Think of it like forgetting a word you don't use much in English. You know what it means, if someone else says it you'll remember, but you may need a moment to remember if you haven't seen or heard it recently.

True story: I wanted to comprehend completely what Katya and Trixie said on the show so I worked hard on my listening/understanding of the English language enough to hear it and understand it just as I do on my first one (Portuguese). UNHhhh is truly educational, everyone.

I think it depends on the scenario. I lived in rural Spain and the people there loved when I tried to speak Spanish but in Barcelona or Madrid, they just can’t be bothered and they have no time.
