Came for the thumbnail because of the interesting image of Faust Mephisto a soldier and a japanese man together in a room. Now i wish I understood german
That segment was about Mori Ōgai, a japanese military doctor who studied in Leipzig in the 1880s, where he fell in love with German literature. After having countless discussions about Goethe's Faust in Auerbachs Keller, he was offered to translate the tragedy into Japanese, which made him famous to this day and got him a spot in the restaurant. Hope this is not too late!!
