I just want to say thank you for this song. I'm suffering from compound grief. My sister died (quickly) from cancer in September, and it hit me hard. We were really close. Then my mom died in November, just before Thanksgiving, after having a hip replacement. I was with her when she passed. I had to take care of her final wishes and service. Then my father passed in his home in January, just before my birthday. I found him. I had to do everything from getting him cremated, planning his service, cleaning out his estate, etc. In that 5 month period of time, I also lost two friends (one was in his early 30's) and my aunt. I'm so depressed. I heard this song and immediately connected to it. It's absolutely perfect. So thank you for sharing this. It was even released at the perfect time. As a matter of fact, I even told my mental health counselor about the song. It's absolutely beautiful.
I'm sorry for all your losses so soon. I dealt with it when I was 16 my dad in April and my grandpa in May. I know how bad the grief is. May you find peace. I know it's a heavy feeling. I'm sorry you have to go through it. Find the strength where ever you can!

This song is another amazing one. I sat and thought about the video for a bit, and my interpretation. I think the fluffy character is a representation of Jamal and that everywhere Ed goes, Jamal is there, but not real. He thinks he sees him in everything he looks at. If you notice, at the very end, Ed says "I'm dancing with my" and then the character is gone. Like Jamal. A representation of the fact that Jamal is actually truly gone. A feeling of being alone and the emptiness that comes with it. I'm so sorry for Ed's loss. How devastating. I've not lost a best friend yet, but I've lost many family members. Grief is horrendous. I interpreted it as grief/depression. Him keeping his eyes closed was his way of not wanting to deal with his grief and so it gets bigger and bigger until it consumes him, leading him to dive off into the water. Only when he opened his eyes and faced it was he able to deal with it. And this brings him back around, away from the edge.

When I first heard just a portion of this song, at the initial listen, I thought it was just a routine break-up song, but after taking a closer look at the lyrics and looking up the backstory behind this (and discovering that this is actually about coping with death and grieving), it just hits completely different now. You are such an intuitive singer/songwriter and your songs are full of raw emotion, and evoke the same. My daughter and son-in-law even used your song Perfect for their wedding song, as it really does describe the love they have together (they have been a couple since they were 15, married 5 years yesterday, and now have a beautiful little girl, 2 years old). As much as this song made me cry, I know I need to let it out, and it's so beautiful, even as it is heartwrenching. One year ago I was taken away from my life due to health issues. I am lucky to be here one year later. Oh ed. Losing someone is fckng hell. This just hits deep. I am proud of us for making it up to this day. I lost more than a friend, I lost my mom 4yrs ago and it’s still fresh. Ed is a legend. His songs relate to so many people. When I first heard this song and the meaning behind it, I started to think about my mom when she passed. I saw the whole thing happen. I was so young, I thought life was gonna be terrible. Now that I have seen so many people can relate.
I lost my dad over 2 years ago, out of the blue, impossible to say goodbye as I live in a different country and we were in lockdown, when Ed released Visiting Hours I cried for hours, it was about everything I wished I could do, now, he just put into words everything I have felt, even characterizing what that sadness following you everywhere is.

But in recent years he's made music mainly to please the larger audience which means his music is very much like everything else being produced. It's been over 3 years since my grandma passed away and I wasn't there to say goodbye. Shortly after that, I had to move away from a place I loved and left so many great things behind. Then the pandemic hit and all my plans and dreams got shattered. That's when I started to struggle with depression and suddenly, I was in a really dark place. I've been feeling so lonely and miserable for the past 3 years, seems like nothing works out for me. I'm slowly getting better but the blue monster never really disappears. I just want to say thank you for this song. I'm suffering from compound grief. My sister died (quickly) from cancer in September, and it hit me hard. We were really close. Then my mom died in November, just before Thanksgiving, after having a hip replacement. I was with her when she passed. I had to take care of her final wishes and service. Then my father passed in his home in January, just before my birthday. I found him. I had to do everything from getting him cremated, planning his service, cleaning out his estate, etc. In that 5 month period of time, I also lost two friends (one was in his early 30's) and my aunt. I'm so depressed. I heard this song and immediately connected to it. It's absolutely perfect. So thank you for sharing this. It was even released at the perfect time. As a matter of fact, I even told my mental health counselor about the song. It's absolutely beautiful.

This song is another amazing one. I sat and thought about the video for a bit, and my interpretation. I think the fluffy character is a representation of Jamal and that everywhere Ed goes, Jamal is there, but not real. He thinks he sees him in everything he looks at. If you notice, at the very end, Ed says "I'm dancing with my" and then the character is gone. Like Jamal. A representation of the fact that Jamal is actually truly gone. A feeling of being alone and the emptiness that comes with it. I'm so sorry for Ed's loss. How devastating. I've not lost a best friend yet, but I've lost many family members. Grief is horrendous. my great grandma passed a couple years ago couple months before this song came out. this song was one of the only songs that have ever been relatable to any emotion for me. this is my favorite song of all time.
The reason Ed Sheeran has had so much success is because his music is authentic. He built a loyal fanbase through focusing on his craft, and not being pressured into sounding like other artists. It's been over 3 years since my grandma passed away and I wasn't there to say goodbye. Shortly after that, I had to move away from a place I loved and left so many great things behind. Then the pandemic hit and all my plans and dreams got shattered. That's when I started to struggle with depression and suddenly, I was in a really dark place. I've been feeling so lonely and miserable for the past 3 years, seems like nothing works out for me. I'm slowly getting better but the blue monster never really disappears. Thank you Ed for making songs that people can relate to and help them cope with their struggles!

I lost my Dad just over a year and a half ago, not long before Visiting Hours came out. As sad as it makes me every time I hear it, there's some sort of comfort knowing other people have been though it too - especially someone I look up to. This song is the same.
