Thank you very much for this excellent video, I need to service the starter of my 1150 Rockster and without your directions I had no idea how to do it. Thanks a thousand times again !
4:00 Simple mnemonic device when working with a battery: If you want your bike MINUS the battery then remove MINUS first. If you want your bike PLUS the battery then attach PLUS first.
Thanks for the video, it was thanks to it that I was able to do the starter change on my 2001 RT. HOWEVER... I had to remove the footrest plate and it took a while to reinstall it as the upper M10 bolt was slightly misalligned with the frame, and it took a big dude to move and jiggle the subframe to match the holes. Anll sorted out- Thanks!
Great videos and very helpful especially when it came to reassembly of clutch and transmission. Reassembly instructions in your videos is spot on. Great explanation of valve adjustment too. I'm going to recommend BMW Owners News magazine list your channel in a tech section. Keep up the good work...!
Very helpful, though maybe lead off with if you have a version of the bike that lets you access the battery without removing the tank, just disconnect it that way. I got 5 minutes in before I realized the tank removal wasn’t needed on the R1100RS to swap the starter.
Great video thank you. What's your view on removing the charcoal cannister on these older bmw's ? I have a 55k mile 2001 with its original cann8ster and r7nning very well b7t wonder should I ditch it? Thanks
I did my 2001, just plugged the end hose with a bolt in case things went sour. Zero issues! Look up Chris Harris and his quick & dirty cannisterectomy on UA-cam
I can add that the starter placing an undue draw on the battery will fault ABSII as the ABS requires a certain amount of voltage on start-up and will fault (alternating ABS lights). If electrical is causing the fault, it should reset on the next self-test while riding
How BAD must an electricity container be, when you aaaaalways pronounce it "BAD arrryyyeee" instead of BATT-ary? Oooh Gaaaaaaaadd!!! A man of BAD EN BAD EN who learnt ENGLISH instead of Aaaamm.
Good instructions. And no bla bla and bad music. Good

Well done video, yeah no "music" ! I am looking at that exact bike for sale and ad says needs starter, is that a red flag? Wish You had started it up,

Cheers - have you found that this can also assist with ABS2 problems (with them not working)?

I've heard the plastic quick disconnects break over time ... Do you have the metal ones?
yup
Do you have to take the gas tank off
no

How did you know the starter was bad? My R1150GS had the magnets dislodge. Quick disconnect link?
Beemer Boneyard for the metal quick-disconnects, excellent quality
