    For Those of us who

    he was a stone cold

Ive watched the NBA since 1966. I havent watched since 2016. But, in my time, Bird was the most interesting player Ive ever seen. He would bring something new and different to every game I watched. Bestvall around player Ive ever seen.

Great reaction! Larry didn’t miss that shot. He intentionally passed it to himself off the backboard. And then the shot went in.

    • @Gracie-SavedByGrace

Correct. He didn't miss, he was passing it to himself.
There is also a highlight of this same type of play but with Dennis passing it off the backboard to Larry for the bucket.

@Gracie-SavedByGrace I've seen that play its crazy I don't think I've ever seen it done like that ever before or after. Dennis Johnson is one of the most underrated players of all time and his connection with Bird has to be one of the greatest all time. McHale and Parish are supposed to be the other 2 to make up the big 3 but DJ and Ainge gave opposing players hell too.

Larry Legend is definitely the GOAT! It's a damn shame injuries took him out of playing the game, If he were healthy for 3-4 more seasons a lot more people would recognize his GOATness!

That left hand bounce pass at 6:30 while on the move to a streaking DJ was absolutely insane bro.

If you want to watch full games, I recommend watching the 71 point game between Larry and Michael Jordan. It’s one of the best games I’ve ever seen.

Those who say Larry’s “unathletic” define athleticism ONLY as “run super-fast and jump really high” - totally discounting hand-eye coordination, the ability to twist any which way and still shoot accurately…they ignore his stamina (when everyone else was sweating and gasping for air, he was still fresh and ready to keep playing).

Agreed! There is a finesse or agile type of athletism and then there is brute force or so called explosive athletism.
Some players have some of both types, while some players are gifted with more of one than the other.

I love watching LB fake opposing players out of their shorts. Especially when it’s another HOF player. Patrick Ewing early in this clip is a great example

Awesome reactions to our Larry Legend. When he put the ball up on the glass and then caught it he was passing it to himself. When Isaiah did that to Larry's head it wasn't in being upset it was because Larry winked at him. It was hilarious. Isaiah tells the story. When he got 60 on the Hawks Doc Rivers said Larry yelled "Money" on the shot. There will never be anyone like this man again. Maybe similar but not like him. He literally had no holes in his game.

It was Detroit Pistons Dennis Rodman who made the stupid statement that "if Larry Bird was black, he'd be just another good player." That was an extremely ignorant thing to say. Yet Dennis Rodman was never able to defend Larry Bird.

I agree that in their prime the celtics had a lot of options, especially with how synergetic their playstyle was. But a lot of it was bird making his teammates into superstars.
Robert Parrish averaged 9 pts, 5 rebounds and 2 assists per game for his first few seasons, until he got traded to boston, where, 1 year later, his production had doubled in almost every metric measurable
Kevin Mchale, on the other hand, started as a bench warmer on the boston roster for 2 years, then came up the second string for another season, before taking over as the main PF of the team in 83-84

No one that knows doesn’t start their team with Larry. Even Jordan fans would say that from that era. I know I say that, and Jordan was my favorite player. Larry’s the greatest team mate you could ever have.

PZO, my dude… you’ve got to check out some Kevin McHale videos !
“How good was Kevin McHale Really?”
He had some of the nastiest post moves in NBA history, damn near unguardable.
Sir Charles Barkley says McHale was his toughest matchup, and has said it MANY times.
McHale’s nicknames included “The Black Hole” and “The Man of 1000 Moves”. When he got going in the low post, his defenders were said to be in his “Torture Chamber”.
Another thing you need to check out is how the Celtics played *as a team* , especially in the 1985-86 season.
“1986 Boston Celtics Tribute - The Beautiful Game”
The TEAM play style was almost as fluid and graceful as a ballet, with insanely good passing and damn-near hive minded unity of purpose.

I believe Thomas was just putting his arm around Bird's shoulder. I'm sure there was a smile on his face then and when he, not roughly, pushed Bird's head, as if saying 'you sob, you got us'.
That's why Bird didn't turn around to see, WTF?.

Great reaction, young man. You are very knowledgeable in the sport and you're right on point. You are very honest and set aside any bias. I remember watching basketball in the late 60s and 70s, the game was much more physical then, too many foul calls nowadays.

Thomas hit Birds head because he asked Thomes who's guarding me in front of the pistons huddle. As Thomes counted 3 white defenders, Bird laughed and asked "do you have no brothers?". Bird made this last shot after he faked white Benson.

Isiah wasn't mad at Bird, when he shoved him in the back of the head, they were friends but Bird told Isiah that Benson (The white player) that Detroit put on Bird had no chance! The back story is Benson went to IU who Bird originally played for and Benson was dogging Bird and probably one of the reasons Bird left IU, Bird embarrassed Benson every chance he could. I could be wrong but I believe the game Mchale scored 54 was when Benson was guarding him so Bird kept feed Mchale the ball just to embarrass Benson :)

    Enjoyed your reaction!!
I'm pretty sure that Isaiah's ruffle of Bird's hair going to the tunnel was more of a "Ok, ya got us this time dude." I don't think it was malicious. I could be wrong though.
I too wish Larry hadn't sacrificed his body as he did so that he could have played longer. Due to the way he was raised, it just wasn't in his nature to not give his all for his job.

Its pretty obvious to me that Larry is underrated and not talked 13:33 about because he is white. The narrative has been pushed that Bird w as overatted because hes supposedly a white boy who got favored because he's white. The problem is when she watch him play you see that he can do anything he wants on that vourt. It doesn't matter who you are.
