LOL! Cargo shorts and BBQ flip flops with a graphic T shirt have become cliche for American suburban "dad". I especially hate the cargo shorts that have those ridiculous drawstrings at the leg openings. The O.G. has some good advice for the mature guy that wants to be taken serious and get noticed from the crowd of cargo short guys!
Great stuff, My man. Just turned 62, and the wardrobe is definitely getting SERIOUS upgrades soon. On a side note, I went to a Walmart recently and saw EVERY SINGLE example of what NOT to wear! For the record, I went there for cheap toiletries and some basic stuff, NOT clothing!

I like my cargos. They're functional. They're great for your keys, phone etc. And they don't have to be long either. At or slightly above the knee when it comes to shorts. Im not wearing those 1970's ahort shorts 😂
As for shorts, I think it also depends on body types (fuller legs, muscular, skinny eyc..) that accommodates the best for the type of shorts (longer or shorter). Not all "Older" looks the same for every man. My age is older, but I cary it young still. So I dress accordingly within reason. Yes I'm a sandle guy w/o socks..and I'm a tank top guy cuz its my personality and its comfortable to me while still tasteful, plus its HOT where I live and I'm hot easy😅💯 However, I do truly appreciate your vid and YOUR style👍🏾

Good video Jeff! I must say disagree with you on the issue of shorts in the summer. As a big man, shorts and little below the knee look better and also tend to give the illusion of a height and slimmer appearance.
I like my shorts right at the knee. Too high and I feel like I'm back in the '70s and '80s with Dr. J and Magic Johnson playing basketball.. Too low, and I feel like a '90s mall rat or like I'm wearing capris. I prefer the cargos over the plain fronts because the cargos tend to be looser. The plain fronts are just too tight for my boys and thighs... and they tend to be too high or too short. They also limit my movement. When I wear shorts, I'm usually either running errands, doing chores or partaking in a functional activity, like hiking, BBQing, pool, beach, etc. So I want to be comfortable.

Linen or thin cotton cargos don’t look as bulky as the thicker versions of cargos which I think makes them more presentable and comfortable for the summer. In fact linen absolutely fantastic even past the knees with the right fit. So I definitely think the material or weight of the material needs to be factored in. Good content nevertheless. I like my shorts right at the knee. Not that I care or don’t care what anyone thinks but I have a few surgical scars on my knees. Others with scars like mine may not be so comfortable exposing them.
I've been updating my summer cloths lately, You are right about the darker colors it does draw heat, I just purchased a light blue suite and found it was way cooler to ware than my navy suite, still on the hunt for lighter color blazers. Keep up with the great videos!

Let's keep it real !! Most older men will not be built/ look the way they were when they were younger. So the tank top flip flop look is not appropriate for most older men in public. But at the end of the day to each his own.
Jeff, you really should have included slide style activewear sandals on the never-do list. Shower shoes should not be worn too many steps past your shower - not with socks, not without socks.
@@btinsley1 I agree! If your feet are jacked up, these are the options when considering sandals: 1.) Seek out a pedicure and/or foot doctor to get some help (toe fungus, bunions, etc.). Hiding ugly feet by wearing socks with sandals just lets us know your feet have issues! 2.) Don't wear open toed sandals at all! Wear some fisherman's sandals (closed toe) or wear some espadrilles. These examples are great for summer and they are both classy. I usually wear espadrilles during the summer because I like the style. I'm currently looking for a nice pair of leather sandals, though.

Salute, my Brother! Sandals and socks! I died laughing when you mentioned this because I STILL see brothers rocking that combination. When the weather gets hot, I pull out my linen sport coats with chinos or light colored shorts with pastel colored Polo t-shirts and I'm good to go. And you missed a no-no. No baseball cap on backwards with any outfit. Warm weather for me means Panama hat season!
Greetings from Tampa Florida . I completely agree with Mr O.G.. Having said that , it was 100 degrees here today ,and I had to run some errands . I wore my flip flops, a white tank top, and my shortest shorts ( not quite hoochie daddy, but close) when it's this hot outside it's about survival not fashion
Style OG flip flops are my jam, I live in a small beach town in Cali and pretty much wear flip flops 75 percent of the year. I make sure to accessorize properly and have many different pair.

As I understand it, dark colors, especially black and navy attract bugs. The best colors for repelling bugs is light blue and especially white. So not only do light colors look great in the summer, they're also functional.
The weather just hit the 90s so this was perfect! Still working on the flip flops and tank tops but all good in other areas. Dope video as always O.G. Salute!!
Night time also changes dress codes and what you generally are in the mood to wear. This is the time when you can wear the more traditional formal colours in the summer. More now than in the past, you can find summer shirts with dark backgrounds that feature loud patterns or bright traditional checks in linen, viscose & rayon, and silk. Among the dressy summer shirts I wear are made of silk. Very dressy and perfect with linen and lightweight chino pants, also seersucker shorts. A good idea is to mainly wear spread necked open collar shirts preferably with the button and loop at the lapel. A lot of brands still unfortunately _only_ do the regular business shirt neck and collar (regardless of collar stays). Temperature going down at night means you can wear the more expensive stuff in your wardrobe because you sweat much less in general. With all that said, I never go without an undershirt because I don't plan on destroying my wardrobe nor being seeing with piss stains on my body and pits.
@@Terror1Void I don't have a great body overall but one thing I do have is tree trunk thighs and legs. I don't even have to work on them they're just that way. Now my wimpy arms on the other hand! I could work them out every day and see minor gains.

I wear what I want and like. Following trends and caring about others especially what women think about is not for me to this extent. A lot of this stuff I would wear bc that’s me before any of this. Be yourself when it comes to appearance for men. The men who stand out by themselves will get unique choices in women who worry about the best thing. These advice videos will get you laid more. Also different if I’m engaging in an event or just going to the store. I’m not a girl and have to take 1-2 hours to take a 5-10 trip to the store. To me this is just a petty as as most females are. That’s not the type of females I’ll do anything but hit n pass
@@DTraiN5795 The problem with the sunglasses Jeff says to only wear are the least functional frames for the summer, since they do not offer maximum coverage like an action/sports frame does. This is where Oakley and the like are better for sensitive eyes, and since UV rays are not good for our eyes particularly in the summer, it's not a bad thing to want to wear those. It's all about intent and owning that decision you made in the face of intrusive questions and criticism from others. A real man makes himself understood when the questions come in and is not insecure, because they are only words in the form of questions. The most stylish sporty frames, while still keeping traditional, are probably Ray-Ban's Balorama. The next stylish and traditional models are the Olympian and Predator 2 (which is the most action and sport of the bunch). I've worn the Balorama for almost 2 years, year round, and the sun is 99% of the time blocked at the sides which is what you want in summer frames. Clint Eastwood wore a brown tort Balorama in 1967 & 68. Check out Coogan's Bluff if you like his post-Western films. Yes we can wear the frames Jeff suggested, but they do have big problems and if glass lensed they often are heavy and wears you out over the course of the day. Baloramas come in glass lenses, but they're much better balanced, thus I rarely need to hold them off my nose with my thumb and finger for 30 secs, and I never have to take them off completely. With all the other frames Jeff prefers I have all the above problems and sometimes I take them off my face for a much longer rest.
I wear only shorts during the summer, way too hot not to where I live. I must confess I wear tank tops, but there all form fitted and in array of patterns and light colours. I guess thats one rule I have broken, but can't live without them in the summer. Great Vid.

For the people disagreeing, I think y’all clearly missing the keyword “STYLE”. There’s nothing wrong with wearing some of the things he said not to wear, it’s just a time and place to do so and he’s right. Anyone who has a sense of style will never say it to you directly, but if you want to consider yourself a man of STYLE, you have to know that those things will make you look tacky. Trust me I’d love to still wear my nike hoop shorts etc with some slides but you can’t pull up to no functions with that shit on and expect to catch eyes, the good ones that is.. One thing that men should never do in Summer….Spring, Winter, or Fall, is to salute with some colloquial, casual, non-military type of salute. A salute is a formal, precise, serious gesture with a deep history. 1940s musical films and late nationalistic culture has watered down a custom that has need meaning to those with military background. A salute done improperly is actually an insult. If you have no experience with saluting, just don’t do it. Don’t say “salute” while you’re doing it. Don’t say ANYTHING while you’re doing it. To do it correctly, stand at attention. Raise the right arm directly to the corner of the cover being worn above the right eye. The arm should be straight from the tips of the fingers to the elbow, and then the elbow bends back toward the shoulder. No break in the wrist. I totally disagree about your advice concerning tank tops. I look forward to summer each year so I can wear my ultra comfortable tank tops on a hot and humid summer's day. Plus, they make me look sexy. No way am I giving up wearing them in the summer.

Salute, my Brother! Sandals and socks! I died laughing when you mentioned this because I STILL see brothers rocking that combination. When the weather gets hot, I pull out my linen sport coats with chinos or light colored shorts with pastel colored Polo t-shirts and I'm good to go. And you missed a no-no. No baseball cap on backwards with any outfit. Warm weather for me means Panama hat season!

As someone who grew up on a small island and is now in Florida. The idea of adult males wearing sandals or flip flops year round always irked me.

Greetings from Tampa Florida . I completely agree with Mr O.G.. Having said that , it was 100 degrees here today ,and I had to run some errands . I wore my flip flops, a white tank top, and my shortest shorts ( not quite hoochie daddy, but close) when it's this hot outside it's about survival not fashion
Style OG flip flops are my jam, I live in a small beach town in Cali and pretty much wear flip flops 75 percent of the year. I make sure to accessorize properly and have many different pair.

As I understand it, dark colors, especially black and navy attract bugs. The best colors for repelling bugs is light blue and especially white. So not only do light colors look great in the summer, they're also functional.
Chino’s now come in so many fits & colors it’s my go to pair of pants. Jeans are just so tired and boring. Nice helpful clip….

Night time also changes dress codes and what you generally are in the mood to wear. This is the time when you can wear the more traditional formal colours in the summer. More now than in the past, you can find summer shirts with dark backgrounds that feature loud patterns or bright traditional checks in linen, viscose & rayon, and silk. Among the dressy summer shirts I wear are made of silk. Very dressy and perfect with linen and lightweight chino pants, also seersucker shorts. A good idea is to mainly wear spread necked open collar shirts preferably with the button and loop at the lapel. A lot of brands still unfortunately _only_ do the regular business shirt neck and collar (regardless of collar stays). Temperature going down at night means you can wear the more expensive stuff in your wardrobe because you sweat much less in general. With all that said, I never go without an undershirt because I don't plan on destroying my wardrobe nor being seeing with piss stains on my body and pits.

I wear what I want and like. Following trends and caring about others especially what women think about is not for me to this extent. A lot of this stuff I would wear bc that’s me before any of this. Be yourself when it comes to appearance for men. The men who stand out by themselves will get unique choices in women who worry about the best thing. These advice videos will get you laid more. Also different if I’m engaging in an event or just going to the store. I’m not a girl and have to take 1-2 hours to take a 5-10 trip to the store. To me this is just a petty as as most females are. That’s not the type of females I’ll do anything but hit n pass

@@DTraiN5795 The problem with the sunglasses Jeff says to only wear are the least functional frames for the summer, since they do not offer maximum coverage like an action/sports frame does. This is where Oakley and the like are better for sensitive eyes, and since UV rays are not good for our eyes particularly in the summer, it's not a bad thing to want to wear those. It's all about intent and owning that decision you made in the face of intrusive questions and criticism from others. A real man makes himself understood when the questions come in and is not insecure, because they are only words in the form of questions.
The most stylish sporty frames, while still keeping traditional, are probably Ray-Ban's Balorama. The next stylish and traditional models are the Olympian and Predator 2 (which is the most action and sport of the bunch). I've worn the Balorama for almost 2 years, year round, and the sun is 99% of the time blocked at the sides which is what you want in summer frames. Clint Eastwood wore a brown tort Balorama in 1967 & 68. Check out Coogan's Bluff if you like his post-Western films.
Yes we can wear the frames Jeff suggested, but they do have big problems and if glass lensed they often are heavy and wears you out over the course of the day. Baloramas come in glass lenses, but they're much better balanced, thus I rarely need to hold them off my nose with my thumb and finger for 30 secs, and I never have to take them off completely. With all the other frames Jeff prefers I have all the above problems and sometimes I take them off my face for a much longer rest.

I wear only shorts during the summer, way too hot not to where I live. I must confess I wear tank tops, but there all form fitted and in array of patterns and light colours. I guess thats one rule I have broken, but can't live without them in the summer. Great Vid.

For the people disagreeing, I think y’all clearly missing the keyword “STYLE”. There’s nothing wrong with wearing some of the things he said not to wear, it’s just a time and place to do so and he’s right. Anyone who has a sense of style will never say it to you directly, but if you want to consider yourself a man of STYLE, you have to know that those things will make you look tacky. Trust me I’d love to still wear my nike hoop shorts etc with some slides but you can’t pull up to no functions with that shit on and expect to catch eyes, the good ones that is.. Cuz you definitely gone get roasted for looking tacky.

I slightly disagree on the tank top. If you in shape going to the beach or a festival or somewhere in the hot sun a tank top is a chick magnet, but you have to have a very nice physique to pull it off.

One thing that men should never do in Summer….Spring, Winter, or Fall, is to salute with some colloquial, casual, non-military type of salute. A salute is a formal, precise, serious gesture with a deep history. 1940s musical films and late nationalistic culture has watered down a custom that has need meaning to those with military background. A salute done improperly is actually an insult. If you have no experience with saluting, just don’t do it. Don’t say “salute” while you’re doing it. Don’t say ANYTHING while you’re doing it.
To do it correctly, stand at attention. Raise the right arm directly to the corner of the cover being worn above the right eye. The arm should be straight from the tips of the fingers to the elbow, and then the elbow bends back toward the shoulder. No break in the wrist. After reaching the corner of the eye, the arm goes straight back to the side, and NOT out in an arc with some sort of wave, as if Judy Garland were waving at Bing Crosby. DO NOT do that. I totally disagree about your advice concerning tank tops. I look forward to summer each year so I can wear my ultra comfortable tank tops on a hot and humid summer's day. Plus, they make me look sexy. No way am I giving up wearing them in the summer.
Disagree with you on the tank tops, especially if you have the bod for 'em. Tank tops and shorts are perfect summer clothing, and both come in a variety of colors, making for easy, stylish and cool summer wear.
