It’s wild the algorithm isn’t promoting this video more. This channel is incredible. Please keep making videos, your channel will explode in popularity!!!!
with the first illusion, i think it's also that the vertical line is on top of horizontal line, so it appears to our brain as though the width of the horizontal line contributes to the height of the vertical line
thats because in this pic they are squares not lines, now take a thin pencil and draw the same thing, look away a minute then look back, you'll see the same illusion, his explanation is correct, our eyes is configured to see more horizontal then vertical because of the adaptation of what we see constantly on earth, everything goes more horizotal
I've experienced the motion aftereffect illusion after an extended period of time playing guitar hero - there are buttons moving towards you constantly on a moving fretboard and after a long time playing the game if you look away, e.g. at a wall or another part of the room, you see everything moving away from you.
I just discovered your channel and I am a huge fan now. It's rare that I find someone with such similar interests and tastes as I do (digging the Eyeliner in the background by the way). Keep it up man 😁
You should also talk about the optic nerve blind spot! Also, this is super interesting for me. I am almost completely blind in my left eye so my vision is 2D. None of the 3D illusions work for me at all
Your brain's visual processing centers, actively hide the 'blind spot' from your consciousness. Can you imagine if this wasn't the case? You would be aware of a 'hole' in your visual field, that would likely breaking any illusion of immersion.
@@David.C.Velasquez yes, but look up optic nerve blind spot and read the wiki article. you can prove that it is a real phenomenon by the test on wikipedia or on another website. you close one eye and look at a dot in the center and a off-set dot. at a certain specific eye distance the off-set dot seems to dissapear into the background when the eye is focused on the center dot.
I just discovered your content and it's great. I love your deep dives, thoughtfulness, and even your voice.Your videos are both enjoyable/entertaining and also make me think. So I subscribed. I saw you don't make videos often and it's my (selfish) hope you'll be able to them more frequently. Thanks for what you do.

I am not sure why but the impossible looping objects like the infinite stream leading to a waterfall make me SOOO queazy more than other optical illusions. Their mind breaking existence is likely whats doing it. Lovecraftian. Great video.
I really like the different domains you use to make sens of this. Please, make a follow up with pattern, you got really cool stuff with conway, pentrose and a relatively recent breakthrough by a random to a problem that keep math ppl up for a very long time.
Dude, UA-cam didnt recommend this video to me, and youre one of my favourite channels. I had to come here myself to check if there is any new video. The low views are not the video fault.
Our interpretation of Sander's Parallelogram isn't even a mistake. It's just our brain interpreting what we see in 3D, which is exactly what it's supposed to do.
If you measure all the foods you eat with a gram scale and MyFitnessPal, and estimate your caloric output with a tracker and/or scale, you don't need to worry about whether or not you're over serving or under serving.
i love the thumbnail of the video for a while it feels like its actually moving when you aren't looking. made me instantly want to click on this video... real mind boggling stuff
I hate it when you put hundreds of hours into a project. Just for the algorithm to say. " your video isn't worthy of viewers right now" then they promote a Skibidi Toilet video instead. SMH
I explained 3:38 to myself as being a result of our minds accounting the full shape being larger or smaller when looking at individual lines I guess I was (Kinda) wrong though haha
For a second I honestly thought that was the point, that it was the illusion - "no matter who you are, you'll see this ad in your language", resulting in a momentary brain explosion 😅
I just watched a video that said that the carpenter effect was not that case. It said that when viewed thru one eye the rural area group didnt show any difference then the urban group, they saw the illusion the same which contradict what was said in this video. ua-cam.com/video/BJ6amzHVkeI/v-deo.htmlsi=DS94bHo3BVAYbA8T @7:55
Not to be that guy but its always confused me that people said you cant see both sides of the necker cube because I can do it you just have to stay in kind of an in-between state of the transition
I don't remember nixon needing to be explained to to not to use flame throwers on child combatants. Also, that the 4th ammendment probably should remain intact.
14:50 this was created in real life. It's an installation in a little walking path along a little river in Freiburg or Straussburg. There are three bars, the left goes diagonal pointing up and away from the viwer, one longer horizontal, the right also diagonal pointing up and towards the viewer \_/ some 20 or 30 feet away , a couple feet off of the ground was a plate with a small hole. Crouched and looking there only there, you see the impossible triangle. I'm sure others have done it, but thank you for talking me back to that

I agree.
I just taught a lesson on this to my students in my psych classes last week. This is a great film!
You are an awesome teacher.
Love that you alternate between the two pronunciations of GIF :)
this needs way more views
I really liked the editing in this video. You managed to effectively point out key features of some illusions using only visual elements.
with the first illusion, i think it's also that the vertical line is on top of horizontal line, so it appears to our brain as though the width of the horizontal line contributes to the height of the vertical line
The vertical line is longer because it has a fraction of the horizontal line added to it.
thats because in this pic they are squares not lines, now take a thin pencil and draw the same thing, look away a minute then look back, you'll see the same illusion, his explanation is correct, our eyes is configured to see more horizontal then vertical because of the adaptation of what we see constantly on earth, everything goes more horizotal

always delivering amazing content

Lmao "When a venemous snake starts charging towards you" Yeah my drink came out my nose on that one.
That subscribe on ponzo section was too smoothhhhh

Really cool display of illusions, I remember I had a book of illusions as a kid and always loved it

This dude makes higher quality videos than most bigger channels
I still think the greatest illusion of all time was when my dad said he was just going to the store to grab milk
>brings up noticing the Animal Collective reference
>FAILS to acknowledge the inspiration for Merzbow's Pulse Demon cover art at 27:13
(all in good fun i love Ur stuff)
I thought you left us behind.
just the illusion of leaving us behind.
He was gone for 2 months... Relax lmao
he was taken by the rapture 😔
I am not sure why but the impossible looping objects like the infinite stream leading to a waterfall make me SOOO queazy more than other optical illusions.
Their mind breaking existence is likely whats doing it. Lovecraftian.
Great video.
Didn't know that Roger Penrose hat something to do with this. But it links perfectly well to his wild ideas about the cosmos :)

fantastic video. deeply educational and well-presented.
Totally tubular
Your voice is so soothing

Edit: then he changed to gif at 21:30 ??
Edit 2: HE KEEPS CHANGING😭😭
We eating good today
8:27 That's the cleverest thing I'll see today.
If you measure all the foods you eat with a gram scale and MyFitnessPal, and estimate your caloric output with a tracker and/or scale, you don't need to worry about whether or not you're over serving or under serving.
this video makes me really appreciate the whole psychology field
Great stuff! Btw- much of Brian Watsink’s research on food has been retracted.
0:57 - Horizontal 426px to Vertical 447px
2:06 - left is 590px and right 600px
2:21 - pink has 865px long and blue one 900px
sussy :D
Merryweather Post Pavilion
By Animal Collective!
29:38 oh that the reason why am seeing my wall all wavy and stuff when im watching rhythm game gameplay especially chunithm
The first illusion worked for me even though I had one eye shut since I'm laying in bed on my side and my head buried in my pillow
i love the thumbnail of the video for a while it feels like its actually moving when you aren't looking. made me instantly want to click on this video... real mind boggling stuff
I love this!
This made my head hurt brah
Who knew bears made such great music
8:28 the perfect sub-begging doesn't ex-...
good risings to you pharaoh.
Ooooooooo my brain hurts
Found your channel today now on a binging spree haha
Does the illusion break for you too when the lines are extended at 3:40?
it really screwed with my head when you showed the waterfall and then the grass image just contorting.
I hate it when you put hundreds of hours into a project. Just for the algorithm to say. " your video isn't worthy of viewers right now" then they promote a Skibidi Toilet video instead. SMH
You're Canadian shows when you say the word "out"
MAJIMA! he really is evrywhare!
Yo this diserves 1 trillon views
I explained 3:38 to myself as being a result of our minds accounting the full shape being larger or smaller when looking at individual lines
I guess I was (Kinda) wrong though haha
Creepy how the banner ad at the very beginning was... in Finnish? Of all the languages, it's my native one for some reason 🤷♂
For a second I honestly thought that was the point, that it was the illusion - "no matter who you are, you'll see this ad in your language", resulting in a momentary brain explosion 😅
29:42 "WTF HOW IS THAT WORKING THAT WELL?" my dumbass
20:18 anyone else got a problem switching perspective on this one?
All of these size illusions are always presented in 2D
I have had only one functional eye since 2020. The two line vertical horizontal illusion worked on me.
I just watched a video that said that the carpenter effect was not that case. It said that when viewed thru one eye the rural area group didnt show any difference then the urban group, they saw the illusion the same which contradict what was said in this video. ua-cam.com/video/BJ6amzHVkeI/v-deo.htmlsi=DS94bHo3BVAYbA8T @7:55
youre telling me that human brains get rollback netcode before ultimate
Not to be that guy but its always confused me that people said you cant see both sides of the necker cube because I can do it you just have to stay in kind of an in-between state of the transition
I experience motion after effect when I play geometry dash for too long
I only see the spinning lady spinning clockwise :/
I imagine you're a Peter Watts fan?
Being independent the politician comparison is worthless to me This video is excellent sans the manimal assumption. - you've been skroogled.
25:52 These japanese people don't really age do they? Their hair just goes grey and stuff
OK
25:20 ???
affter effects cooked

(198)))}
First 500 😎
Why do you sound like a video essayist?
Because that's what he is.
I don't remember nixon needing to be explained to to not to use flame throwers on child combatants. Also, that the 4th ammendment probably should remain intact.
3:56 wut.
new duncan clarke just dropped
Commenting for the algorithm. Such high quality videos 👌
1:55 when i first saw this thing I immediately thought of combining the arrows to make X on both sides therefore answering the illusion
such a fun video! the comprehensive analysis of the illusions were great
That Obama comparison is so…. vague to say the least…. For me he is a bad guy. So it’s always about perspective.
what about hearing illusions? like "green needle / brain storm"
