With the 1988 Avante, the Technigold motor was not included in kits that Tamiya exported for the European/Amaerican markets as I recall. If you bought the kit in Japan, then you were lucky: you got a spanking shiny new Technigold included in the blister pack.
I recall that here in America, you could either get the Avante with the motor or the Avante without one. They were $300 and $260 respectively, and the version with the motor was the first 1/10 scale rc car to break the $300 barrier. It was the “Mercedes” of radio control.
I raced these back in the 80's in the UK, I was lucky to get a pre Egress; Avantee Carbon chassis from the TRF/Boothies as they raced at the same club. Used to go through lots of parts and no need to highlight the shortcomings, they well known. Tended to use Reedy Dots and Parma motors rather than the Dynatech tho. Looking back I wish I went with the Schumacher CATS, gotta be said, so much more competitive, tho at age 13 they were a little advanced for a young en that I was.
Schumacher CAT is extremely cramped in its space; less space than in my Avante. It’s also a pain to change wheels because you have to push the wheel hub against the wheel and get them to engage while holding it all together. (I still love it, though)
I started on stick transmitters and they were okay but as soon as I went over to a steering wheel type my driving improved a hell of a lot and I dont consider myself a great driver either.
TAMIYA Legends; My name is Robert jones can you recommend me a Cheap/reliable wholesaler/Stockist that deals in (Tamiya/kyoshi) remote control cars(My email address) is (rbjns78@icloud.com
aviano72 👋Yes it’s a simple system that just works and does the job. I pick up used receivers off eBay. HobbyWing have a comparably receiver as well. I’ve just finished the 959 project so the Egress is next. Vids coming soon. 👍🏻
How did you find a dual stick transmitter with fancy features? The only dual stick transmitters I could ever find were always bare-basic. It always seemed to me that you had to get a pistol grip transmitter to get any fancy features, like variable-rate steering.
Code 2.4G FHSS LCD 2 stick TXRx CR151. It's old kit but having ten cars on one trans saves on space. You can get much faster kit these days but it works for me.
I prefer sticks on my crawlers. People make fun of me. I just say "I'm sorry that you cannot retrain yourself to use a more precise type of controller." They never have a reply.
Oh boy, old video... Love the Egress!
if you have to pick beetween Egress and Top Force [regular not evo]. which one would you pick? and why

I also have that transmitter, it's just too bad you can't get any more receivers any more.
Anyways it will be fun to see your Egress come alive.
