Now that the tractor beams works, the Taurus jumped to my go ship for solo VHRT and ERT bounties. It can handle the 32 scu crates and with the tractor beam, I rarely have to leave the bridge.
As of 3.22, do not underestimate this workhorse. Having that tractor turret active means this ship is finally doing what it was meant to, gathering and loading cargo. So what, you might say. Lots of ships do cargo and have a ton more space. True, but Taurus has the best ship tractor placement in the game currently and can actually solo ERTs with its guns (I recommend 4 S4 gimballed cannons, but you can go with 2 fixed S5 on top if you've mastered your aim while flying this bus). As of now, loot from those ERT targets are insane. Gold, quantanium, pleasure eggs, and illegal drugs are packed to the gills in some of those ships, especially the A2 and C2. I've made about 3 million with the loot I found so far just this patch alone, and I know guys that are doing way better than I am with the Taurus just because they have better loot drops. The bounty payouts are just little bonus tips by comparison.
As of last thursday - which saw the release of 3.24 "Cargo Empires" update - the Taurus is probably the best cargo runner you can have especially for the early reputation missions which often have loads of about 10 to 13 8scu containers; the Taurus can lock up to 14 of them on the cargo elevator grid. It can carry more even if you get a little creative. The tractor turret is very useful, being powerful enough to grab and place containers up to 150 meters away, twice the range of the MaxLift tractor beam. I do most of my hauling missions runs with this ship. Excellent choice when playing solo or with a friend. And yes, it still can take some damage as well as dish some out. Despite not being updated and one of the oldest ship series in the game the Constellation series still keeps delivering - literally - good performance. Nice review!
You're a machine, pumping out the content. 🙂 I love this ship, I use it more than my Hercules. One of SC's iconic ships, and that table has been broken for seemingly forever. 😂
This is my Daily and I love it! Strong weapons, a lot of missiles. Easy to fly. Surprisingly maneuverable for it's size, and holds a lot of SCU for the price. Can easily single man it. One thing to note is anytime in not in quantum I have VTOL on. Maybe it's just me but it feels more responsive and easier to maneuver. Nice vid!
I had one for awhile. The shared inventory between servers, the amount of time it takes for the inventory to refresh, the abandoned feel of the ship (maybe one day it'll get fixed up internals), and the struts, were all reasons why I eventually CCU'd away from it. It's a great ship in many ways. It's not that I didn't like the ship itself, it's just marred by some really old lingering game design.
I felt the same way! Man I miss having a Constellation but maybe one day again in the future. There is a redesign video on UA-cam, I liked his thoughts on some changes and omg the cockpit struts pls update.
That's the thing about investments. You don't always get your returns instantly. People who wait will either buy in game or pay a higher price to keep. These ships aren't done increasing in price.... Not by a long shot. Dropping them because they're outdated might prove to be a mistake. I didn't pay under $400 for my A2, Polaris and other $700+ ships by being impatient, lol... Sometimes outdated designs and tech can turn your investment into a cash cow to buy other ships for half the price or better. Just sayin..
For anyone watching this post 3.23, our beloved Strut Bus can now pack all four S5s now that the lower gun mounts have been moved to the top of the bottom nacelles, giving her a ton more bite than ever before. Even with the current price of 200 USD in store, she's still the best bang for your buck out of all the pledge store offerings.
Taurus was king last patch. Swap for all ballistics, and upgrade to 2 size 5's, military shields, and go bounty hunting. Then you have the tractor beam and good storage space.
I love the Taurus. It's been my (mostly) daily driver since I picked it up. It really does need a refresh, though. I'd like to see actual buttons for the elevator and the living accommodations desperately need to be updated.
As a Taurus owner and someone who likes and is convinced there is a niche for this ship to fill, there are a few quirks that it has that leave it short of 9/10. I'll say up front that I would give it something closer to a 6 or 7 out of 10 in it's current state, but I agree that a gold standard pass and a slight rework would easily put it at the 9/10 (10/10 is very, very rare air IMO....) The pros There aren't many ships in the 150 to 400 SCU space. There are 5 to be exact and they are all huge with the Starfarer having just 6 more SCU but 20 times the mass (yes, that mass serves another function). Not many people realize this but of ALL the ships in game, the Taurus has the 8th highest hit points with 100k in shields and the most HP of any cargo ship except the Hull C. Of all the ships in game (and I could be wrong about this), but I think it is the ship with the largest cargo that has VTOL capabilities. And even if I'm wrong, I think it's mass relative to it's cargo could be very, very important when thruster overheating becomes important. I think this single aspect could make the Taurus one of the most valuable cargo ships in the game. High cargo to HP ratio along with a manageable size and VTOL capabilities. Throw in the firepower and large built in tractor beam and you've got a ship that fits a niche that few other come close to. The Cat on the high end and the Freelancer Max at the lower end. Also, the frontal cross section of the ship is by far the smallest save the Caterpillar of all the ship with greater cargo capacity. The cons The window struts are annoying, but could easily be fixed. Another problem is the cargo that extends from each edge of the cargo platform in uneven terrain, though a simple fix to help with that would be small ramps that slide out from each end. The interior needs a rework. The chairs that flank the pilot are useless and need roles. The lack of rear facing guns makes the Taurus venerable while it's on the ground. Would be great to have a smaller sized weapon in the rear to at least protect the cargo while in the wild, not to mention a size 2 or 3 would help cover the ships extremely venerable flanks, especially in the lower rear quadrant. When giving up the snub, the Taurus should get a rear facing remote turret in that same spot which would be a great use of one of the two co-pilot seats. Another problem is that will arise when manual loading of cargo begins is that the cargo grid on the lowered portion of the Taurus is 14 long by 4 wide and 3 tall. That means (2) 32's and (2) 24's will fit with just 4 boxes loaded, something that could be done in less than 2 min in a hanger from the cargo elevator. But that's only 112scu. Now, if you want to take advantage of the other 56SCU that it can hold, you have to load another 28 (2) SCU boxes on top. If you could average 20 seconds loading each box that adds almost 10 minutes and probably even more than that as stacking the 2 SCU boxes on top of the 32's and 24's in the Taurus is tight and makes money earned over time highly inefficient. Probably better off just loading the 112SCU than trying to fit the other 56. Of course, a few people, like myself, know how to stuff (3) 32's and (3) 24's on the Taurus cargo deck, but 1 of each won't be on the cargo grid.
This is, in my opinion, the best, most well-rounded ship in the game. If you had to start with only one ship, this is probably the one to get. It's tanky, has good firepower, a decent amount of cargo room, and the bottom tractor beam is very handy. Other than dedicated PvP, this ship can do it all.
I only flew the taurus for 5 days so far, just purchased it ingame, and I really don't mind the struts at all I do decoupled flight primarily so I fly slightly deckward.
What is the power of that tractor beam and can you tow a ship with it. I am thinking of upgrading my prospector to it because I have an orion that has as a loaner the prospector and mole so do not need two prospectors and if it can fit the 32 scu container I can off load the orion in space so not to risk the orion at station.
considering to buy this with in game currency, but i'm torn between this and the mercury star runner. if you have time can you also do an updated review of the crusader msr. thanks!
The only thing for the MSR is speed. Everything else is worse. Worse guns, less cargo (overfill is around 200), less guns, less shield, way bigger. And to many Doors and you have to get in by the Ramp.
I owned the MSR for over a year with irl money. I never used it. It’s a beautiful ship that has no purpose in the game. Pilot only has two panthers. It’s only got size 2 shields (Taurus has size 3). It’s a data runner with no data running in the game. It’s a scanning ship with no scanning in the game. And it has way too many doors you have to wait for. One way in, one way out. It holds less cargo than the Taurus and has no tractor beams. It’s a paper airplane in terms of durability. In practical terms, it’s Crusader’s worst ship. It was such a constant disappointment every time I flew it that I upgraded it to something else. Corsair I believe. Which is an awesome ship now that they increased the wing bridge hp so the entire ship doesn’t blow up when enemies ram the wings.
this ship has half the HP of all the other connies at 10k when others are all 20k. idk why its so much weaker. id be fine with 15k even but its too squishy.
You fail to note that the Taurus has half the HP of the Andromeda. Big deal. Your videos are very enjoyable but a little thin on detail, I hate to say. Keep it up!
@@EvenLease44 My apologies, though. The Taurus isn't half the hull - I only saw that mentioned a couple of times on the sub and the forums, and ended up repeating it. Less, but not half the HP.

@@durtyred86 I agree, perhaps I could have held onto it and used the increased price toward new ships to get those for cheaper.

It's RSI's design language, struts. Haha. It's a great ship!
Looks like a really nice ship. Defensible cargo transport.
I think so too! Can't wait to see how the Constellation line looks after a rework or gold standard pass!

Curious if this is a better buy than the new Spirit since it also has a tractor beam, good guns, and lower price since it has less cargo room.
If you want a lot more cargo and pilot controlled fire power it’s absolutely the better buy over the c1, if you want to spend more $ out or in game.
What about the Quantum Drive?
Industrial grade c; so efficient, but slow as slow gets. Upgrade it (and the shields, while you're at it).
best price/performance value in the game
