    2. 3 cups white vinegar (buy cleaning concentrated vinegar bc its cheaper and then dilute it and use that)
    3. Small bowl
    4. Long cleaning brush
    5. Small cleaning brush
    6. Paper towels
    7. Fishies 🐠🥺 (humidifier cleaning ball)

    • @SuchPlants

      The way it works is water will trickle from the main tank into the base chamber and then into the atomizer that converts the water into mist, so there is a continuous cycle of water. That means there will always be water in the base chamber when the machine is running. Not sure if this answers your question lol but I hope it helps! 😄

    • @SuchPlants
      @SuchPlants  2 роки тому +3

      In my case, I think it’s pretty accurate. I have a separate sensor on the other side of the room and they are no more than 2-3% difference usually. I have a small fan next to the humidifier so it helps to distribute the humidity in the room to get a more accurate reading.

    • @joschroons3589

    How often do you need to empty the water in the base tank based on the water level you filled it to in the video's conclusion? Adding about 2 inches of water causes the humidifier to stop, suggesting the need to empty the water in the base. Considering your water level, do you find yourself emptying it frequently?

    • @SuchPlants
      @SuchPlants  6 місяців тому

      I usually empty the base tank every time I clean it, which is about once a month. I am not breathing in this air daily, since it’s just for my plant room.
      With that said, if you are breathing it daily, you should be emptying the base tank at least once a week, and wipe down the parts in the base. I’ve noticed the water can become yucky fast down there. However, if you are using distilled water, then you might get away with emptying/cleaning every 1-2 weeks since buildup doesn’t happen as fast.

    What was wrong with your previous humidifier and what didn't you like about it that caused you to switch to Levoit 300S?

    • @SuchPlants
      @SuchPlants  Рік тому +3

      The main selling point of the 300S for me was that I can easily refill the reservoir from the top-all I have to do is lift the cover and pour water in. The previous humidifier was bottom-fill, so I had to lift the reservoir, turn it upside down, unscrew the cap, and carefully pour water into the small hole. Then when I’d put the reservoir back onto its base, if there was any water in the base, it would splash some water as soon as I set it down.
      Also, the previous humidifier did not have a hygrometer, so it would run all day until the water ran out. The 300S will stop until the desired humidity is reached, and then start when the humidity is too low. In the end, the 300S saved more water.

    Didn’t kno I have to replace filter ….
    Do you have to clean these daily? I just dump out water and add new
    Also…. I have white dust everywhere
    I didn’t use distilled
    But used my fridge water has filter
    My town has hard water
    Makes me wonder if the filter isn’t working

    • @SuchPlants
      @SuchPlants  6 місяців тому

      I can’t speak to the filter since my unit version doesn’t have it. But the white dust is due to hard water. Typical household water filters do not filter out all minerals unfortunately. Your fridge filter is still doing its job at filtering out harsh chemicals, but is still letting through minerals.
      If you don’t want to use distilled, then you can use reverse osmosis water like I do (most refill stations utilize reverse osmosis), which uses a membrane filter that does filter out minerals, although distilled is going to be best if you want to clean less often. I also recently installed a reverse osmosis machine under my kitchen sink which is awesome.
      With that said, if you use the machine daily for your personal health, then you should follow the manufacturer’s suggestions and clean it frequently.

    • @SuchPlants
      @SuchPlants  2 роки тому

      The Taotronics I had wasn’t automatic so it will run constantly until water runs out, which usually would last only 2 days before I have to refill it again. It was also bottom fill only, so I had to remove the tank from the base and turn it upside down to refill it. The Levoit solves both these issues and makes it more convenient for me. The app is great as well. ☺️ Personally it’s worth the extra money.

    No need to clean if one uses destilled water no?

      You’ll still need to clean, just not as frequent. Bacteria can still build up in distilled water.

    I picked this up for work. My last one was smaller ua-cam.com/users/postUgkxtD9aJ2m6GU-X1IChQxjn9l31K1A7Kpwj and cuter but the motor burned out within a few months. This one's footprint is a tad bigger but it still doesn't eat up a lot of desk space. Its size and shape blends into the background nicely. This has a good size water container so I don't need to refill more than once a week. I use filtered (not distilled) water because cleaning up after our hard water is tough at work. I like that this has several settings. It's also very quiet. (I have a silence naxi in the next cubicle.) It also hasn't left that terrible while powder, so far, that some humidifiers leave. Been using this for a month or so now and am very happy with my purchase.

    Cleaning it this way broke my humidifier on the first clean. Do NOT spray water into the base unit like he is demonstrating. Night light and display are now randomly turning on and off. And the humidity sensor is whacked out.

    • @SuchPlants

      Sorry to hear that. I’ve cleaned it like this multiple times with no issues. Did you let it air dry COMPLETELY before plugging it back in? I usually let it dry overnight and it seems to be enough. Of course, my air is dryer where I am located so things tend to dry out relatively faster. My sink also has a rack so the bottom of the humidifier doesn’t come into complete contact with the running water. These are factors that could affect your results. However I did not mindlessly spray water into the slotted vents of the base. Obviously you want to be careful as to not get water into the electrical parts. But if it dries completely, you shouldn’t have any issues when plugging back in. I would reach out to the manufacturer for further support! It could be that you just have a defective unit. 🥺

    • @hallerrr
      @hallerrr 2 роки тому +4

      I’m very surprised yours is still working the way you spray it down in the vid. I was probably even a bit more strategic with how I rinsed it. I let it dry with the assistance of a direct fan for 10 hours. Maybe just add a disclaimer that you really shouldn’t spray the base unit down like that. The directions (and very large sticker) even explicitly say to not put water directly in the base - so I have some blame here as well. Let’s hope they have mercy on me and I can get a new one.

    • @SuchPlants
      @SuchPlants  2 роки тому +2

      Yeah it’s weird that there is a sticker that says not to pour water directly into the base chamber-even the cleaning directions don’t mention anything about that. There is even a picture of the base chamber under the faucet with the tank being rinsed. I mean, how else do we rinse the base chamber? Lol. The only reason I can think of is to prevent you from adding excess water to the base chamber and then filling the tank with water as well. At least that’s how I understood it. That would cause it to leak because then the base chamber would be overfilled. Regardless, I hope you get a replacement unit. Best of luck man! I still think it’s a very good machine. ☺️

    Please clean your humidifiers a few times a week not just a change of water or re fill clean the machine properly or your room becomes a breading ground for lurgies

    • @SuchPlants
      @SuchPlants  2 роки тому +1

      Yes I would say it should be cleaned at least once a week for our optimal health if we are breathing in the humidity. My humidifier is in my plant room so I’m not inhaling the air on a regular basis-it is strictly for my plants. Whenever I open the door to my plant room twice a day, the air is quickly refreshed and circulated so it’s not just stagnant air all day. The air conditioner in my home will quickly draw out the air as well. However I do have an air purifier in my living room where I spend more time in. An air purifier is something we overlook and I think it’s something worth having in the home. I also learned that an air purifier will not affect the performance of the humidifier if placed in the same room, so it’s the perfect duo! 😊

      😂 No, as long as you rinse it out until there’s no vinegar smell, you should be alright! It doesn’t take much to rinse out the smell either.

    Considering the instructions said not to pour water into the base (wish I'd consulted them before your video), I'd say taking your advice was a very poor decision on my part. did not get the desired outcome by a long shot. I'll leave it there.

    • @SuchPlants

      Heyyy! Have you considered concentrated vinegar? They come in large bottles and different strengths, but essentially you just add water to dilute it, and it becomes the same strength as white vinegar (or add less water to make it stronger). It makes cleaning a little less insane haha and I use this for everything around the house! Just don’t use it for food because it’s not food grade. 😊

    Good tutorial, but get to the point...it's about cleaning...not your plants. I also took off the "cage" guard that holds foam cylindrical dirty filter and washed it out - easy and you should include that step...it needs attention. Thanks for your efforts.

      Thanks! I didn’t expect this video to get so many views, as my channel is all about my plants! 😆🌱 Also, it seems Levoit has been upgrading this machine; my machine does not have the filter that you mentioned. So, good on them! Perhaps when I decide to get the upgraded machine, I’ll focus more on it in an update video. Thanks for the feedback. 😊

    It would be better if a video with the title of how to clean something was just about how to clean something and you didn't need to work out how to get to the content you thought the video was about. Save the other stuff for another video.

      Just a tip: You can buy 1 jug of concentrated vinegar that is equal to 6 jugs of white vinegar. But I agree that it does require some time to clean the machine every so often.

    It was 8+ minutes into your video before you even STARTED talking about cleaning the humidifier. You were doing things that could not be seen in the camera angle you were using. It would improve the video if you thought through your presentation before you started talking. The "eyeballing" you did for the vinegar was probably pretty far off based on my years of cooking (I'm70, so I have a lot of cookingexperience). Sorry, but your video was not very helpful.

      Hi! Thanks for the feedback. I wasn’t intending this video to be a full humidifier tutorial, but rather just to quickly share the way that I do it. I realized later that I could’ve been more detailed in some of the steps, but I am happy to answer any questions in the comments. 😊 Hopefully the chapters in the description help viewers like you to quickly jump to the demonstration portion of the video.

      I disagree - I think it was very helpful. I also noticed the amount hahaha. My only suggestion would be to add: an annotation with a timestamp about when the demo starts, a disclaimer regarding how often you clean it, and a list of supplies that you need/the ones that were used **at the beginning of the video** would help anyone who can watch it in the future!
      I think he went so far in depth about the issues he had because at the end of the day we’re all trying to help each other out and because there’s so many variables that come into play - you really don’t know what issues you might run in apart from the ones he ran into. When you I bought mine I wasn’t aware that wherever I place my separate humidity sensor, how long the machine is on for, where its placed in the room compared to vents/air flow, and how often you clean it can affect its performance or how accurate it can work, or can affect whatever you use it for. I also didn’t know about the fishy. He did go out of his way to edit, film, clean, and demo it for us and that makes the process so much easier which he really didn’t need to do, thank you for that man honestly I was soo overwhelmed with the instructions 😂
