Loved this film back in the day.. good snapshot of the early 90’s Gen X times and as far as the soundtrack goes it’s one of the best ever.. still put it on from time to time cause it’s like a music time capsule.

I have lived in Seattle my whole life and worked at a local Tower Records during the grunge heyday. This soundtrack album was MASSIVE. I still have all the record company promo swag, which is probably worth a fortune now. I currently live 2 blocks south of the Singles apartment building- on 19th Avenue. Amusingly, several years ago, some clown scored a TV/VCR combo at a charity shop- which happened to have a VHS tape of Singles still inside its front-loading slot. He envisioned hosting a Singles VHS viewing party on the front steps of the Singles apartment building… the Facebook event invite went viral, and soon there were several thousand signed up. Thousands of locals crammed around a 26” CRT. The residents at Coryell Ct. apartments were NOT amused. Suggestions of a projected screening in the adjacent playfield were immediately rejected. The whole point of it was VHS+CRT+Singles@Singles Apartment. How 1992! Long story short, the Coryell Apt residents threw a fit, the logistics of redirecting traffic to accommodate the crowd, plus a bunch of grumpy whiners, meant it wouldn’t happen after all. I thought it was a genius idea, and was sad it never happened. Perhaps its 30th anniversary will reignite that flame.

@@cineXplorers you bet. If you want to get really grungy, look up the Rathouse and the documentary about Mia Zapata and The Gits. That’s right next door to me. It’s all fancy and restored now, worth 1.5 mil, easily (of course).
Loved your review of Babylon. It’s my new favorite movie. Such a treasure. It’s fascinating to hear others’ interpretations of it.

I love this film & the brilliant soundtrack. Perfect cast, and if I'm correct an earlier role for Paul Giamatti who's kissing a girl in a bar/cafe

I was talking to a music guy from Marilyn Manson and I said, you know when grunge started there was this song I went out and got a CD player so I could hear it, it was so good it says this " it's in your face but you can't grab it" and there's a poor goldfish in the video for it. You know..he said no I don't know who you are taking about. I said oh gosh what's the name of that band? In the 90s? I was stumped. I hung up... I like your t- shirt FAITH NO MORE!!

I had a mini interest of watching these types of movies back in the 90s (a break from constantly renting horror) such as Singles, Reality Bites, Empire Records, Dazed & Confused, & of course Kevin Smith films on VHS.
There is a 2 compact disc deluxe edition of the soundtrack featuring Citizen Dog, Chris Cornell, Mudhoney etc.
That Faith No More T-shirt for some reason reminds me of the title sequence from EastEnders.

I think I was much the same, they were a nice relief to all the horror and the soundtracks were good.
And yes, that particular FNM shirt is based on the Eastenders titles as it’s from their Uk tour from a few years back. - J.

I think the character played by Campbell Scott probably secretly liked Michael Bolton and Jon Secada and Richard Marx but stomached the grunge scene because he wanted to appear cool.

What planet were you on?! Empire Records, Clueless, 10 Things I Hate About You... just to name a few. And, as someone who was a 20-something from '93 - '99, I can say speak for yourself about nobody caring, dude.

Hated this movie. Was 15 when Grunge exploded and was hoping for a coming of age teen movie. No one cared about 20 somethings during the grunge era. This move had great music and guest appearances that’s it. It bothers me is Younger Gen X never had a coming of age teen movie.
