Half mast is only if you are flying a flag on a ship. Ships have masts. Half staff is flying on land.

Well, I am a Singaporean, either half-staff or half-mast works for us. Idk where you came from but for us either one is ok but we most commonly use half-mast. Also, I’ve never heard anyone flying half-staff on a ship

Thanks for your comment! The Canadian government uses the term “half-mast” which is why we chose to refer to it that way in the video.
