Anyway, he and a group of players gave all us fans there autographs and didn't disregard anyone. Got autos from him, Carlos Bearga, Kenny Lofton, Jim Thome, Sandy Alomar, Jr. and a couple other players. I thought it was a pretty good experience. • @tonyhill1141
      @tonyhill1141 10 місяців тому +1

      That’s true in the same way as Poe but there are many well documented incidents with contemporary accounts that support it wasn’t just competitiveness that fueled his anger. He stabbed a black man for trying to shake his hand. MLB paid this man off so he wouldn’t push that story. Cobb much later regretted that encounter though he never believed black people were equal.

    • @tonyhill1141
      @tonyhill1141 10 місяців тому +1

      Rogers Hornsby was what we would call today a locker room cancer. His talent was undeniable but teamwork is critical in baseball. The best example is he was run out of St Louis though he helped deliver a title and was an MVP. He went to the Cubs and earned another MVP and to this day has the record for most hits in a season with both clubs. But if you read papers from that era there is often a subtext of teammates not liking him for his intensity and belittling style. He spent off seasons typically alone in a hunting cabin. He just didn’t like people much and his outbursts are well documented.

    Hi, how's it going?
    With 2004 being the last year, for the Expos in Montreal, I'm getting back in to baseball and for the 20th anniversary. I'm looking to personally thank anyone, who helps keep their memory alive.
    Many people don't realise how badly we were screwed over by MLB. I won't get into the details, as they are all available online, to the curious fan.
    Unfortunately it was tougher in the 80's, so I collected Baseball cards, read books and asked relatives, what happened to the Brooklyn Dodgers. Why did Washington D.C. lose 2 teams and what it was like, when Jackie Robinson played his first Proffessional year, with The Montreal Royals!
    The thing I want people to know the most, is that we loved our team! It may not have shown, in the last few years but the low attendance was a form of protest, which started after the strike.
    Enough about the past, With the new season under way, I would like every fan to take a second, close your eyes and think about what it would be like, to spend the time of Spring training, remembering what used to be, instead of looking forward to what the new season could bring!
    Thank you for mentioning our best and worst year
    1994. What could have been for the entire league, not just 1 team.
    Cheers from Montreal Quebec Canada and Merci Beaucoup :)

    Just goes to show that writers shouldn't be allowed to vote for shit. There should be some type of point system to select MVP's in all sports. Writers like the smell of their own shit. I once heard Stephen A Smith say that without the sports media the players wouldn't be nothing, no Stephen A Snitch, without the players the sports media would be nothing. Sports media gets paid off of talking about the players. The players don't need the sports media to play the game

    Belle did put up some damn GOOD numbers for a short period of time. 12 years in baseball is a very short career. if Ralph Kiner can get in with his numbers, Belle should be able to get in with his. regardless of the time, era...someone please tell me. why are women reporters/Hanna Storm, allowed in men's clubhouses anyway??? I am sure this was the reason Belle was upset.

    • @jeffgreen7499
      @jeffgreen7499 10 місяців тому

      Belle was still very good and not old when he developed arthritis in his hips. He was hurting and running was too difficult for him anymore, he still could hit, he batted in 103 runs that last season. His teammates said he was trying his best but they could see that he was struggling. He was a great hitter for a few years, in his prime I thought he was the most awesome hitter the Cleveland Indians I'd ever seen play for the team. He had issues, he has been reported that he was Bipolar. Perhaps that is so, he was certainly a very intense player. Example: They didn't think he could run, then it went out and stole 23 bases. They thought he was a bad fielder, he worked on that, and proved he could a good job in leftfield. I never read that anybody thought he couldn't throw, he had a good arm. I did read that his former college coachs were amazed at his success, then never thought he would be a top player. But Albert had drive, it was his intensity that propelled him. That can make the difference for an individual becoming an average player, above average player, or a great player.
