Anchored on reaffirming the five-decade long robust relations of the Philippines and Singapore, President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. warmly received President Tharman Shanmugaratnam at Malacañan Palace as the Singaporean Head of State commenced his first state visit to the country from August 15-17, 2024.
President Marcos Jr. is expected to discuss various matters with President Shanmugaratnam that will create more opportunities to strengthen cooperation on a wide range of common interests. During the visit, the two leaders will further elevate existing bilateral and multilateral ties through the signing of several Memoranda of Understanding (MOUs).
These include energy cooperation, healthcare, welfare of overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) and collaboration on climate change financing, among others.
President Shanmugaratnam’s state visit coincided with the commemoration of the 55th anniversary of diplomatic ties between the Philippines and Singapore this year, which was formally established on May 16, 1969.
