coko was out bfore aaliyah, but coko had that "i dont have a stylist so i am going to do my own hair and stick on some bubble gum lip gloss". swv downfall, no polish. aaliyah was not the first to have that style, but she had steelo. coko could just sing. aaliyah made millions of females want to b her. cokos hair in this video looks like she got her little sister to do it
***** no, i dont hate her. her voice is a phenom. especially her runs. her runs rivaled kci. i just dont and did not think she was the total package. it is what it is. difft strokes for difft folks
that was the style back then though. I think you're forgetting, this air brushed heavily made up 28 inches of weave rnb thing didn't start until the late 2000s. Everything was heavily hip hop influenced back then, hence the big jackets and pants.
You are so outta pocket. SWV was known for their fresh doobies when they first came out. This look with the fresh doobies, and hip hop gear was their signature look during their first album and it was a major success. The same goes for Mary J who was an even bigger trendsetter. And Female artists were rocking weaves since the early 90's probably even before that. Aaliyah didn't start anything she just took a particular style and made it her signature look.
Every girl r&b performer had this swag back in the 90s...hell the guys had them same moves/ swag too. SWV was patterned after GUY. They were supposed to be the female version with Coko being out front like Aaron Hall.
@@nicim3730Mary J Blige was the first female artist to have that tomboy swag, but when SWV came out a few months later, they switched it up by wearing baggy clothes with their bras. TLC mimicked their style for their second album “CrazySexyCool” and then Aaliyah soon did the same thing.
@@nicim3730 Do you not remember how TLC looked when they first came out? Their “tomboy swag” was a lot different than Mary’s and SWV. They were wearing colorful oversized clothes with the condoms for 2 years until their 2nd album. Mary and SWV had that New York swag with the jerseys and bandanas etc. EVERY other female R&B artist who was out at that time had a much cleaner “well put together” image until Mary and SWV stepped on the scene. Then other female R&B artists started doing the same thing such as Xscape, Aaliyah, etc. That tomboy swag was “in” because Mary and SWV made that trend popular‼️ Same thing goes for Coko and her nails, of course some people at that time had long nails, but she made it POPULAR and had every girl all around the world wanting to get acrylics. Coko is the reason why girls like Cardi B and Saweetie are out here wearing long nails.
I love that they supported MJ and didn't turn their backs on him like most people did, and i love the shout out to MJ in the beginning.
In the beginning!
well…..regardless

I love that they still perform this. One of their biggest hits I love it❤
Love that they harmonize LIVE, without prerecorded vocals.
