I’ve had pretty similar experiences too. Grunting from a stand they might respond and come in, but it didn’t happen to me often. Grunting from the ground when I could also rake leaves or thrash a bush around got a much better response. I’ve also seen plenty of videos where other ground hunters add that realism and get great results. But there was just no good way to do that from a tree. I’d read about people tying sticks or brush to heavy fishing line, but that was more time and messing around than I was interested in trying to do.
