    Hi. Great video
    I've just replaced the belt on my dryer thanks to one of your videos. But I have noticed that the drum is now grinding on motor at the bottom. I have fitted the correct part but it seems to be very tight and pulls the drum down towards the motor. Any ideas

    I have a squeak / squeal that i am trying to diagnose on my mothers LG TD-C70045E. The high pitched squeal happens once every revolution of the drum and can be reproduced by moving the drum around by hand while the machine is not in operation. Out of a 360 degree revolution i would say the single instance of squeaking covers about 20-25 degrees of that revolution.

      Hi TheOneEyedWoodsman, there are various components that can cause a noise and some of them are explained in the video, can you drop the belt off and try turning it again as this takes out some of the components. you nee to use the process of elimination to find what is causing the noise.

    Hi.. I have a Hotpoint Condenser dryer {Will add Model#} Approx 1 week before it became useless it began making loud noises. Then, when a drying cycle was completed the clothes were still wet, and obvious that the drum had not been spinning as the clothes were in the same place! However, I felt heat..I'm assuming it's the belt/tensioner ... But your the expert!!! :)

    My Hotpoint FETC70 first edition makes an awful whistling noise after running for a while. Paying attention, this noise is present even in the pause when dryer switches directions from clockwise to anticlockwise and vice versa. I have just replaced the rear bearing to no avail.

    • @eSpares
      @eSpares  4 роки тому

      When the drier is reversing the only moving part is the drain pump, so can only suggest this is either faulty or may have some fluff in the impeller.

    If you could add in the possible sounds that different issues produce, it would be more helpful in determining the problem. Many of the sound descriptions that you explain are the same for different problems.

    • @eSpares
      @eSpares  8 років тому

      Hi Natalie, it would be great to be able to do this but unless we had worn bearings or noisy support wheels and fitted them to a good dryer we would not be able to show these. Hopefully if you follow the video and listen carefully to your machine you will identify the area where the noise is coming from. Once the power is disconnected you can also turn the drum by hand if it helps.

      Ho Judith, without a model number we are just guessing.
      If it is a Hotpoint Indesit or Creda dryer check the rear bearing as when worn the drum may drop and catch the base.

    My Amana electric front loading dryer is suddenly making a rubbing noise. The drum can still move easily by hand and the rubbing noise isn't very loud, but it's new. It's like a towel is being rubbed along the outside of the drum as it runs. It's maybe 6 years old and still works fine. I hope this is enough information for you to have an idea on the cause.

    • @eSpares
      @eSpares  4 роки тому

      Hi Faye, Amana is not sold in the UK so we are going on what we can find, look inside the front and rear edges of the drum for anything that may be catching. Typical noise issues are drive belt, drum roller & axle, blower wheel and drum bearing or drum slide.

    Hello eSpares,
    I have an update regarding my LG washer model WM3370HWA.
    I changed the control board and washer functions normally.
    I have adjusted the water level in the machine by turning the adjustment screw inside the machine.
    The washer is not fully closed up, I still have the lid and rear panel removed.
    Yesterday I washed 4 loads of laundry, the extended 1 hour washes.
    All was going well until the 4th load.
    No strange odors at all.
    Left the garage and returned after the 4th load chimed completed.
    Wheñ Ientered the garage there was that strange odor of burning electric again.
    Leaned over the machine and found the odor was coming from the Direct Drive motor.
    It is a burning electric smell, and the motor shield was very hot.
    The board was also smelling as if it were getting too hot.
    I understand that electricity generates heat, but I think this is a tad bit too much, and in combination with this electric burning smell, something just is not right with this machine.
    It seems to only occur when multiple long timed loads are processed consecutively without time to rest the machine.
    I have smelled this odor before in a balast for my light timer.
    I could not figure out where the electric burning odor was emitting from until I checked the light timer under the couch and it had a brown burned spot on it and it smelled the same as, or similar to the washer motor.
    Any suggestions as to what to do?
    HAVE ANY OF YOU ever run into this issue before?
    The washer now sits in the garage unplugged and I'm concerned to use it.
    If there is an issue with the burning smell in the direct drive motor, and this issue blew the original board on me, then should the 10 year direct drive motor warranty pay for that first board?
    I could not find any isssues with any of the other parts that I tested prior to installing the new board.
    That board is expensive and if it is a motor issue that blew the original board then LG owes me for a new board.
    Yeah, just try to collect from them.
    Any thoughts or ideas will be greatly appreciated!
    What should I do and am I going a tad bit off the deep end with this machine?
    THx
    Robert

      Hi Robert, we have heard of motors blowing the board before and it sounds like there is definitely an issue, contact LG if it is under their 10-year guarantee on parts, have you checked the motor to see if it is jamming?

      Hi Alan, there can be a number of causes for squeaking on your dryer. The usual culprits are the belt pulley (if fitted) the rear bearing wears (see our video: ua-cam.com/video/tu5mALFghqw/v-deo.html ) or if the machine is not level and the cabinet twists causing rubbing (pack up one or other side at the front to stop it.

    My dryer just did one load fine. Then I loaded up a down comforter and some sheets, a job I had done only a week ago and all of a sudden I heard a noise that sounds like its struggling a bit. I tried it on each setting (cotton-high heat, wrinkle free-low heat and no heat/fluff). I opened and emptied the drum, spun it a bit, it seemed fine a little tight but that's probably better than loose. I tried putting just the sheets back in and still that grind/droning noise. What would you say the problem is? Which part needs replacing? Should I just let it rest for a bit and try again?

    • @eSpares
      @eSpares  7 років тому

      Hi Sarah, you need to do a few checks to identify if you still have a problem. First with nothing in the drum try gently turning the drum by hand., it should have a little resistance but turn easily. If it is stiff or scrapes or makes a rumbling noise there is a problem and watch this video for more information: ua-cam.com/video/wUL5Wb1T71c/v-deo.html
      If the drum is OK select a rinse and spin cycle and check how it fills and drain. If this is OK watch another video: ua-cam.com/video/uKBy-9NEF5A/v-deo.html

    Thanks for the reply, the drum does turn the belt is ok, however it doesn't turn freely, but it never has! I've looked at the capacitor on the motor and it says Ducati 16.25.3880 6uf 425V 10000h/ cl. B
    475V 3000h/ cl. C. However there is another one not fixed to the motor but still near it Ducati 16.25.4180 2uf 425V 10000h/ cl. B

    Hiya, Andy,I think I have something caught in my tumble dryer, looking through vent holes inside, it looks like material has got in.. horrific noises coming from it, and a burning smell, its a white knight, , can you advise me on how to get it out?

    • @eSpares
      @eSpares  8 років тому

      We have known bra wires go through the holes, if this is the case it must be removed as soon as possible as it can damage the heater. Depending on model it is usually possible to remove the back panel and access the heater and any fluff that has built up. Excess fluff at the back can be a fire hazard so check this and replace the filter if damaged or not filling correctly.

    My Hotpoint tumble dryer is making a metallic noise on spin. Possibly a coin behind the drum. How can I remove it?

    • @eSpares
      @eSpares  8 років тому

      +Harry Wilson There are a couple of things to check. carefully examine all the drum holes as you may be lucky and find a 'bra wire' stuck through one hole and be able to remove it. Second if there is a wire under the tub use a torch to shine through and find it then use a small screwdriver to get it to the base of the drum. If you then remove the heater (see another video: ua-cam.com/video/CCCEsalzzbY/v-deo.html) you may be able to remove it through the heater hole.

    • @eSpares

      The problem is likely to be worn bearings so see another video to confirm this:
      ua-cam.com/video/wUL5Wb1T71c/v-deo.html
      Also see this video to prevent the machine vibrating on spin if the bearings are OK:

      Unfortunately additional diagnostic procedures yielded nothing. No noise when manually rotated at various speeds or pushing in various areas. No noise in either direction aside from motor turning. Likewise only a little bit of drum movement when lifting. Thoughts?

    • @eSpares
      @eSpares  7 років тому

      Take the belt off and spin the drum, if it makes a rumbling sound it is likely that the bearings are going. The 'little bit of movement' may be significant. Watch the video again at: ua-cam.com/video/wUL5Wb1T71c/v-deo.htmlm18s the drum on this machine only moves a few millimetres but the bearings are totally shot. The good machine shows no significant movement so if yours has movement suspect the bearings.

    • @eSpares

      If this only occurs during the wash cycle and continues when the drum 'pauses' before reversing suspect the re circulation pump. This runs on most LG's to deliver water in at the top of the door seal and can be seen being replaced in this video:

    i have a ge electric dryer that started clicking whenever I turn it on or turn it off. it only clicks once each time then runs normal. I noticed a black gooey substance is leaking from the center on the back of the machine too. I just finished cleaning lint and dust from the machine, there was a lot. but what I don't know is why it started clicking. help! my machine is 10 years old and I can't afford a new one right now. is there something you can suggest for fixing this or does it need to be fixed?

    • @Kandrida
      @Kandrida 7 років тому

      to clarify the clicking didn't start until after I finished cleaning the lint out, and tried to run the dryer. I only had a yard of fabric in it not a full load of clothes.

    • @eSpares
      @eSpares  7 років тому

      Hi Kandrida, the 'black gooey substance' is this in the drum at the centre?, if it is it could be coming from the bearings or something that has burnt from the lint. If it is a gas tumble dryer the clicking may be the ignition tube trying to light the gas and the burner may need a clean especially if fluff has got down while cleaning it.

    • @Kandrida
      @Kandrida 7 років тому

      eSpares the black gooey substance is on the outside outside in the center of the back. if I lean over the machine to look between the wall and the machine it looks like it's coming from where the drum is secured to the back panel. I live in a zero gas community so all appliances are electric only.

    • @eSpares
      @eSpares  7 років тому

      If the substance is not coming from the bearings it is possible something may have come into contact with the back and it may not be from the machine itself. We are sorry but can't think what the clicking may be, we suggest you try to listen as to where the click is coming from then disconnect the power and carefully look in that area for signs of burning or damage.

      That's OK we can just go to your profile page as we cannot accept links. Your video suggests the main motor does not turn but is at least getting some power hence the buzz. This suggests a motor problem and can be caused by the motor or its control board if the drum is not seized and can be rotated by hand.
