@@Colby2D Yeah, it's one of the few things I hate about Aggretsuko besides the force Haidtsuko relationship. And the worst part is that it's nigh impossible to find Haida x Fenneko fanfics and ship art of the two is sadly rare as well.
@@Colby2D Man, that ain't no lie. I'm pretty sure the worst culprits of this are Seasons 3 and 4. Season 3 because it's a whole bait and switch with Inui and Retsuko where they reward Haida's bloody obessesion and Season 4 for previously mentioned reasons.
I love third season. I love how from rock button, because of a series of accidents her life improved highly with the idol plot, and then that guy showed up, and everything went downhill fast. Also an epic finale
seasons 4 and 5 are honestly so forgettable to me :/ and not gonna lie, season 3 scared the crap out of me having just moved away to college 😵💫 seasons 1 and 2 will always win me over with their relatability and charm :)
@@Colby2D YES absolutely, and i like that she kinda pushed him back after his tough love bit!! they weren’t scared to hurt each other’s feelings by going a little far, and that felt really real
That’s funny, I definitely felt that when watching season 1, I guess when she’s the main character it feels more odd for her to have someone look like her than kabae and her husband who are the exact same except for a little stubble haha
7:30 This part of the season 4 is to demonstrate that Haida no longer jealous to the close relationship between Retsuko and Tadano, which is a character development of Haida.
That makes sense. One thing I didn’t include in the video because I couldn’t fit it in well was a lot of seasons end on a weird line, like season 3 ends with haida saying “are you hungry?” and Retsuko says “I haven’t eaten yet” and then the dramatic credits play. So I may be a little bit biased lumping those endings together as feeling a little jarring to me, but yeah I was also thinking it’s nice Haida doesn’t have animosity towards Tadano anymore. Thanks for your comment :]
How come these cartoony animal people could have a more interesting life then me... Great video by the way! Really liked the selection of background songs and the season ranking.
I remember the Christmas special hitting different at the time that it dropped cause as you said we didn’t know if we were getting more aggretsuko. So getting an actual continuation of the story (even tho it was a little) in addition to just more bs’ing around was super fun to just have dropped out of no where.
With how important getting married was to Retsuko it's extremely weird she'd be OK with a court room wedding. As well as her parents. It just felt like the writers just ran out of time and needed to get to the end game right now as oppose to building on it, or even leaving that in the air. Also I don't think it's weird that Retsuko screamed at Tadano. You can see she's trying to explain to him in a soft, gentle, but stern voice what she wants. However, Tadano wasn't hearing it. He was just trying to convince her that his way is best. The only time he shut up and actually listened to what she had to say was when she did her scream singing.
I assumed they were just getting their marriage certificate, like it’s not uncommon for people to get legally married, getting all the paperwork out of the way, BEFORE their ceremony do they cans curly enjoy their honeymoon and married life without the strife of paperwork waiting for them. But I agree, it was weird and disappointing that we didn’t get an actual wedding scene. A special focusing on their wedding ceremony would’ve been really nice
@@Colby2D it's not about haida it's just the writers fault and I would be very happy if he ended up with inui or tadano hell fenneko would have been better
Oh yes, how dare he care so much for her that he would prevent a lethal assult on her life. Then be her best encouragement for running for political office.
@@bio-weaponn5576 Haida only managed to save Retsuko because he was already stalking her! Stop defending this loser he’s an incel and he should have moved on.
Im rewatching the entire series again (currently in season 3) In season 2 there's actually a mention to the Christmas special episode washimi just said *"it's that guy from Christmas heyda was it"*
Season 1 is basically a depressing and dark season for retsuko. Things only get much brighter in season 2 and the after. That's the basic tone of season 1. And overwork is just a common problem is Asia, even in modern country like Japan. There is a weird working culture called system of responsiblity, which make them get off really really late until they get their job done. Every Retsuko season is focusing on the sociey problem of Japan. But season 2 & season 3 really hit the spot and have strong character emotion and development at the same time. Whick make both the best season of Aggretsuko imo.
Yeah I agree, 2 and 3 are in a tier above the rest, and 4 and 5 were a tier below for me. And yeah the end of season 1 where they basically worked through the night sounds like an HR nightmare in the U.S. lol, I’m grateful my day job isn’t that strenuous
Don't feel bad about missing the context of what was said in the hospital lol, I have no idea why Netflix doesn't include it in chronological order with the rest of the series when it has crucial story details in it.
I feel like I (personally) prefer season 2, and then 1, but it's cause the Idol Arc was really out of nowhere to me, but you made me realize how many good things it has that I have forgotten entirely! ♡
My initial order for top seasons best to worst was actually Seasons 2, 1, then 3, but at the last second I had to switch 3 and 1, because although season 1 wraps itself up so nicely and Is a pretty diverse season, I think season 3 just had more funny and interesting moments, a faster pace, and most importantly the ending of Haida and Retsuko was so sweet and to me was by far the best songs/performances of the whole show. Thanks for watching! :]
@@Colby2D that's very good insight and it's completely valid you had more fun with it, thanks for taking your time to even replying my comment, it's really sweet to read another opinion! ♡ thanks for making me see that side of it aswell, I might have to even watch it again
I kinda like season 4, I agree in most of the points said because I do feel it was a regression on Haida’s arc, mostly because he was all “let’s kick ass and show the world!” And then proceed to not kick ass or show the world, also kinda character assassination when Haida didn’t consider to tell retsuko any of what was happening, when I feel Haida from the last season would when she was outright asking him… I’m not a big fan of plots that can be resolved if characters just sat and talk, like, why didn’t retsuko tell Haida she was seeing Tadano? I don’t think he would believe she’s doing something behind his back, her hiding it only made him more suspicious. But I do like that they gave Haida the spotlight in the season, and I like that they showed Haida’s insecurities, he’s not without flaw, and really feels the need to be reassured, so even though he really loves retsuko, he has a deep feeling of needing to fit in, and yeah, understandable now that we know about his family and his weird relation with his dad. All in all, I don’t consider it the worst but not the best, season 5 it’s its own can of worms.
Yeah after more time passes I start to think season 4’s harsh workplace culture revelations were more real than anything from season 5. Im like “perhaps I was too harsh on you” lol
I think maybe the point was to Haida and Retsuko at near equal insecurity level so they could help fix each other. Yes those issues could be solved in a much easier way but I don't dare ask to be put in the same shoes to prove I could do better.
I always thought it was a little boring and the ending was a little disappointing to me that they just walked to the train together, like not even having a fun night of karaoke or something, but I’m glad you and others enjoy it! Thanks for watching :]
My rankings for seasons would be as followed. Season 1: pretty solid it's basic but it sets the stage for story, world and characters it has. Season 2: in my opinion the best season of the show and tadano was built up rather well and the whole pursue your dreams theme was really nice. Season 3: mostly good but I had issues with how the show was ready to have hidia move on from rettesko a welcomed choice in my book till the show decided to abandon the entirety of it over a text and the whole stocker plot theme has some issues in the sense even if it wasn't all his idea hidia stocking rettesko to stop another stocker. Overall nearly solid but not season 2 level. Season 4: the worst season baring tone(misspelled the name probably) little arc. I'd rather pretend this season was a practical joke but it's not. Season 5: it was ok but I feel season 4 really killed the show for me and where as season 5 plot was fine it feels like it was them trying to redeem hidia even though the writers put him in that position for no reason other than bad writing. Overall the show's ending was mediocre for me at best.
Yeah I think your ranking sounds pretty similar to mine in terms of placement. I did really like Ton’s arc in season 4, they were pretty brutal with the corporate politics in season 4, those same situations could have been what motivated them more in season 5
Thank you for the awesome video! I wish season 5 had more of a focus on Retsuko herself, so her character arc ended on a more satisfying note. I think season 2 is my favorite! (What is the song playing during the season 3 segment? It sounds so familiar but I can’t place it!)
4:35 It was basically step one of Haida getting out of the friend zone. With the effectiveness coming from him trying to save Retsuko from going too far with online admiration, then showing some comfort to her after everything during their walk in the subway. 5:29 Well after getting nearly STABBED to death I'd say going back to her office job was somewhat of an act of self-preservation from her end. After having a farwell show with the OTM girls of course. She does end up wanting a none eventful normal life later in the series anyway. 6:00 Haida was trying to save and improve the job of his fellow employees especially Retsuko through his coding skills. Himuro saw some potential in Haida and encouraged him to go a step further. Haida had intentions of helping everyone around him however this obviously backfired with him going down a morally questionable path. After having Retsuko (the very person he's the most concern over providing for) slaps some sense into him both verbally and physically, he stands up to Himuro learning a lesson in personal responsibility. He did end up leaving his job due to a sense of uselessness and even degraded a bit further than that but his journey in season 4 was one of figuring out how to help people through his own terms rather than someone else's. 7:00 To be fair it was probably uncharted territory for a writing team making a show focused on work place office dramas and romances to suddenly sift to a Metal Gear/James Bond type story arc. I'd love to be a fly on a wall with the writers trying figure out how Retsuko and her friends running for a political position of power makes any sense. 8:00 I mean technically the season does end with a shot of Haida and Retsuko being together but WHAT WAS even Tadano's struggle in season 4? I honestly can't recall. 9:00 Having near death experience tends to make one not give a crap about making drastic changes to their lives in a hurry but I can only imagine people getting pissed at Retsuko for breaking up with Tadano because she wanted to be a "blushing bride" yet settles for THIS with Haida. We could definitely use an extra special or something showcasing Haida and Retsuko having a REAL wedding though. 11:40 It was more like her sharing her passion with Rasasuke than anything ill willing. However it was his near empty reply to such that made her finally relize this wasn't going to work. 12:00 People find admitting one's feelings is "creepy" and they wonder why real romance is slowly dying in this world. 13:00 Sounds like the "get a job hippie" principle in a nutshell. 13:50 I figured her going all the way with the music idol route would be peak character growth for her, or at least anything better than just going back to her office job which she seemed to have outgrown. 15:30 It couldn't be more obvious there that Haida and Retsuko are soul mates. 18:00 Anai probably gives people ptsd of UA-cam and Twitter arguments. 21:20 Again no ill will is intended there she's basically expressing how she feels over this situation in the most passionate way she knows how. 22:00 One could argue that the series is a means of people with a long history in Japanese corporation life trying to get their voices heard, or at least get some rage vented.
Even though the show ended, it still hurts me cause I know it ended lol. But I agree with your ranking, a lot could more could have been done with certain arcs, but at the same time some of the character's redemption arcs were well done. Personally I really liked Ton's development throughout the series. The way he acted was terrible, but after all that happened, the type of advice he gives to Retsuko and especially Haida in season 5 shows that he genuinely does care about them. Even if it took so many things for that side of him to come out, it was nice to see it happen. Especially when Retsuko helped him out in season 3 by having him manage the UA-cam account after his daughters found out about where he was really working after Haida was promoted. But when it came to Haida, they really did tossle him aorund, especially with season five where we just find out who his parents are, that his last name is haida, thus I'm stuck thinking what his real name is at this rate, and the fact that we never saw him actually get his life together, only by having to assume that he did find a job that Retsuko's father considered to be worthy enough, unless they were just fine with him sudenly coming to the house and being like hey, it's me , your son in law. But overall, as much as I love Haida, a lot of the things that he ended up doing was very frustrtaing because instead of realizing his faults he would pin it on the excuse that it was for Retsuko. But I also feel like that's why they also make a good couple in a way, where she calls him out for what he does, while he supports her in what she does. Because like the christmas episode implies, she wants validation for what she does, and yes even though she doesn't need to worry about what others think, it's something that is also normally seen in life, I know because I'm that type of person too lol. And thus, Haida's support is some form of validation for her, as what we saw in the seaon 5 finale. Their relationship is very rocky and a bit toxic at time yes, but I feel like it was good in a way, because they both had somewhat similar interests in terms of a married life, in comparison to how Retsuko and Tadano's relationship went about it. Also, don't get me wrong, I love Tadano, but even though he did not share the same interest as Retsuko, it was nice seeing him be there for her to the very end regadrless of their history. Overall, regardless of the ending, which I also was not very happy with, again bittersweet, but it's alright for what we were given. The show will forver have a place in my heart, and I will for sure be going back to watch an episode here and there to fill the void from aggretsuko depression lol. Also, great video! Keep it up!
Thanks very much! And yeah I think haida and retsuko cover each other’s flaws pretty well and they make a good couple in that regard. And maybe it shows Retsuko’s development that she doesn’t obsess over Instagram likes anymore or that she never really kept haida around because he validates her, that would have been interesting to see but I also think if they did have that aspect in their relationship, people would be more upset than they already are that they ended up together. Thanks for watching:]
Season 4 *irked me SO MUCH* because even though Retsuko had repeatedly shot down Haida’s affections (fair enough, her right to do so) Haida still simper after her and the whole “Haida worked for the Evil Boss” excuse was “he did it all for her” ... the same woman who repeatedly used and dropped him when it suited her?! To find out he married her in the end honestly sickened me 🤬🤬🤬
@@bio-weaponn5576 she has repeatedly and frequently used Haida, heck all her friends to some degree but mainly Haida. Had he said yes to her proposal in Season 1 she would have quit that day! I was gonna count her needing saving with the Anae thing but that one I can let go cos Anae was a straight-up psycho who any normal person would have reported (hell she was already besties with Washimi at that point so why didn’t she?), anyway: During the whole idol thing she *never* told her “friends” what was going on until it all blew up. Fenneko even says at one point she sees them as “people you talk to at work” and this is true, despite them frequently saving her incompetent butt she froze them all out, with the exception of Washimi (but even she didn’t know the true extent). Then when she needed to learn guitar who did she call up? Oh yeah, the guy she talks to at work and ruined his chance with a decent girl! Now sure, Haida could have declined and given Inue a chance, but for plot convenience he didn’t. Then when she was being followed by the stalker, who she KNEW was out there, she still chose to leave work and walk alone despite the danger and she KEPT WALKING even as Monaka was *screaming* at her to get somewhere safe. She was a dumbass and should have gotten scarred for it … but who saved her? Haida. Who until that point had been respecting her boundaries and staying away. And what does she do when he tries to help her? Claims he is ‘forcing his feelings on her’ … uh no idiot, that’s what the stalker was doing. Haida has been nothing but a solid friend to you and YOU repeatedly drop him like a hot brick. Then next Season, Retsuko is suddenly irate Haida won’t take the next step, after 3 Seasons of her ignoring/rejecting him. Now this part annoyed me, Haida should have absolutely taken the hint, unrequited love sucks but it happens. Then, to really kick the audience in the ass, they made him into a villain then had him say “I did it all for you!” I wouldn’t be as pissed if the dialogue was tweaked, just have the Shifty Boss threaten the others’ jobs, Haida is a caring guy, this would make him tow the line. But nah, he’s gonna risk his job AND his freedom for a woman who has repeatedly used and abused his good nature? I hung on hoping it would improve, but this show went out with one *pitiful* death whimper: having the good dude who was only ever kind to his friends get shafted while the titular idiot got everything she wanted handed to her. So nah, this show ended for me at Season 3. Retsuko is not a good person and a worse protagonist (whose singing sounds like a rusty chainsaw) 😒😒😒
@@LadyLeomon Kinda the whole point of why she faces repercussions for those mistakes in the first place. This isn't something where the main character is defender of justice or anything, it's a slice of life show based around someone having to learn hard lessons (rather it takes an episode or a few seasons to learn that lesson) either on her own terms or from external influences. Her friends literally even call her out and roost her on her short and long-lasting flaws, then slap some sense into her because that's what friends are there for in the first place. Retsuko is a character who makes mistakes and gets into situations ANYONE could get into hence she serves as a vector of life lessons that aims to connect with people whom made similar mistakes or prevent them from making those mistakes in the first place. I'm not gonna to constantly hate on a character whose mistakes in life are the exact reason their story is being told in the first place, especially when they finally grow beyond said mistake.
I actually liked the christmas special because it didnt set anything too big for the charcters, as we didnt know we would have more seasons at the time. It works well as both an epilogue to s1 and a prologue to s2, while also including crossmedia in their storytelling (when the special came out, the showrunners made her a real instagram profile with the pictures shown in the special, as well as new ones hinting at the topics of s2. It went as far as being a stable through s3, where Retsuko gave her account to the otm girls because it had a bigger number of followers). In regards to Haida, he was still shy at the time and unsure if it was wise for him to ask Retsuko out on christmas after being rejected, so for him to share time with her on their way to the station felt appropiate (and also cleared some of Haida's anxiety, as he was worried that Retsuko might dislike his company entirely). Also, I have no idea why people keep complaing about Haida and saying he's obsessed? He never imposes himself on Retsuko and mostly chastises himself due to his unwavering feelings, is not his fault that he didnt click with Inui, I mean, he was clearly uncomfortable when she made advances with him, so it wasn't weird that they didn't stay together. Haida may have been shy towards Retsuko, but he never felt uncomfortable in her presence, if anything, he felt that he had to be better and bigger to deserve being around her (hence the reason his admiration for Tadano turned to jealousy, as well as his own needs to be acknowledge due to his poor family life that was implied only lasted 17 years before he left his parent's home). Both of them grew to understand the other and get to know their real personalities, and they realized how similar their looks on life were, where is the supposed obsession in that? I swear some of yall are just salty because donkey boy was hotter and are coping the lack of a sugar daddy.
Yeah the Christmas special was pretty cool it hit different back then haha, yeah I find haida pretty relatable and chill, but I think some people are bothered by his persistence, as in the real world there are guys that are kinda pests to women they like
What I really don't like about the hospital conclusion is that it takes place in the Christmas special. Seriously though, don't feel bad for forgetting about the Christmas special though LOL. I had zero idea that it even existed, and it took me a fat minute to realize out of my confusion (because I was also like, "Wait. But... we don't get to know what's said?") that we do figure it out in there. I don't know. It's just confusing. Nothing hurts more than one of your favorite shows ending off on a horrible note. So when I watched S3, S4, and S5, my love for the show had my heart wanting me to like the progress of the characters and the plot, however, my mind was in heavy disagreement. :,) I've gotta say that my ranking would be: 1. Season 1 2. Season 2 3. Season 5 (felt more like a S4, but I'm pretending it doesn't exist 💀). 4. Season 3 5. Season 4 What made me upset about Season 5 is that the conclusion raises SO MANY questions for me: 1. Does Haida and Retsuko ever move out of their apartment? Are they almost done saving up for a house? 2. Retsuko and Haida got married, right. Does her parents even know? What's their reaction? I don't get it. Is Haida still distancing himself from his family? Does Retsuko's father grow to believe that he's worthy of his daughter now (which I could maybe see be the possibility because of the photo at the end but I want to see it for myself 🥲). 3. I'm disappointed we don't get to know Fenneko more. She's honestly my favorite character in the show and her laughing is ICONIC ✨️. I could go on and on, but I'll leave it here for now. Lol
Haha thank you for watching, and I’ve read some people say that they moved into a new apartment or they’re looking for a new one at the end (when shikabane is looking at the board) but I don’t know I think it’s not uncommon to live in an apartment still since they’re still working in the city. And yes I would have loved to see more of Fenneko
I'd personally rank them like this, from least to best: 6. Season 4 5. Christmas Special 4. Season 3 3. Season 5 2. Season 1 1. Season 2 This may just be recency bias or controversial, but I actually thought Season 5 was the best the show had been overall since Season 2, and was a pretty good, though not amazing, way to end the series. I'm pretty much in the same boat with everyone regarding Season 4 though lol.
I think that’s interesting and there’s not really an order that I think is too right or wrong, but I think season 3 ended much more satisfyingly to me than 5, but 5 had a lot of fun moments. If I look at the pros of any season, they could all be a top contender for sure. Thanks for watching :]
I like how it's linear or goes in order as far as story is told, but based on ranking the seasons..🥲😹 I go with the same rank list as shown on video. Season 3 though, the part where Retsuko gets attack by the stalker fan..🙀😿 Dramatic🤯
For me, Retsuko was at her best in season 3. The chick I saw managing the OTM Girls’ finances and media was the person I really wanted to see kicking butt at the show’s end. Parts of this do show up, but season 3 felt more like a conclusion to Retsuko’s arc than… almost anything after it (marrying Haida notwithstanding).
Haida and retsuko should’ve never ended up together The fact they threw together some half assed scene with marriage paperwork being filled out proves the showrunners didn’t think so either, but they just settled because they wrote themselves into a corner and gave up
I wouldn’t be surprised if they felt they had to fit things into the last remaining 10-15 minutes, but I think they showed haida and retsuko together too much throughout the entire show where there would be a lot of people disappointed if they weren’t together at the end. I personally don’t really have any connection for the two of them but I do think it was the right decision based on the writing of the show as a whole
So 5 seasons and a Christmas special building up a connection and Haida encouragement to Retsuko after almost getting killed by a hit and run vehicle assult doesn't mean anything apperently? ua-cam.com/video/Eno9cojhOHQ/v-deo.html
Alpha? She screws up multiple times throughout the series, hides at home after being nearly stabbed, and has to be encouraged by others to even use her metal voice against adversaries. Haida actually starts taking up some of Retsuko's traits around season 5, if not earlier.
season 1 6/10 was ok, season 2 5/10 did not like it least good, season 3 5/10 surreal but ok , Season 4 I loved it 7/10, season 8 it was awesome finally a good ending to tie all seasons. 8/10
As a defender of Retsuko x Haida, I say that the reason why according to you "they didn't have chemistry" (which in my opinion, they did), is because when they started dating they were already very comfortable with each other that they reached a level married in just months
That’s totally fair, I think they should have ended up together and stuff, but it is hard for me to remember when they started dating if it was season 3 or 4, but it is kinda a good thing because they’re so comfortable like you mentioned. Thanks for watching :]
@@Colby2D Honestly, I have a whole theory of how their relationship evolved XD. But I would say it was at the end of season 3 when Retsuko FINALLY opened up emotionally to Haida (I mean that she stopped seeing Haida in only "friendzone"), and season 4 when they officially started dating.
@@Aural4444 No, as someone who does agree in chemistry and comfort, Haida and Retsuko were downright boring towards the end, and skipping vitally important moments for a rushed political subplot is just poor planning. Basically, we missed a lot of the more important steps of Haida and Retsuko's relationship in favor of having them regress back and forth for as long as possible for the 'will they won't they' subplot, and then it just ended with, "Oh yeah, they're married now." I think you might be biased because you like the ship. XD
I'm kinda confused as to why you think the Christmas episode is an endorsement of instagram. I thought the whole thing was a critique of getting online validation and trying to be an influencer and it was portrayed as being a neutral or negative thing, definitely nothing positive. Just because they named the company outright doesn't mean they have permission or endorsement from them. I know most shows are afraid of being sued so they tend not to say megacorp's name outright, but they're still technically allowed to.
I think that’s a fair point, but the question I would pose is “why Instagram specifically, why not InstantBook or Hologram?”. They did use Instagram to advertise their real instagram pages in the episode, so you could make that argument as to why, but with many companies, especially social media, any exposure is good exposure. They have a mixed take, and I don’t know if they were paid or sponsored at all, but I respect their mixed take on social media. Thanks for your comment and for watching, I really appreciate it
Haida X Retsuko felt so forced and soulless. There was almost no chemistry, just awkward interactions between them while everyone was pushing them to date each other. He should have settled with Inui and stopped simping for Retsuko. Not only that, but what kind of lesson does this tell men, "If she rejects you, don't move on to better options, keep obsessing over the one that's clearly not that into you and eventually she will come around. " Their relationship was handled so poorly. The only things they had in common were their taste in music, their jobs, and the fact they are both very emotionally immature.
@@KingEgyptian Well the "simping" ultimately led to preventing Retsuko from meeting an early grave and finally fulfilled her wish of getting married. Can't really see Haida as the bad guy here when he literally performed the most heroic fleets in the show.
@@bio-weaponn5576 Bro you are gaslighting. Nobody said Haida was a bad guy, nor does his simping have anything to do with him saving Retsuko. He was just at the right place at the right time. Retsuko and Haida get together in the end, yes, but the whole relationship was not good and the marriage was very quickly glossed over. There was no real mutual romance, just Haida obsessing (simping) over Retsuko and Retsuko getting with Haida cuz there was no one else while being peer pressured by everyone to date him. Hell Haida had more chemistry with Inui, Tadano, and Fenneko than he did Retsuko.
Reason for made up department is this not sure how true this but legally in Japan cannot get fried so have to do something what happen to pig guy like made up department get board out your mind so you quit the job that why that happened
I love these videos and seeing everyone else's take on the show and each different season. I feel like I'm the only one who really enjoyed season 4, I really like when the show focuses on the job itself and all the office antics, season 5 flopped for me though. I feel like throwing a political campaign into the mix was so random tbh. I'm sorry if I upset a lot of fans but I hate season 3 with a passion...how unrealistically they approached retsuko's trauma, haida's song in particular made my blood boil. It almost felt like they were mocking the whole situation and her ptsd. Haida's constant obsession with Retsuko is just not healthy and he should've moved on.
Thanks for watching! And that’s totally valid, I think season 4 had great aspects with how depressing and brutal the corporate world can be. And season 3 is pretty divisive because of its unrealistic approach to trauma. I generally chalk it up to them trying to find a silver lining and help her despite the trauma, but a lot of it rubbed me the wrong way too, like when she was in her room and they were saying “if she doesn’t go back to work they’ll fire her” it’s realistic but upsetting in a weird way to me
I noticed that everyone who hates Haida for that always tends to ignore the fact that Washimi and Gori were also involved in that and what the whole general point of what Haida was trying to do.
Honestly Season 5 was the most disappointing. Specifically the most unbelievable thing about the series, the woman who *repeatedly* failed at pretty much everything because she was so goddamned incompetent ... ended up winning all because she can sing a little Death Metal? It was funny the first time she did it, but by Season 2 it had honestly gotten boring. Also she _frequently_ cracks under pressure, how long will she last in her new role? Damn they did my boi Haida dirty, he deserved better than to be some ditz’s backup ... the entirety of Season 4 had him set up to be working for the Shady Boss “because he was doing it all for Retsuko” ... the woman who had frequently used/dropped him according to her whims. I thought Haida was finally moving on with Inue but to have him still simping after her even and be willing to _break the law for her_ ... is just pure bullsh*t! The true reason Haida was chosen to be cast as “the villain” alongside Boss Dog was the simple fact that NO ONE ELSE could have done the job! Let’s analyse this a bit: Ton and Tsubone: both too ‘old-school’ to do what Boss Dog wanted, Komiya: would combust without Ton to guide him, Fenneko: wouldn’t have wanted to work directly for “the man”, Tsunode: a dits not unlike Retsuko (how she still has a job is a miracle), Kabae: would have the same issue she did in the show, that she’s a good mom who puts her kids first, Anae: cracked under the pressure of the current job he has, so of course he wouldn’t do it, Okami: we know next to nothing about him he’s always just sort of _there_ and lastly our titular idiot ... is just that. That she had not been fired (mainly due to Washimi’s intervention) is a miracle, she could barely cope with her own workload, no way in hell could she do it either! The simple fact is they made Haida a co-villain in Season 4 because NO ONE ELSE was competent enough for the job and THAT, to me, is just lazy writing! But back to my main issue: Retsuko was just NOT a good friend, to *any* of her ‘friends’ throughout the majority of the show, including Haida ... finding out he *married her* in the end honestly made me angry I wasted all this time on the show 🤬🤬🤬 Thanks for the review Colby (glad I wasn’t the only one disappointed) 💙🐱💙
I appreciate your comment. And I personally think they’re a fine couple, if anything I’m frustrated Retsuko isn’t more successful because of her death metal screaming, like plenty of people have a ton of success for much smaller talents, and she has millions of subscribers like I wouldn’t go back into my office if I had that lol. But I think she succeeds because she puts her all into whatever she does even if it’s kinda forced upon her, which doesn’t feel too great at times haha
Winning?!? She lost the election and almost got KILLED because of her death metal voice. Everyone is suppose to be selfish in some way, Retsuko isn't suppose to be a flawless saint simply because she's the main character. Her friends are there to give life advice for her to use to better herself as an individual (but again she'll NEVER be perfect), and Haida is generally the closest things to win she achieves outside of all her other connections.
@@bio-weaponn5576 wait, she lost? I heard already she got what she wanted and convinced Haida to marry her as I saw the trailer I was certain she was somehow gonna win and be president (or mayor, whatever) despite being the most incompetent person in the office on any given day. Time and again she comes out on top despite doing nearly nothing to deserve it (then either gives it up so the show can return to the status quo). So finding out she *didn’t* win made my day, thanks!
@@LadyLeomon A. Retsuko didn't want to run for office, but Masuo Ikari kept pressuring her into it. B. @@bio-weaponn5576 nah I’m good, the last Season killed my interest when they made Haida into the main villain’s henchman solely because he was the only employee competent enough to do it. Anyway, Retsuko can *barely* cope with the job she has, you thinking she’d been any sort of good leader, when she frequently cracks under pressure, gets in over her head and needs her ungrateful butt saving on a regular basis, is the funniest thing I’ve heard this year 🤣🤣🤣
Hey, really sorry about that, I probably shouldn’t have included any season 5 clips until after I give more of a spoiler warning. I wasn’t thinking how that clip would be a spoiler or not, that’s my bad. Thanks for letting me know
Thank you, I’ll be a little more careful next time though, hope to see you around on future videos too, I’m always interested in what people are watching or want to see a future video on too!
what’s with all the haida and retsuko hate 😭 i get why people don’t like him because so much of his personality and time is spent into his love for retsuko when half that time could’ve been spent developing his hobbies and personal life, but he is far from an incel (i mean, inui lol) or a bad guy. i like that they’re together at the end. i really wish we had more romantic scenes between them to show more chemistry, but i think they purposely didn’t include that. they probably wanted to show, based on the show ending exactly the way it started, that retsuko actually doesn’t mind a monotonous simple life, and that she wants a normal guy that loves her like haida and that they don’t need to have big gestures or very grand romance in order to have a happy relationship. it fits well with the monotony aspect. still, i wish we could’ve seen 2-3 scenes of them more obviously in love, maybe even a small wedding ?
Yeah I agree, a little more would have been nice, but I like haida and find him relatable, I think he just comes off as creepy and too persistent to some people
Most of the haters are clueless smucks who either don't get how the show is suppose to operate as opposed to their fantasies, were shipping Haida with someone else and are pissed off their fanfic didn't become canon, or intentionally ignore context just to hate on an average joe with simple goals. As if this show is supposed to be some superhero crap, adventure/action genre, or epic fable, they need to grow the f@%k up.
Basically, the characters you’re supposed to hate in this show end up become the ones you love the most. Ton, Anai, Tsunoda, I’d even include Kabae (not because she was ever hatable but because I didn’t think she was ever supposed to be as good as she was). I actually wanted to give Tsubone a hug during season 4 after she saw all that was happening in the company. But, Ton? Easily one of the MVPs of Aggretsuko.
I don’t think he’s creepy but he definitely rubs a lot of people the wrong way, maybe partially because of how much he pursues Retsuko through the show, or lines like “I love the idealized version of you in my head”, he’s very push and pull
@@Colby2D Haida is a guy who seems to go back and forth as a character. I wouldn’t say he’s a bad character (I’d dare call him relatable at points), but he probably could be a little better.

Retsuko and Haida have more chemistry with every other character they interact with than they have with each other.
Yeah it’s a bit odd haha
I mean let's be honest haida could've been with either donkey boy or inui if the writers didn't focused on them instead of retsuko and haida
@@khaliyahjefferson832 possibly also Anai
@@user-Tod-The-Toadster yeah like you can't tell he isn't bi like I would have been fine with that but no they pushed this retsuko x haida ship so far
Even the little that he interacts with Tadano has more chemistry than with Retsuko
Season 4 was basically character assassination for Haida, I hate it.
Yeahh, I do feel like they kinda artificially push him back a few steps everytime he has progress haha

Yeah season 3 was pretty great I always appreciate how she took matters into her own hands both on stage and behind the scenes
@@Colby2D yeah, in here she started to be less of a doormat, a pushover
seasons 4 and 5 are honestly so forgettable to me :/ and not gonna lie, season 3 scared the crap out of me having just moved away to college 😵💫 seasons 1 and 2 will always win me over with their relatability and charm :)
Season 3 is definitely a bit scary, but I do really like the conclusion with Haida assuring her they’ll take things on together. Thanks for watching!
@@Colby2D YES absolutely, and i like that she kinda pushed him back after his tough love bit!! they weren’t scared to hurt each other’s feelings by going a little far, and that felt really real
The whole Resaske stuff feels like a jab at the old "these two characters look like each other so they're meant to be" design trope
That’s funny, I definitely felt that when watching season 1, I guess when she’s the main character it feels more odd for her to have someone look like her than kabae and her husband who are the exact same except for a little stubble haha
Imagine if they made an epilogue 5 episode season
Focused on retsuko and haida's wedding
Fenneko, tadano, kabae, anai, ton, and etc
Fingers crossed still :]
YES They HAVE to!!! S5 was just rushed and lackluster, it really didn't feel like a final season at all😅🥲
7:30 This part of the season 4 is to demonstrate that Haida no longer jealous to the close relationship between Retsuko and Tadano, which is a character development of Haida.
Thanks very much! And the background music is always tough choices but I try to pick bossa nova game OSTs haha. Thanks for watching :]
great vid! deserves a song list. especially the one at 2:30
I remember the Christmas special hitting different at the time that it dropped cause as you said we didn’t know if we were getting more aggretsuko. So getting an actual continuation of the story (even tho it was a little) in addition to just more bs’ing around was super fun to just have dropped out of no where.
Also yes season 2 really was the best DAYUM
Yeah I would have totally forgotten the significance of the special if you hadn’t pointed that out before, but I still love Neo Yokio’s
That’s a good point about Tadano, I think it makes a lot of sense he just wasn’t truly listening to her before
Underrated comment, definitely agree that Retsuko's wedding shouldve been more grandious exactly for the reasons youve stated! 😤👍

Ugh, seriously! I'm glad I'm not the only one who feels that way about Haida. He's the prime example of what it means to be a simp/incel.
I don’t mind Haida, I like Tadano a lot more, but I can totally see why you hate haida he has some very annoying moments throughout the whole show

@@Colby2D lol welcome to daily Asians life
Don't feel bad about missing the context of what was said in the hospital lol, I have no idea why Netflix doesn't include it in chronological order with the rest of the series when it has crucial story details in it.
Thanks for your comment! I’d love to see your insights on future videos too! Have a good one :]
Oh man no way I assumed you had a bunch of subs!! Love your videos :>

I won't lie I kinda fell asleep on season 4 it was so boring
@@khaliyahjefferson832 dude nobody would blame it's insufferable for sure
Did you know there was a Christmas special tho
This is a Wendy’s pull up to the window
Thank you for the awesome video! I wish season 5 had more of a focus on Retsuko herself, so her character arc ended on a more satisfying note. I think season 2 is my favorite!
(What is the song playing during the season 3 segment? It sounds so familiar but I can’t place it!)
Thank you! And it’s “Sacrifice” from Pokémon Mystery Dungeon 2 !
To find out he married her in the end honestly sickened me 🤬🤬🤬
@@LadyLeomon Repeatedly used and dropped him when it suited her?... What?
@@bio-weaponn5576 she has repeatedly and frequently used Haida, heck all her friends to some degree but mainly Haida. Had he said yes to her proposal in Season 1 she would have quit that day! I was gonna count her needing saving with the Anae thing but that one I can let go cos Anae was a straight-up psycho who any normal person would have reported (hell she was already besties with Washimi at that point so why didn’t she?), anyway:
During the whole idol thing she *never* told her “friends” what was going on until it all blew up.
I've gotta say that my ranking would be:
1. Season 1
2. Season 2
3. Season 5 (felt more like a S4, but I'm pretending it doesn't exist 💀).
4. Season 3
5. Season 4
What made me upset about Season 5 is that the conclusion raises SO MANY questions for me:
@@Colby2D Oh, I see! Well then, that explains everything! You're right. Good point! And thank you for making the video! B)
Hmm those questions would actually make for a good set up for a short epilogue season or something.
I'd personally rank them like this, from least to best:
6. Season 4
5. Christmas Special
4. Season 3
3. Season 5
2. Season 1
1. Season 2
This may just be recency bias or controversial, but I actually thought Season 5 was the best the show had been overall since Season 2, and was a pretty good, though not amazing, way to end the series.
Thanks for watching :]
king plz talk about neo yokio I would love to hear your thoughts
Yessss agreed
"the show cant hurt me anymore" LMAO yuuuup
I like how it's linear or goes in order as far as story is told, but based on ranking the seasons..🥲😹 I go with the same rank list as shown on video. Season 3 though, the part where Retsuko gets attack by the stalker fan..🙀😿 Dramatic🤯
Yeahh season 3 was originally going to be my third place and season 1 was going to be second, but the ending of 3 just had a lot more happening to me.
Wow nearly same opinion. But season 3 is 1st for me, the otm girls story was just amazing.
Haida and retsuko should’ve never ended up together
The fact they threw together some half assed scene with marriage paperwork being filled out proves the showrunners didn’t think so either, but they just settled because they wrote themselves into a corner and gave up
I wouldn’t be surprised if they felt they had to fit things into the last remaining 10-15 minutes, but I think they showed haida and retsuko together too much throughout the entire show where there would be a lot of people disappointed if they weren’t together at the end.
Retsuko and Haida just aren’t believable as a couple.
You have one that’s an Alpha overflowing with testosterone, and the other one is Haida.
Alpha? She screws up multiple times throughout the series, hides at home after being nearly stabbed, and has to be encouraged by others to even use her metal voice against adversaries.
Haida actually starts taking up some of Retsuko's traits around season 5, if not earlier.
1. season 3. no questions asked.
season 1 6/10 was ok, season 2 5/10 did not like it least good, season 3 5/10 surreal but ok , Season 4 I loved it 7/10, season 8 it was awesome finally a good ending to tie all seasons. 8/10
That’s interesting, I’m glad you liked the later seasons, thanks for sharing🙂
Season 5 was an improvement to seaspn 4 just my opinion
Pretty sure there's a difference between "being comfortable" and having literally no kind of romantic bond with someone
@@tinystalker1821 Honestly, this is more your opinion of "how romantic relationships should be" according to you.
@@Aural4444 No, as someone who does agree in chemistry and comfort, Haida and Retsuko were downright boring towards the end, and skipping vitally important moments for a rushed political subplot is just poor planning. Basically, we missed a lot of the more important steps of Haida and Retsuko's relationship in favor of having them regress back and forth for as long as possible for the 'will they won't they' subplot, and then it just ended with, "Oh yeah, they're married now."
I think you might be biased because you like the ship.
Thanks for your comment and for watching, I really appreciate it
For me I would rank it as
5: season 4
4: season 1
3: season 2
2: season 5
1: season 3
I haven't seen the Christmas one yet
Nice! I’ve always thought seasons 4 and 5 are pretty similar, whether you love or hate them, but you have an interesting list! Thanks for watching :]
@@Colby2D season 5 felt a lot more enjoyable then season 4 to me. It also has my favorite character, Shikabane
Yeah shikabane was super cool. I could see her getting her own show
Haida X Retsuko felt so forced and soulless.
Even from the things they have in common, I don’t think they even share the music in common, that was more Inui
So basically let Retsuko get stabbed to death... ok.
@@bio-weaponn5576 Nobody said let her die, Haida just needed to stop simping for her.
Good vid 🤌
Thank you🥺
The thumbnail is killing me, that thumbnail is Haida in season 4 in a nutshell 😭😭
If I was there things would’ve been different lol. Thanks for watching:]
First
You will get a first medal someday, thank you
Season 0ne to three in that order seas0n five the christmas special and season 4
I think that’s a pretty good order, if anything I might guess that would be the most common, for good reason!
Haida should have been with Inui.
ua-cam.com/video/Eno9cojhOHQ/v-deo.html
I generally chalk it up to them trying to find a silver lining and help her despite the trauma, but a lot of it rubbed me the wrong way too, like when she was in her room and they were saying “if she doesn’t go back to work they’ll fire her” it’s realistic but upsetting in a weird way to me
I noticed that everyone who hates Haida for that always tends to ignore the fact that Washimi and Gori were also involved in that and what the whole general point of what Haida was trying to do.
for me the best seasons of Aggretsuko are from seasons 1 2 and 3 and Season 4 was a disappointment and Season 5 was a let down with a mediocre ending
Yeah the first few seasons are definitely in a league of their own
Honestly Season 5 was the most disappointing.
But back to my main issue: Retsuko was just NOT a good friend, to *any* of her ‘friends’ throughout the majority of the show, including Haida ... finding out he *married her* in the end honestly made me angry I wasted all this time on the show 🤬🤬🤬
Thanks for the review Colby (glad I wasn’t the only one disappointed) 💙🐱💙
@@LadyLeomon
A. Retsuko didn't want to run for office, but Masuo Ikari kept pressuring her into it.
B. Retsuko herself knows that she had no business running for office and tried to get out of it multiple times.
C. Masuo Ikari and her close friends gave her some crash courses in politics and lessons on how to win an election.
D. Haida was the one who convinced HER to marry HIM after almost hit by a truck.
E. Retsuko endes up losing the race because of some rigged voting standards regarding people's living arrangements (rahter or not they had an actual home).
This isn't some leftist girl power properganda series and Retsuko isn't some Mary Sue. Watch the freaking season.
@@bio-weaponn5576 nah I’m good, the last Season killed my interest when they made Haida into the main villain’s henchman solely because he was the only employee competent enough to do it.
Anyway, Retsuko can *barely* cope with the job she has, you thinking she’d been any sort of good leader, when she frequently cracks under pressure, gets in over her head and needs her ungrateful butt saving on a regular basis, is the funniest thing I’ve heard this year 🤣🤣🤣
DUDE, YOU HAVE TO PUT A ''SPOILER ALERT'' ON THE TITLE OR AT THE BEGIN OF THE VIDEO. WITH THE FIRST 12 SECONDS I GOT SPOILED A LOT. :'/

@@sliverspeck9890 Ye u right, my bad

Season 5 was Stier but season 4 was garbage
That is interesting I feel a lot of people fell similarly about them whether they love or hate them
what’s with all the haida and retsuko hate 😭 i get why people don’t like him because so much of his personality and time is spent into his love for retsuko when half that time could’ve been spent developing his hobbies and personal life, but he is far from an incel (i mean, inui lol) or a bad guy. i like that they’re together at the end. i really wish we had more romantic scenes between them to show more chemistry, but i think they purposely didn’t include that.
they probably wanted to show, based on the show ending exactly the way it started, that retsuko actually doesn’t mind a monotonous simple life, and that she wants a normal guy that loves her like haida and that they don’t need to have big gestures or very grand romance in order to have a happy relationship. it fits well with the monotony aspect. still, i wish we could’ve seen 2-3 scenes of them more obviously in love, maybe even a small wedding ?
Yeah I agree, a little more would have been nice, but I like haida and find him relatable, I think he just comes off as creepy and too persistent to some people
it’s so nice you reply to all the comments 😭
I’m just happy to have people comment and hear what people have to say haha, thanks for your comment I hope to see you around! :]
I liked S4 cause we got a lot of Ton love and I already hated Haida sooooo
Ton has a great redemption arc haha
Basically, the characters you’re supposed to hate in this show end up become the ones you love the most. Ton, Anai, Tsunoda, I’d even include Kabae (not because she was ever hatable but because I didn’t think she was ever supposed to be as good as she was). I actually wanted to give Tsubone a hug during season 4 after she saw all that was happening in the company. But, Ton? Easily one of the MVPs of Aggretsuko.
I guess to hell with the character that literally saved lives in the show.
Who the hell would think Haida is creepy(ノω\|||) He is just an average straight guy.
I don’t think he’s creepy but he definitely rubs a lot of people the wrong way, maybe partially because of how much he pursues Retsuko through the show, or lines like “I love the idealized version of you in my head”, he’s very push and pull
@@Colby2D
Haida is a guy who seems to go back and forth as a character. I wouldn’t say he’s a bad character (I’d dare call him relatable at points), but he probably could be a little better.
Creepy guys don't go taking on a stab happy psychopath and a backward coming truck for someone.
