@@carolinepalmer5821 aww, but I love the lyrics so much. Definitely one of my favorites - the back and forth monologue from the one night stand to the wife and back to the one night stand. It just has this “closing time” mood of loneliness that I can imagine touring must have felt like.
@@ItsVictoriaG Yeah, do you mind explaining what the song is about. I thought it was about a one night stand, but you know how Brian is a private man and doesn't give a lot of answers away to his songs. I think he had some relationships while on tour, but he rarely admits it. I would love to understand how loneness led to a one night stand, but then made a bandmate even lonelier. idk You seem super passionate about the song so any insight would be awesome, go for it >
@@carolinepalmer5821 We know that all four of the guys weren’t perfect angels; they’ve admitted that. So in my mind, at least from the perspective of the song, that means cheating physically but not emotionally. There are three verses and everyone interprets songs differently. But the way I see it is that each verse is a different night. The first and third verses are one night stands on tour, and the second verse is when the protagonist is at home with their spouse. Verse one: he straight up sings that he’s with this girl who’s throwing around “I love you” in the throes of passion, obviously mistaking lust for love. Because he doesn’t even know her name and she’s in love with the /idea/ of him, of this rockstar persona. He knows that he doesn’t really love her, but he can imagine himself getting carried away and saying “I love you” in the heat of the moment, too. But if he does... he knows he only has his lack of self-control in the moment to blame. But he’s so lonely and isolated, (travel, perform, sleep, repeat) he imagines a universe where he actually could fall in love with this stranger, in a simpler world. And then he’s “bleeding inside” with guilt, because he realizes that it’s only a fantasy and he actually just hopped into bed with her because she wanted him and GOD, did it boost his ego to feel wanted. And God, did it feel good to not go back to an empty hotel room, alone with his thoughts about how he can’t be with his family. The first “it’s late, it’s late, it’s late, but not too late” isn’t the protagonist talking. It’s the nameless girl speaking while he’s in this post-coital state of regret and numbness. Is she speaking to him, offering to be with him no matter the cost? Or is she speaking to herself and he overhears her own self-doubt? I don’t know. Then the second verse, the protagonist is back with their spouse, “the sweetest love around.” But the more he tries to keep it together, to keep touring and earning a living while also staying faithful, the more he fails. The harder he works, the more it’s likely to happen again and the more he “lets [her] down.” But the wife can’t do this anymore, she can’t handle the tours and the cheating and the merry-go-round of having a husband and father to the kids and then being a single mom for 6 months and knowing her husband is unfaithful all the while. This time, the protagonist is saying, “it’s late, it’s late, it’s late, but not too late.” He knows he cheated and lived the rockstar life of excess one too many times, but he’s also begging his wife to stay together, that it’s not too late for their relationship and for him to change. (“I’ve been wrong but I’ll learn to be right.”) So did the wife keep him? Or was it too late for our dear protagonist? Into the third verse, we’re on the next tour. The protagonist is staving off the loneliness of everyone knowing who you are but essentially being trapped by your fame, relegated to the hotel room and the arena. So he falls into the same routine even though he said he would change. Another performance, another one night stand. But this time, the woman isn’t deluded into thinking she can be with the protagonist. She knows they’re from different worlds and he has his own life. And the media exists; she knows that he’s technically a family man. (“What game are you playing?”) And the protagonist is unable to respond because he knows she has him all figured out. Unlike with the first nameless girl, this girl’s honestly doesn’t allow the protagonist to ignore the promises he made to his family back home in exchange for a brief ego boost and companionship. She has him facing his life choices. (“You make me wonder, did I live my life right?”) But the protagonist knows that it’s basically over with his wife regardless, hence “time to set [him] free.” Then there’s the fire metaphor for passion and lust, only to be exchanged for guilt once the metaphorical water of the morning after extinguishes the lust. And then the lyrics circle back to “it’s late, it’s late, it’s late” But this time, there’s finality: “it’s all too late.” And the protagonist, in his desperation to not be lonely, is left utterly alone. But please don’t take my word as Gospel truth; it’s just my interpretation. The lyrics just paint such a VIVID picture in my mind, and the lazy rhythm adds to that morning after haze and shame. And the way the repetition/symmetry of the lyrics across the verses is broken at the end, when it’s suddenly “all too late” instead of “not too late” - it hits me hard. So many feels.

Agree, he is not imitating him, and that's great. Because no one can ever be like Freddie, anyway. For me Marc Martel is unwatchable. Yes, the voice is similar, but he is not a performer, not a showman, only an epigon. Who imitates Freddie. Freddie remains no.1 forever, but if we want to hear these songs live, a frontman like Adam's caliber is needed
@@carolhagerty4288 music is subjective, I very much enjoyed the video as it is my favourite Queen song, as I previously stated. I like Led Zeppelin, but I couldn't imagine anyone else singing stairway to heaven . If they did I'd probably make the same remark.
Adam also has the stage presence like Freddie did. Very flamboyant and flashy like Freddie was, especially in the 70’s. He’s a performer. Marc is just some dude who can sing a little like Freddie. And yes I said “a little”. The more I listen to Marc the less I think he sounds like Freddie.
You'll never see Marc sing GET DOWN MAKE LOVE, live on stage. He knows he'll be ostracized and probably excommunicated from his church. Like a cheap reproduction of a real piece of art, Marc is really cheap. He's unknown in the real global music and film industry for at least the last 25 years of his singing career. His last grasp to earn money is mimicking Freddie Mercury. Without Queens songs, he has nothing, couldn't even revive a solo career.
Love this song. Very Zeppelin-esque This rather rare live version is good but it's sorely missing all those amazing drum fills. I feel Roger's a bit rusty on this one.
Yeah he’s an old man and plays like an old man that’s past his prime. His tempo gets a little off and when he tries to do too much with the kick then him and the bass player aren’t exactly tight. It’s not about how good they still are. It’s all about getting to see two members play from one of the greatest bands that ever existed. That’s the experience you go for.
This is actually a QAL performance with Adam. It really doesn’t have anything to do with Freddie. He doesn’t always have to be mentioned on QAL videos. It really makes no sense.
@@carolhagerty4288 Why doesn't it have anything to do with Freddie? Freddie made all those songs better by singing it in the right style. Which Adam still struggles with. LOL

I guess if you haven't heard the original , it is ok. The original has the emotion, the raspiness and the harmonies on the chorus that make it a classic. Heading back to the Maida Vale studio version. Peace.
I feel so bad for being biased but it’s just not the same without Freddie! I know that’s kinda the point, if I enjoy the songs less ughhhh Adam Lambert still has a great voice and stage presence though!
Wow.. Just wow.. Thid song is an absolute peice of art and Adam does it perfectly, I honestly prefer this to Freddie's recording.. Just how much of a genius is Brian May??
This is an awesome song. I hate the lemmings that only know and cheer their mainstream stuff. Real fans know about this and other jewels. And Lambert did as good a job as ANYONE not named Freddy Mercury. Queen is a one of a kind band. Fits under nothing and everything and THAT'S WHY I LOVE IT.
Do you realise this is a 7 year old video you are trolling? Freddie was one of a kind and is irreplaceable, Adam is now the Lead Singer for QAL and he is just as good a frontman for them as FM ever was, Adam is also one of a kind and he is also totally irreplaceable.
He’s a pop star with shoehorned into the role of a rock star. Doesn’t really fit. He’s an Incredible voice, but in the context of this type of music his improvisations and expression just do not sound great
Adam does it better. He sounds better. He sings it better. I’ve heard both, and he is just honestly better. Just because it was “Freddie” doesn’t always mean it was the best. Freddie had no where near the LIVE singing ability that Adam Lambert has.
@@carolhagerty4288 Well, you're kind of correct... if you're only comparing Adam's live voice to Freddie's voice from mainstream concerts (Wembley 86, Hammersmith 75, Montreal 81, Milton Keynes 82, etc). But there's countless audience recorded concerts where Freddie's vocals surpass Adam's

you're a buzzkill dude. Obviously freddie was one of a kind. But people still want queen. And queen still wants to play. So what do you want? a freddie backing track the whole time? If you aren't a fan, get to stepping and let freddie's legacy continue. Because you know what? Adam is one key reason why the music is still thriving. If queen stopped playing, so many younger generations would never experience freddie's voice in the first place. You must be fun at parties!
I prefer Adam singing this. In my opinion, I never found Freddie’s voice to really have a true rock edge. Adam’s voice has that more gritty feel for me.
This version misses nothing but it has much more melody. It's an improvement on the original. And this is Freddie live so you can really buzz off to nonsense land, your land. ua-cam.com/video/dw-m7ZUUE-s/v-deo.html
@@pankakesnotstellar lol, you are completely deaf to tones and melodies. This version actually loses the rage and tone of Blues in the Original, not to mention that Adam doesn't beat the E6 at the end, like in the Original recording.
I think Adam generally does a fine job, but this one definetely doesn't sound convincing with Adam's vocal. Too thin and very far from Freddie's raw and powerful vocal. In this case, I'd say Pink's raspy power vocal could do almost full justice to the original. She has done convincing live covers of Queen a couple of times before, and this ballad is within her range.
Completely disagree.. With everything you said.. There's a big difference between having a "thin" voice and a high pitched voice. Adam is a tenor with a relatively darker timbre and a beautiful tone, something pretty rare for his voice type. And he's the furthest thing from "thin". Pink is OK, she can't do justice to this one though, and she herself admitted Adam is a way better singer than she could ever be.

Watch Adam Lambert singing Nessun Dorma with Queen in the midst of their 2hour concert in Bologna in 2022, and when sang it again live on stage a few months back at J. Hudson Show. Adam Lambert is a classically trained tenor.
Bill Rowse lol... Freddie wished he had half the control Adam has over his vibrato and generally over his voice and in holding the notes... Adam has held out notes for 15+ secs several nights in a row during the EU 2017 tour and it was nothing for him. Lame musically challenged fanbois is the theme here and op is a good example.
Adam Lambert is incredible and perfect for Queen. They have been reignited with Adam as frontman. Look how crazy popular and successful they have become again....with Adam. He deserves much of the credit for that.
Yeah u know what I was turned off when I saw them live with Lambert, guy does to much with his voice. Just sing the song, stop showing off. U got a great voice. That high note he hits is horrible. It's a shame they didn't shine light on Brian's two hand tapping on solo, would have loved to see that
Charles Messina never in his life has Adam Lambert hit a horrible high note live or otherwise... also when you hear him, leave your wishes and pretensions at the door. He will do his version. If you can follow it, good, if you can't also good.
Charles Messina lol.... Yeah Van Gogh was just a painter. Edit : also are you seriously telling the guy filling in for Freddie that he's too over the top?! You're hilarious. 😂😂😂
Martel would be extremely shit at this song as well as Spread Your Wings. That's why he hasn't performed it. If he struggles with Bb4s on Somebody To Love, then he has no chance singing B4s and higher in this song.
How about Marc Martel singing GET DOWN MAKE LOVE live on stage in Arenas and Stadiums followed by 24 to 26 additional Queen songs in their original keys without mimicking Freddie Mercury, at least 3 to 4 successive nights. He was pitiful the last time he sang WWTLF and comedic trying to copy Freddie Mercury's iconic stage moves, he flips and flops like a shrimp pretending to be a lobster 🦞.

@@carolhagerty4288 music is subjective, I very much enjoyed the video as it is my favourite Queen song, as I previously stated. I like Led Zeppelin, but I couldn't imagine anyone else singing stairway to heaven . If they did I'd probably make the same remark.
Brian May !!!
Marc is good, but I'm not sure if they necessary want another Freddie, I actually like Adam
ikr
Adam also has the stage presence like Freddie did. Very flamboyant and flashy like Freddie was, especially in the 70’s. He’s a performer. Marc is just some dude who can sing a little like Freddie. And yes I said “a little”. The more I listen to Marc the less I think he sounds like Freddie.
Marc is like a shrimp pretending to be a lobster 🦞.
BRIAN MAY, ROGER TAYLOR 💋❤️+ ADAN LAMBERT GRACIAS 🤩💪🏼😘
Dios no puedo creer que lo vuelvan a tocar... Me muerooo
Love this song. Very Zeppelin-esque This rather rare live version is good but it's sorely missing all those amazing drum fills. I feel Roger's a bit rusty on this one.
Austin Dyer a bit??😂😂😂
Not to mention he's fucking 70+.....lol. He still does pretty fucking good for an old guy
Freddie, we miss you.
LOL
@@babooshka7601 This is Adam’s style and it’s better than the original.
@@carolhagerty4288 Only in your fanatical head for Adam Lambert. The music is slower and Adam doesn't hit the C6 of the original vocals.
@@silasaraujo2849 Don’t you think I listened to the original? Adam hits his own other high notes that weren’t in the original. He sings it better, it just sounds better. Originals aren’t always nessessarily better.
Brian still plays great solos. Amazing. Most of us have arthritis in our hands at his age.
Freddie is the best
Why can’t some people give Adam credit. Is it so hard without always bringing up Freddie? Adam did a great job, he sounds awesome.
Carol Hagerty so should I say Queen is the best?
@@michaeltang8635 Yeah, maybe you should. Was....and is now.
Carol Hagerty ok haha
Yep, Queen and QAL. Great then....Great now. Definitely no haha
I guess if you haven't heard the original , it is ok. The original has the emotion, the raspiness and the harmonies on the chorus that make it a classic. Heading back to the Maida Vale studio version. Peace.
Heard the original and I honestly prefer this. My opinion
This is Freddie live. Some people are wilfully ignorant.
ua-cam.com/video/dw-m7ZUUE-s/v-deo.html
@@pankakesnotstellar You get a version of the Jazz Tour, the worst tour for Freddie vocally, and he's even better.
@@silasaraujo2849 🤣🤪🤣
Not a big adam fan but holy fuck he was amazing on this my favourite queen song credit where it's due well done lad 👏👏👏
My favorite Queen song. Or, one of them. If Brian just dyed his hair black, he would look the same as he did 40 years ago.
ソプラノ素敵ですね💖
Does not get any better.
Damn, great performance, I wish the vocals would have ended like the track and just cut the rest of the ending
I feel so bad for being biased but it’s just not the same without Freddie! I know that’s kinda the point, if I enjoy the songs less ughhhh
Adam Lambert still has a great voice and stage presence though!
Wow.. Just wow.. Thid song is an absolute peice of art and Adam does it perfectly, I honestly prefer this to Freddie's recording.. Just how much of a genius is Brian May??
This cover completely loses the edge, grit and bluesy feel of the song.
On the contrary, in terms of edgy grit, I like Adam singing this better than Freddie.
You're nuts
This is an awesome song. I hate the lemmings that only know and cheer their mainstream stuff. Real fans know about this and other jewels. And Lambert did as good a job as ANYONE not named Freddy Mercury. Queen is a one of a kind band. Fits under nothing and everything and THAT'S WHY I LOVE IT.
Not a Adam fan but gotta give him credit. This song fits voice not FREDDIE BUT HE
DOES HIM JUSTICE
I always thought he would be a good front man for queen with Freddy passing but his stage presents just doesn't get it
Do you realise this is a 7 year old video you are trolling? Freddie was one of a kind and is irreplaceable, Adam is now the Lead Singer for QAL and he is just as good a frontman for them as FM ever was, Adam is also one of a kind and he is also totally irreplaceable.
Adam sounds great with them... better with Adam than some shit Vegas show featuring their songs...
Poor Adam even with a crummy hair cut he's a Rock & Roll STAR ⭐⭐🎉
He’s a pop star with shoehorned into the role of a rock star. Doesn’t really fit. He’s an Incredible voice, but in the context of this type of music his improvisations and expression just do not sound great
El Sr. Lambert no le llega ni a la dermis de los talones a Freddie.
It seems like most of the audience doesn't know what this song is
No one sings it like freddie there can only be one
@@chewymew hopefully your summation made you feel better. Paul Rodgers is Queens frontman from 2004 to 2008, Adam Lambert is Queens frontman from 2012 to present Queen and Adam Lambert's 2023 NA TOUR starts in October.
Edit: both Adam and Paul are forever part of Queens history and legacy.
you're a buzzkill dude.
The original has a lot of grit, anger and that bluesy rock edge. Unfortunately, this version misses bluesy rock grit.
@@silasaraujo2849 get back to me when Freddie hits live anything worth mentioning and holds it for more than 2 seconds.
@@pankakesnotstellar Agree👍
I think Adam generally does a fine job, but this one definetely doesn't sound convincing with Adam's vocal. Too thin and very far from Freddie's raw and powerful vocal.
In this case, I'd say Pink's raspy power vocal could do almost full justice to the original. She has done convincing live covers of Queen a couple of times before, and this ballad is within her range.
agree
Completely disagree.. With everything you said.. There's a big difference between having a "thin" voice and a high pitched voice. Adam is a tenor with a relatively darker timbre and a beautiful tone, something pretty rare for his voice type. And he's the furthest thing from "thin". Pink is OK, she can't do justice to this one though, and she herself admitted Adam is a way better singer than she could ever be.
Adam is a really good singer, but his voice doesn't fit the song too well
Adam sounds incredible and he sings this beautifully.....perfection.
@@GHENIC Adam Lambert is the best singer ever. Some people have nothing in their skulls.

Watch Adam Lambert singing Nessun Dorma with Queen in the midst of their 2hour concert in Bologna in 2022, and when sang it again live on stage a few months back at J. Hudson Show. Adam Lambert is a classically trained tenor.
Харесвам Куийн с Фреди!
Lambert... I just can't stand his shaky voice...
Leszek Wincenciak you don't have ears if you call that shaky... 😂 😂
Leszek Wincenciak Because Freddy NEVER used excessive vibrato....
They need to do a hologram of Freddy Mercury
They have been on certain songs, BR, LOML, since 2012 to present days. You'll see him again on their 2023 NA TOUR which starts in October.

Charles Messina never in his life has Adam Lambert hit a horrible high note live or otherwise... also when you hear him, leave your wishes and pretensions at the door. He will do his version. If you can follow it, good, if you can't also good.

Freddie was very polite; he never said a bad thing about anyone in all his interviews.
Nina only about press, but its completely understandable
@Stu Casto I think Freddie would have loved Adam’s voice and talent. Brian and Roger said as much and they knew Freddie best.
Great song second only to Fat Bottomed Girls IMO
sorry Adam...
Not sorry, Adam has been the best and most perfect fit for Queen since Freddie.... he is their 21st century frontman and is magnificent
This calls for Marc Martell
No need for a Freddie wannabe when the best singer alive is singing it...oh and Lambert is their final frontman.
Martel would be extremely shit at this song as well as Spread Your Wings. That's why he hasn't performed it. If he struggles with Bb4s on Somebody To Love, then he has no chance singing B4s and higher in this song.
Nothing pertaining to Queen calls for Marc Martel
How about Marc Martel singing GET DOWN MAKE LOVE live on stage in Arenas and Stadiums followed by 24 to 26 additional Queen songs in their original keys without mimicking Freddie Mercury, at least 3 to 4 successive nights. He was pitiful the last time he sang WWTLF and comedic trying to copy Freddie Mercury's iconic stage moves, he flips and flops like a shrimp pretending to be a lobster 🦞.
