- An overview of the function of the Wilkinson bridge - this ingenious design often frustrates users, but once set up is an amazing bit of kit...
Ive seen one of these used in action and by someone who knows how to use it. Looks absolutely incredible. Why there arn't more brands that feature a similar function is crazy.
These are amazing guitars!
I have spent many a fruitless hour attempting to get mine to work properly - I ended up taking the back plate off so its always floating. It would be fabulous if you could follow this up with an in depth instruction video to illustrate exactly how to do it. Yes, I have the leaflet … but I’ve never had it work right. Normal local techs have always fled in fear from it, the only person who ever set it up ok was a PEG employee in the 90s - Rob Williams.
Rob's great and really is a master!
I'll try and add another video showing the approach I take to setting these up.
A full set up video would be much appreciated
So you can't do upward bend flutters? Because for that, the tremolo should be pointing to the right side, but in that position it becomes a fixed bridge. Am I right?
You're sort of right, although you can adjust the rest position so that it would require less of a rotation to get the arm to an unlock position in the opposite direction, but either way there would be an element of compromise
@@guitarsandthings7232a video explaining that would be very useful, if that's not too tricky. However, I have another question. I've seen you can change the tuning when it's on the lock position, but can you change it from E to Eb or any drop tuning and then use the floating bridge normally without having to do any adjustment? I've never owned a guitar with a floating bridge so I'm a little bit confused with these things.
@@SuperXtoon unfortunately I can't do another video as I no longer have access to that guitar. In answer to your question about changing the tuning, you can do this, but once done you would not be able to use the trem, if the trem was set up for E and you dropped to Eb releasing the trem from the lock position would result in the tuning going sharp (as the springs would be set for the higher tension of the higher pitch tuning), you would then struggle to return the arm to the lock position as it wouldn't line up smoothly with the locknut on the rear. The only way to really effectively use different tunings would be to set it up specifically for them.
Took me two days get mine dialed in - I think I need to replace the set screws, which aren't on the best terms with my Allen wrenches (and THEN I have to take them out and lose my settings.) I wish I could address the play in the arm when it's floating.I paid a fortune for this thing...
i would die to know how to setup this bad boy... make a video of it in the future, please!!
