Can you do a walkthrough of the reporting, graphs, etc. of the Profilux?

The new Deltec's are out! I think you should test one out. I just ordered mine from Adam at Battle corals. I think the 1000ix will be perfect for your reef.

Did you buy all the accessories in terms of the expansion cards to wireless notification for your cell phone, etc?

Yes, I have wireless notifications for my P4 but unfortunately I can't have a notification for my skimmer cup since I am using some non-GHL components for the float switch setup.

@@ReefBum you would expect that with a binary input and a event/action to be triggered that it allso could be processed as a event notification ……..otherwise it is a lack of flexibility in the software in other words a missed opportunity.

I see ghl has come a long way since it was ran by Michael. He tried his best to get ghl to be popular in the states, but just didn’t really happen. I’m one of the early adopters with a p2, then a p3, and the first doser. Still got them today. I even have 5 Mitras 6200 still. If people think ghl is expensive right now, they used to be wayyyyyyy more. An ultimate profillux controller set was around $1600 when a Neptune apex full system was $700. Radion pro was $650, mitras $900. Back then they didn’t care to be competitive in prices with competitors. Their products were really good so they figured they would charge way more than anyone else, but 90% of reefers rather go with Neptune for much less money to do the same thing. And Neptune has way more product support being here in the USA. I guess ghl finally decided to be a bit more competitive in pricing, which obviously has brought them more success in the states now I see. That’s good, cuss I’ve always been a supporter of ghl products, even before most Reefers even knew who ghl was.

So let me get this straight. You had to open the P4 and add an extra port. Then buy a BOB (which is ugly btw) to control the float switch? The programming was easy, but IMO the P4 should already come with that port for a BOB like the Apex does. I don’t want to open my controller to add extra ports. Not a fan. Strike 1 for Profilux. I’ll continue to keep and open mind as I love their GHL doser 2.1 SA. So far I’m not impressed with the P4. I hope I see better things in the future!

This was done because GHL wants to give users the flexibility to upgrade their controller without having to purchase external modules which only take up extra space and add more wiring to the whole setup. The two ports are open to be customized with the expansion cards that best suit the user.
Adding even more ports out of the box would have meant less user-flexibility and more external accessories to connect to the P4. If the user outgrows the built-in ports, they are free to install the card that gives them exactly what they need; extra probe ports, extra level sensor ports, combination of both, etc. In the end, the idea is to maintain that space-saving design without sacrificing user-customization options.

ReefBum - Well, that makes total sense. Maybe it’s not so bad. How much did you pay for that upgrade?

@@Reefahholic $83 for the expansion card and another $12 for the breakout board.

For this application you can also use GHL float or optical sensors which plug directly into the back of the P4. This would give you more functionality with built-in failsafe features and control. I went with the expansion card since I had my own float switch.

ReefBum - That’s not too bad I guess.
