Disturbed, when this came out I was homeless, on drugs, and then jail. I now have a house, job, and husband. This song and “Clover Cage - In the Moment” are the two songs that helped get rid of my depression. I just want to send love to everyone and I want everyone to know things will get better. I played this song to my grandad when it first came out a couple of weeks before he died and he cried. Ive never saw him cry before, my nana said it was the first time since after the WW2. Died at the age of 102, love you grandad.

Maybe. But just because one person isn't connected to their feelings doesn't = we ALL have his impediment. Garfunkel was an odd guy at times, like all of us. I'm a realist. I think that sociopaths have taken over by promising the lie of immortality (religion) which they neither understand nor care about. There are still principled people out there who aren't sociopaths--- they're codependents- lol.
I laugh, but I'm serious. Codependents are those trying to understand why the sociopath is pushing a blade through their heart. "They must have a good reason to do this", and, "what happens to me doesn't matter as long as I please this random sociopath". Or, something....The issue is that sociopaths don't react better if you're kind to them. In fact, it might be worse. Liars believe everyone is lying. Out of all the versions I've heard Disturbed did a beautiful job on it cause every time I listen to it it just starts bringing tears to my eyes.

my mom loved this version. She had to hear it everyday. she was battling Parkinsons and Dementia. She had gotten very weak and bed ridden, but we still played this for her at least once a day until the day she passed . It was playing during her final breath. I miss you mom!!

In this day and age of technology, I see the masses gathering and saying, but not listening.
Posting replies is now the norm of "communication", disturbingly so, as the song implies...
"We" (all of mankind online) are loosing touch with what is actual communication, aka give and take, listening and reciprocation of the verbal, the total digestion of and integration of the information from the individual.
If we do not return to a form of personalized and intimate interactions, then we might as well not bother with such things as "individual rights".
Why bother speaking out if no one is willing to listen, why bother with speaking up if no one is going to reply.
I am referring to the "online communication" specifically, as the simplistic approach of it is actually quite damning and very much NOT truly communicating... like watching a movie and declaring a feeling of connection to the characters. True as it may be, still only a placebo to the real thing. An illusion of, but not to replace... just as a written sentence carries not the intricacies of nuance in spoken, all online is but a farce to what is really happening.
Virus or not, this isolation predates, and is far more prevalent than just a few years worth.
Artists have seen it coming for a long time, the signs ignored all the same...
...if anyone has read this far, I give you my hope, I give you my praise, and I have faith that you will take from this how truly precious another's time truly is.

My son just saw their concert in Melbourne Australia he is on austism spectrum and crowds and strangers are hard for him he had the best damn time with his 2support workers came home with a grazed chin and bloodied knees. I think both Simon & Garfunkel and Disturbed reflected two different aspects of this song beautifully. Simon & Garfunkel reflected the emptiness of the soul, and Disturbed reflected the tragedy and sadness. However, since there was more grandeur and passion in Disturbed's version, they win with the song for me.

Paul Simon who wrote this song (and who wrote all the songs-lyrics and music for Simon & Garfunkel) apparently saw Disturbed performing this song on a late night show and contacted the band saying he was very impressed by their "powerful " performance of this song.
I remember he told disturbed once that "this was his song now, not mine"

I think that most artists don't get upset, when they see another band doing one of their old songs. If anything, it should be flattering to know that your message is still relevant, even if the actual way it is sung, gets updated to a more modern beat and rhythm. In most cases, it is easily recognizable as derived from the original, with many of the basic patterns of notes and melodies being maintained, if slightly altered in tempo and range. This song is a perfect example of that and it goes to show, that another artists vision of the song, can even improve it, from the point of view of the younger generation and sometimes, even the original generation of listeners. However, there will always be those who prefer the original. I like both versions, but Disturbed's version is better, in my opinion. I think the power of the voice behind the message is what Paul recognized. The message was given strength.
Trent Reznor from NIN said the same thing to Johnny Cash about the song "Hurt." At first Reznor was a little put out because of how personal the song was to him but after he heard Cash sing it and saw his video for it he told him this is no longer my song it's yours.

I remember when I first heard this version on the morning radio. It was a couple of months after my father's sudden death. My dad had been a Simon and Garfunkel fan. I listened to this cover and had to pull to the side of the road as I was bawling my eyes out. It was cathartic. Thank you for helping me grieve with this song.

It is a worthy tribute. The 60's were a decade of hope and optimism and the music reflected that. Nowadays, people, at least those who are reasonably well informed, are more skeptical with regards to the agents which will direct our future. It may be simply because Disturbed is a hard rock/metal band, but this version does feel slightly more bleak than the original which I feel is justified. In that sense, it is very similar to A Perfect Circle's cover of John Lennon's "Imagine".

If you like THIS version...go find the one from Conan O'Brian's talk show. If at all possible, play it through a really good sound system...one that'll rattle your bones a little. I simply can not get past that first lift without sobbing uncontrollably. Very few pieces of music can do that to me. I'm not going to do it tonight, because I've had a long day and, truthfully, it's a bit exhausting to listen to and watch. But, damn, when I need an emotional cleanse...David Draiman, on that night, sick as a dog with a high fever, (as the legend goes) threw a performance that belongs upon Mount Olympus...but it was given to us mere mortals!

He has an amazing voice for sure. Everyone has their own interpretation of the lyrics, I'm on board with David Draiman as far as this darker vocalization. The Simon and Garfunkel beat should be with some lyrics about how two young lovers reunite. The harmony and bounce of it would at least match the lyrics better. All personal opinion though. To each their own.

This was one of the favorite songs of my dad, and thanks to it he discovered Disturbed, which then became one of his most favorite music bands ever. He passed away 12 days ago, after 6 weeks of fighting Covid-19. And this song played at his funeral. I love you, Dad. And I miss you so, so much.
