  • LIFE in PERTH is a BEACH!
If you are looking for unique things to do in Perth then head to the Beach! Perth Western Australia has over 124 Kilometre of metropolitan coastline, so whether you are after swimming, snorkelling, fishing, boating, surfing, bodyboarding, walking, or simply having a picnic there is always a beach waiting for you.
This video takes you to some of my favourite inner-city beaches in Perth that are within 30 minutes away from Perth CBD/ and is also accessible by public transport.
    1. Cottesloe Beach (25 minutes away)
Voted Australia's favourite beach in recent years because of its feathery soft blonde sand, aquamarine ocean, grassy parks and nearby restaurants. In March of each year the Cottesloe Beach is transformed into an outdoor gallery of giant art installations at Sculpture by the sea. Admission is free and allows visitors to wander around and immerse in themselves in the impressive art exhibit.
Cottesloe Surf Life Saving Club also patrols the northern side of the beach for 1.5km in the summer months.
For further information including things to see and do please visit
    visitperth.com...
    2. City Beach (15 - 20 minutes away)
Voted Perth's best beach in recent years because of its excellent facilities and is the closest beach from Perth CBD. Ideal for surfing, bodyboarding or simply hanging out and enjoying some of the restaurants overlooking the Indian Ocean. You will find plenty of shady grass areas, making it a popular spot for sunset picnics. There's also a boardwalk, and purpose built groynes for fishing.
For further information please visit visitperth.com...
    3. Trigg Beach (20-25 minutes away)
And if you are into surfing or boogie boarding then Trigg Beach is the right beach for you. This beach is considered the Mecca for surfer due to the consistent break for boarders. The long soft, white sandy beach is very popular amongst locals and provides lots of space for visitors. Trigg Island is also a popular for birdwatching and fishing.
    For further information please visit
    www.westernaus...
    4. Mettam's Pool (25 minutes away)
Named after Frank Mettam, a World War 1 Veteran, Mettam's Pool is a sheltered spot and perfect for snorkelling and swimming where you can see marine plants and animals close to shore. This is perfect for families with kids and best to come in the morning.
    For further information please visit
    visitperth.com...
    5. Hillary's Boat Harbour (30 minutes away)
And if you are not into swimming or snorkelling but still wanted to go to the beach then are other activities for you to enjoy like going to the Aquarium of Western Australia (AQWA) located at Hillary's Boat Harbour where you will discover hundreds of marine species most of which are only found in the Western Australia's unique coastline.
You will find restaurants, cafés, speciality shops, boutiques, a fun park and a marina. There's a safe and calm beach for your children, a playground on the sand, plenty of interesting and quirky shops and a huge selection of eateries including the popular 'The Breakwater'. The harbour is also home to Hillary's Yacht Club and the Rottnest Island fast ferries.

Being born and bred in Perth I've been to all the beaches mentioned and also the other ones along that stretch not mentioned... Port, Leighton, Mosman, Swanborne, Floreat, Scarborough, North, Marmion, Mullaloo, Burns and Quinns beaches. Essentially, they're really all just one great stretch of beach with only the occasional rock outcrop. The distinctions between them is imaginary lines drawn on a map. As a kid, I used to holiday at a beachside caravan park at Mullaloo. Little did I realise that I'd end up raising my kids only about 2km from it. If you love the beach lifestyle then Perth is the place to be. You can jump in a car and head west and you will run into the Indian ocean and finding a beach there couldn't be easier.

Another awesome share Kharissa. Well done 👏🏾 👍🏾 ❤. Obviously I have never been to your neck of the woods but I must confess. I always thought when I saw beaches like yours in magazines or guides that it was enhanced in some way. It wasn't until I visited Australia and the Barrier Reef specifically that I saw how amazing and transparent the water was. Such a pretty bluish green. Anywayz. Loved the beaches featured. The Aquarium looks AMAZING. I didn't realize that you were fluent in French 😮. You continue to impress 👍🏾💯. You look amazing in red by the way 😉. Trigg and Scarborough beaches are the popular ones for surfing. Scarborough has all the hotels, pubs and restaurants. The most built up beach in Perth. Be careful of rips if you aren't a good swimmer. But a beautiful stretch of sand heading north from City Beach and Floreat and all the way to Trigg.

If you go south of City Beach then the coast line basically has hardly any swimmers until you reach Swanbourne and then Cottesloe. Its a wonderful quiet and isolated section of beach for several kilometres with access limited due to the army land. Incredible that such isolated beaches are only 10km from CBD.

The stretches of rocky beaches from Trigg to North Beach/Watermans is an interesting diversion from the sandy beaches. But up at Hillarys is probably one of the better beaches at Sorrento. Its situated just south of Hillarys boat harbour and has the best combination with some waves for interest and variation but largely safe and calm. Then further north Mullaloo is a great option.
But I noticed you were 30 minutes from Perth CBD. But you only just missed timewise Port Beach and Leighton's beach north of Fremantle and South Beach south of Fremantle. These are exceptional really for calm waters and perfect white sand.

Beaches north of Scarborough are the best, especially the little ones protected by reef where snorkelling is great 7:28. City Beach is good for watching the sun set while dining. Trigg for surfing. Mullaloo is tops.

Admittedly, I was talking about the beaches themselves in my post. Cottesloe has gotten harder and harder to park there over the years, but then, that's very much how the elite locals would prefer it, don't you think? Not that I'm saying that's how it is.. oh no... . You can still get there easily enough, though, by catching the train and jumping off at Cottesloe station. Then you can take an average sandgroper stroll through their suburb past all their houses; sometimes decisions made 'in their own interests' can backfire, can't they? ^_^. Still, with so many spectacular beaches to visit, I haven't bothered to do that for decades.
