the point that i ask someone to find me and buy me milk at alfa mart to ease my discomfort 😂
Good morning Jacob... yummy yummy...making me craving for putu piring n Nasi lemak 😋😋🤗
Nice video brother. I get excited every time I see you put out a new one.
That putu piring guy is too cool….
Sometimes wanjo has local workers, sometimes non english speaking indonesians
Have nice day sir..enjoy your days in mlysia ..
Welcome and enjoy your trip brother 🇲🇾👍
Honestly ,i like your video@content bro....👍👍
Thanks ✌️I appreciate the kind words
Wow bro you eat nasi lemak like a pro get lil bit of everything in 1 spoon 👍👍
the spicy half circle looking thing is called a karipap, i recommend the ones from IKEA, they are the best
Nice you are back at city and you are so handsome/gwapo.
Hv a nice day in a Malaysia..bro Ali..👍
It is good to see a humble and open minded American.🤜🏻🤛🏻
Your name Jacob translates to Ya'akub (yak-kub) in malaysia.
welcome bro.. stay safe n stay healthy ya
Bro, kampung means village. Kampung Baru is the oldest malay village in kuala lumpur and the villages had been fighting to safe it from urbanization for a long time.
Kampung = the origin of the word Compound.
Also Ketchup comes from Malay (Kecap = sauce)
Malaysians are very kind. we are also have Putu in Indonesia. i'm a big fan of it. it could be better if you eat putu when it is still warm. unfortunately it's difficult to find putu right now because it is very traditional snack .
Sweeting is natural and i didnt notice u were sweeting till u said something
One influencer goes to wanjo, all go to wanjo and anoint it the best…nuts
Many places to be visited...
Bro i sweat even when there's AC on...
I love how spoiled you are too. 😂😂😂
Such nice people there, so friendly.
Thanks for sharing your vids bro.
Stay Safe and Enjoy.
I want try Nasi Lemak someday 😢 Nice Bro Tater 👍🏻 Hello From 🇵🇭🌅
Welcome to Malaysia! 😄
Great gastronomical indulgence Americano bro keep rollin our super dupper delectables city of Kay Ayel n hve whale of guddy2 nam2 time in Malaysia
Kampong Baru is a Malay reserved land.. it's a private land, landowners are mostly professionals and millionaires.. they literally don't live there.. Kampong Baru is planned to be redeveloped by 2040..
I wonder if theres no law in Malaysia that prohibit the used of plastics? When i was there it seems like they always used plastics instead of paper bags and other eco friendly containers. Its the same whenever i watched vlogs that feature malaysian night/day food markets
We mostly use biodegrable plastic bags.
Our government do try to restrict the use on plastic bag carrier and the ban on using plastic straw. But somehow we missed to impose the law on using plastic container for food. Probably our ministry still surveying the best solution to substitute the plastic. There are few inventions came up but so expensive which will definitely make the price of food to be higher which is not in our favour generally. As a food provider myself, I do hope Malaysia will come up with better solution soon. We can show our support by dine in to avoid using so much plastic. Locals can bring along their container to fill in when they prefer eating at home.
Tater, you should have sat in the air-conditioned dining area. I'm a a Malaysian and even I felt the heat when I was eating there at night! The air-conditioned area helped make the dining experience a little bit more bearable 😁
Yum will try wanjo for breakfast too, would you skip the fried anchovies or did u like them? 😂 What was your fav topping?
Welcome back bro
You must try RAMLY BURGER.
Fun Fact: in Malaysia we shower / bath AT LEAST twice a day....😅
Hiii , yould could bring Louis Ck ,, lol,,so funny comments ,keep it up!
Hey Tater. Most tourist would gravitate towards the more popular travel hotspots but do yourself a favor dude. Grab a ride to our administrative capital Putrajaya cos it's gonna be breath of fresh air, and I do mean it literally. And I reckon you wouldn't sweat as much. (The heat turns me off too and there's no way I would be out in the open at any noon)
I m subscribe because asyraff
This is my first time seeing Vlog brothers impromptu meet up, now that's a point of view inceptions.
Have you ate anything that your stomach doesn't agree in Malaysia thus far?
Wah so long no video😊
heyyy welcome here❤❤❤❤
No wonder why kl is metropolis city, cuz everything is hella expensive.. Evey single thing on the plate was count for the Rm20 price. The classic nasi lemak wasn't over then Rm6. You can find anywhere at road side. Can't blaim those prices are Rm20 cuz it's obvious at restaurants
$5 for that plate and smoothie sign me up
That's what I'm saying brother
@@tatertravels the lady gave you nasi lemak with sides:
1. Begedil (potato croquette)
2. Ayam masak merah (chicken in red sauce)
3. Rendang daging (beef rendang).
Nasik lemak is sedap
Abu...yasss good name.
Tater just enjoy the nasi lemak Wanjo😊 looks so delicious 😋 have nice day☘️😅
Putu is an Indian derived food... Putu Piring = Plate Putu , or saucer putu
Welcome back bro. You have a beard.
Thanks! Yes it grows in occasionally 😂
That food looked awesome. Mee goreng, nasi goreng and beef rendang are all Indonesian classics. Nice work brother.
done claimed. as if all foods are from indon. Goreng means Fry . All countries have their own types of fry dishes. so indonesian ,donot try to bluff others ok.
@@muhammadabdulwahab123 excuse me, but according to my research all those dishes originated in Indonesia, with nasi goreng showing Malaysian/Indonesian origin. I never claimed they aren’t made and enjoyed in other countries. My original point remains these are typical, “classic” Indonesian dishes. Have a great day buddy.
@@The-Real-Andonot everything is indo classic...nasi goreng originated from china, and our malaysian version here is lil bit different in taste, spices, cooking technic and so on...and mostly the old authentic dish is been here even before the malaysia and indonesia is born....hundred of years, historical facts in the internet sometimes is incorrect...
@@muhammadabdulwahab123selamba dia je claim semua makanan indon...makanan nusantara lagi tepat aku rasa...orang indo bahasa sendiri pun tak nak ngaku dari bahasa melayu....dtg mat salleh ni nak claim, aduh kelakar
@@chucknoris4208 this is getting ridiculous! So you’re claiming what is essentially “fried rice” originated in China, ok maybe it did, personally I think the person that came up with fried rice is lost in the mists of time. Nasi goreng is one of Indonesia’s ‘National dishes’ and it is classic, that’s a fact whether you like it or not. If you want fight over who came up with it first, best you start a fight with Indonesia not me! My comment was not intended to offend anyone and I still believe it is a harmless comment. But hey every man and his dog is an expert on the internet, so I’m wrong and you’re right, I know no longer care, thanks guys for taking all the fun out of this. I will never comment on this channel again.
The putu is in malaysia and Philippines? 🇵🇭🇵🇭🇵🇭🇵🇭🇲🇾🇲🇾🇲🇾🇲🇾
Name Saloma is Malaysia number 1 actres in 1950
And a good singer too once went to Australia to perform I think.
I think in malay Jacob is Yaacob.
I don't mean to discriminate but the first stall owner you went to selling Aceh cuisine is probably Indonesian which is why it's hard to get a response since they usually don't speak English. The second one on the other hand is Malaysian - you'd be hard pressed to find a Malaysian who don't speak English or is at least able to get across what they're trying to say. That's actually one of the more difficult aspects for travelers is actually trying to distinguish a Malaysian citizen which consists of Malay, Indian & Chinese compared to working foreigners usually from Indonesia, India, Bangladesh etc. Hope you safe travels & God bless~
Another thing to note, Malaysians are usually shy when you approach to greet them - I think we're a little hesitant of confrontation. You need to get through the exterior and let them open up like what you did with the Putu Piring owner - that was your golden standard right there
Hey Jacob! how's your trip in Malaysia?
From Ashraf vlog
