    Outstanding job. Your stock is sleek and shows your hard work and dedication. Your dad would be proud of you.

    Well, that’s done. Great feeling of satisfaction when you successfully complete a large job. The little “former bull” calf temporarily trapped in the feeder was comical....like a child wanting extra attention. Yep, like kids running to a backyard pool, they soon found the farm pond! Such a serene scene. Your videos convey peaceful contentment.

    As you said two people work so so much faster than one alone. It is just so much easier. The voice over for this vlog worked extremely well and made life easier for you. Guess you may have included a time lapse as well. And as for the stuck calf there is always one.

    My friend, don't throw shade at voice-overs. Particularly if you have scenes that are stressful and you already have your hands full with your mind on the process, voice-overs give you a chance to say what you want to say while you already have the video "in the can".
    I would much prefer the folks I follow present the best chunks of the raw video they captured versus settling for an iffy clip because there was something verbal they wanted to capture. Also, voice-overs allow you to express those thoughts and observations that just wizzed through your mind at the time you made that particular clip.
    You do really good work, my friend. Don't self-limit your product or your methods; we are all here and sticking with your channel because we think you do good work and are anxious to see where you take us next.

    Ever use pasturegard dewormer (I think that’s what it’s called)? We use it on our weaned calves before we put them out to pasture. It’s 6 month dewormer.

    I guess l got to ask what l am thinking!
    Why done you band your bull calves when there a week old? You should look at the butane dehorner, at 5 days you can normally feel the bud, we have done then up to 2 months if we get busy. No blood or chance of fly's bothering them. It's also really quick, just straddle the calf, pull its head to one side then the other an done!

    • @FarmandHammer
      @FarmandHammer  4 роки тому +1

      I don’t band them at a week old because when it falls off their is an open wound and since they aren’t out on pasture I don’t want one of them to accidentally lay in their manure and cause an infection. I’ve seen some of those butane dehorners but just haven’t pulled the trigger on one yet. I might get one if I get more this fall.

    What shot do you give them for pneumonia?

    How effective is the fly pour if the calves wade into the pond? Will it have been on them long enough to make it worth it?

    • @FarmandHammer
      @FarmandHammer  4 роки тому +1

      Since it gets poured onto the tops of their backs it stays on fine. Most calves won’t wade in the water past their midline so it has plenty of time to soak in.

    That calf in the feed bunk really looks like it could have used another couple of weeks on the milk. Very skinny.

    Cows’ horns are important and you are stupid to remove it .
    Most breeds of cattle naturally develop horns, which continue to grow throughout their lives and contribute to their overall health. Like our fingers, they represent a cow’s individuality, and are far more than simply an appendix to their heads. They are sense organs which not only have a stream of blood flowing through them, as seen when one is damaged or removed, but also are connected to the sinus system of the cow allowing air to also circulate through the bone. They thus make a subtle but important contribution to the well-being of the cow and to the quality of her digestion and metabolism. And, of course, it is the extraordinarily power of the cow’s digestive system to build farm fertility that is the reason that cow manure is so valued
