Ben & Ben’s songs belong to the more traditional OPM (Original Pilipino Music) but with a more modern/western folk pop influence. They’re the most popular recording artist in the country right now and this was a dream collab for SB19 b/c they look up to B&B. Beside them, SB19 appears ‘alternative’ and as an A’TIN I love it that way. 😊 SB19 is totally genre-bending. Right now, ‘Mapa’ and Go Up’ are favourite graduation songs in schools. Gento is played everywhere. So hard to escape SB19 😂 Jealous husbands and boyfriends already gave in and became fan boys! 😅

I believe this arrangement was done by Ben&Ben's keyboardist and electric guitarist - they're an indie-folk band so the arrangement reflects that (a bit jazzy/indie-pop). Before I learned about SB19, I was a huge listener of Ben&Ben - love all their songs! They're pretty much like SB19 - they write amazing songs and are exceptional musicians - except they play instruments and don't dance. So this collab is a dream for fans of both groups! MAPA is very close to Ken's heart and he always sings his part wholeheartedly and full of emotion bec he dedicates the song to his grandparents, esp to his grandmother, who brought him up but unfortunately passed away just right before MAPA was released.
There are actually 2 collaborations. The 2nd one is more intensed and the boys's story was Ben & Ben left them in a room and were told to write their own rap verses for the song Kapangyarihan. Pablo wrote them in a matter of minutes for they were eager to socialize with their idols.😂 Anyway, the result was gold.

So when this collab came out, SB19 fans/A'tin were so happy that SB19 was able to collab with one of the biggest names in music in the Philippines. Plus, the collab version is 🔥🔥🔥
My absolute favorite Ben & Ben song is "Ride Home" for a lot of complicated personal reasons. Their other collab with SB19 (a revised version of Ben & Ben's song "Kapangyarihan") is a really good, powerful political protest song. Some of the elements of this version of "Mapa" got incorporated back into SB19's later performances of it (frex check out the Wish Bus USA "Mapa" performance; the stronger way Josh sings his verse in it is directly inspired by the way that verse was sung here).
It was said that they did this in one take just like this. This is already good as it is. But all of them wanted to repeat the performance again because they think there's still lacking eventhough the director said that they caught it good on camera.

Pablo said in an interview that he had this collaboration in mind when he wrote this song. I believe he gave the brothers full rain to create the arrangement. My two favorite Ben&Ben songs are Ride Home and Leaves. The MV/ Lyric videos are my favorite but they also did these songs on the Wish bus. Did you see the new collaboration with JVKE yet? It's really good and JVKE also has a short showing how he chose them for the collaboration.
I agree with you. There are great artists solo or group act. But there is something magical about SB19. Energy resonates may it be in the videos or live in flesh. I had the very blessed opportunity to see them just a foot away, and their energy and charisma is just natural. Genuine and humble people. Seeing them on stage live is another experience. Ben & Ben are 2 twins and their friends who became the best indie folk band in the Philippines. They helped me get through the pandemic with their soulful songs. They are the elite when it comes to composing their own songs. Try listening to the series of their beautiful songs they performed live on Wish Bus. All their songs are just sooo good! They sound better live as you can hear all the instruments and raw vocals.
SBEN19 MAPA. What a collaboration!!! SB19 was gracious enough to give Ben&Ben a free hand in rearranging the song, while staying true to their collaborative vision. The result is nothing short of stunning. Fun fact: the performance was shot at the historic Manila Metropolitan Theater, and they were the first artists to grace the iconic venue after 6 years of extensive restoration. They shot this in one take. They were that good. One more collaboration worth watching is Kapangyarihan, a very timely political stand during the 2022 national elections.
Great video! Ben&Ben was my intro to rediscovering Filipino music. They are indie-folk band but they definitely have rock / alt / acoustic sounds as well. Their last album Pebble House vol 1 have great songs. I would recommend: - Leaves. It is a beautiful song about forgiveness - Sabel (ft. KZ Tandingan). It is a woman empowerment song (+ more depending on how you interpret it) - Lunod (ft. Juan Karlos and Zild) about mental health - Panindigan Kita which is a love song about standing by your loved one. There is an English version as well with an Indonesian Artist named Pamungkas - Langyang Pag-Ibig which is an angry break-up song which also has an English version - Ilang Tulog Na Lang, which is a sweet love song as well - and Kapangyarihan ft. SB19 because you are an SB19 fan. It isn't something I listen to all the time but it is a very powerful song about people in power. Their MVs / lyric videos should have English subs
