I totally agree. My mom dragged me from one courthouse basement to another, over multiple states, looking through archived records for family info. when I was a kid. And I was sooo bored! Now that I’m older and doing my own investigating, I love it! I am so sad I didn’t write down more info. while eavesdropping when I was a kid. Lol. So much interesting family gossip was chatted about at the Thanksgiving and Christmas tables and now I just have to rely on my 60 year old memory to recall all the stories I heard. Ask your elders questions and write their answers down. You will be so glad you did.
So true! I grew up in Indiana and moved to Japan. I always wanted to get away from Indiana and had no pride in it, until I learned about one line of my family that has lived in Indiana since the late 1820s! And I’m still uncovering there stories, but to learn why they moved to Indiana was fascinating. Most of all, they give me courage and strength thinking about how they had to ride cover wagons from NC/VA in the 1700s and the danger and perils they must have faced❤
On my mother side there been a family reunion that we been attending for over 80 years. For year there aways been a block with the George and phoebe Jane.. But with modern technology it was stated george father was george and mother was American Indian or black person common name. When ask some of the elder we were shutdown.
I saw your video on finding women ancestors maiden names, but I have a problem thats the other way around, i am looking for my 5th great grandathers sisters. I know their first names and maiden names, but i cant find their married names!!! How can i do this? (Virginia early 1800s)
I'm definitely sharing this with my children who so far haven't shown much interest. Thank you Aimee!

For me it's the detective work... a hanging, a witch, a warrior - thanks Amy, for reminding us how important it is to be thankful for family!
You bet!

Marriage records are the best option. Check the county on FamilySearch. Good luck!
