I’m only 20, but teach third graders ballet, and I literally quit class because we were starting spring recital dances, and they were looking so discouraged. I asked them all what’s wrong, and they almost all started crying about how they aren’t good at ballet and feel fat. They’re in THIRD GRADE. We stopped class and talked about one thing that makes them feel pretty in ballet, and one thing they’d like to work on. I told them about you and your videos, and how they always need to be open with me and others because otherwise I can’t help them. I wanted to thank you for being a light for little third graders and you don’t even know it!!!
that’s amazing that you do that for them! i’m a teen and my teachers don’t really care about body image. i do think that they know how insecure they are, but they don’t address it and it hurts. we all just pick ourselves apart in the mirror.
imnotaimee that’s exactly what my parents say to me.I used to not believe them but now I realise that it is actually true and you should never feel that you are bad because you don’t get in or something.
Also all the shakiness and feeling intimated is so normal when you first start taking open classes and move away from your regular ballet school. I used to get so nervous and intimidated when I first started taking open classes but eventually it becomes so normal to you and you meet other regular open class dancers that make it more enjoyable. I found that taking open classes made me less nervous in auditions and more adaptable because of the constant change in style when hopping around doing different open classes. You've got this Luna! This is such an exciting time off your life and I know you have the right motivation and drive to keep persisting
Omg. So I’m a diver and literally no one realizes how mentally challenging the sport is. Not just that every dive or even jump or lineup, if you make the slightest mistake, you smack, or you hit the board. But also you have to make it look easy, make it look like you’re not afraid or it’s not a hard or new dive. You have to compete under pressure and no matter how consistent you are, in meets or practices, anything could go wrong. At any moment you could get distracted and get hurt. And I guess Ballet is that hard on your mentality too. And I’m so happy I found your channel because you help me feel like I’m not alone. That I’m not the only one having these thoughts and am not the only one struggling. You are so amazing and I hope you keep making videos like you have been. You are super inspiring like I love you haha.
Allie ::: so true. Another thing people don’t realize is challenging is figure skating. You judge yourself, you compare yourself, and you eventually start to find all the problems with yourself. And we have to make it look easy, like we are happy. If you don’t have a strong mentality you can be ripped apart for real. I’m glad someone can relate but I’m also sad someone can relate.
his class is a set class!! you have to take it a few times and just hide in the back until you know the combos haha but its definitely scary at first. follow tom gold!! he knows what he's doing :))
i love your channel. it’s so raw and natural. you inspire me so much and have helped me see that even beautiful people like you go through some things, but there’s more than just our setbacks :)
Hi! I am a former dancer who lived in NYC and studied at SAB (when Darci Kistler was in SAB too!). Wendy Walen was a roommate of one of my good friends - that shows my age but I also took many classes at Steps and LOVED Willy Burman’s class. I am so glad to hear that he is still teaching! You have a great attitude to get through this time Luna. Auditions are tough and definitely are not a reflection of you but of what a company is looking for based on their needs and anticipated rep the next season. I danced in three companies over my years and each was special and different in its own way but aligned with me and where I was as well. Keep strong and open to what lies ahead. Hope you enjoyed NYC - always loved the Freed store too! Keep you the great work and congratulations on your 100K! I am just starting out myself but not even close to 1K! Congrats and keep strong and focused but enjoy as well!
carochan86 Hi! I have my doctorate in school psychology and work as a leader in systems change. Vastly different careers for sure but I started into psychology based on my interest in body image and eating disorders.
Hey Luna!! I really liked your little speech at the end about putting yourself out of your comfort zone. A lot of things in life are scary as hell, but by pushing yourself to try you get a little more "desensitised" to the fear each time. And when you're not afraid, wonderful things happen!! Best of luck for a wonderful 2019, and congratulations on 100k! You deserve every bit of it :*
i’m so proud of u for stepping out of ur comfort zone and trying not to let it get to you! everything happens for a reason (as u said lol) and i’m sure things will work out for you, no matter what career you pursue.
OMG Luna Is in my City!!!! Welcome to NY!!!!! Confidence doesn't just come from winning everything in life. Confidence is knowing you tried your hardest. Way to go trying even knowing you may fail. You are an inspiration to so many people and you just showed so many people its ok to go for it anyway despite doubts and trepidation. Best 2019 to you!!!!
Girl!! Be proud you even went to the audition! It’s so fucking hard to even get there sooo go you! And not to mention you got a good training session out of it
congrats on 100k! I love your channel so much because you are so open about yourself and you don’t just show the perfect and “aesthetic” parts of your life. also thank you for being open about your body image because I can relate so much❤️ keep being you!
This was very uplifting. Amazing how you were upset but worked your way through. I’m also a shy dancer (not professional) and I will try to believe more in myself
rejection sucks lmao i dance as well as act in plays and it took me a while to really make myself understand that its nothing personal but man it was hard
This was such a good video and even though things didn't work out at the company you handled it so well I feel like a proud big sister!!You'll do great wherever you end up Luna! 💕
Seriously, your feet are awesome. I have low insteps AND I’m bow-legged, so I know. My line is jacked and I can’t get over my box😡 You’re beautiful ✨ I’m glad you went to the audition. Wonderful experience. Keep doing what you ❤️ love.
Congrats on 100K subscribers! You handled the audition really maturely. It's true...I think with any kind of company, ensemble type audition it's all about who is going to fit in best with the people they already have, and you're going to have to be able to immediately step in and catch on and fit in. And of course with any kind of acting, dancing, etc audition they have an idea of who they want and are searching for someone who fits that idea. It's just the nature of the game...but it's awesome that you went because the more you audition the more comfortable with company auditions you'll become and you'll begin to learn more about how they work and what they look for. tbh it's not super far off from interviewing for business type jobs, where you might have the skills and on paper all the qualifications that the literally 100 other people who applied for have and somehow there has to be that one thing that makes you stand out. Eventually, you'll find the right place to be with people who are impressed and *want* you as apart of their company/team :)
I'm 14 about be 15 I just started ballet in 2021 in January I'm trying to not feel bad for myself because everyone there been dancing longer than me but it still hurts sometimes because I don't have good technique but every time I wash your videos I stared feel better because I feel like I'm not the only one who is struggling
Came back to this video. Just got caught from a Disney audition and I’m sitting at this little Irish restaurant having dinner and trying not to cry 😂geesh can’t make it in ballet can’t make it in anything I’m a little sad
Bridget Miller it was probably New York City Ballet. Since it’s in NY and also they (historically) only take dancers from the school that they are connected to. Also she said it was a big company and a big deal and that company is just that!
random question; what level class do u typically take at steps? i’ve been wanting to go forever and i just have no grasp on the level system there and it scares me lol 😬
Keep working at it. You know your strength s and weekness . Keep taking classes and exercise to keep up your stamina. Looking at videos from professionals they cross train and work out and take classes constantly.
Mom’s a fashion designer, sister’s a singer, she’s a dancer and a UA-camr, and they’re all super stylish ...family goals!!

that's so upsetting :((
Well done for doing this!! Take care of the little ones so they can learn to love themselves and ballet at the same time
that’s amazing that you do that for them! i’m a teen and my teachers don’t really care about body image. i do think that they know how insecure they are, but they don’t address it and it hurts. we all just pick ourselves apart in the mirror.
cara smart I quit ballet when I was five cause I felt too fat
i admire your shameless public vlogging skills so much omg
their loss! when one door closes another opens
imnotaimee that’s exactly what my parents say to me.I used to not believe them but now I realise that it is actually true and you should never feel that you are bad because you don’t get in or something.
not really.. why would they want someone whos so clearlyunder prepared and not serious
TheNonMakeupGuru stop hating on her for wanting an experience. She literally said she wasn’t expecting anything.

thank you for sharing this! i never knew diving was this challenging. i guess you learn something new everyday!

Were you auditioning for New York City Ballet?
Maybe abt
You can't audition for NYCB unless you're in the school, so probably not.
I think it was abt Edit: actually it might have been nycb cause they usually only take ppl from sab but she said they were doing open auditions so...
She did say your supposed to come from the school but they had an open audition for some random reason
