In the last two years I’ve had the following and I’m back in a Sti
1 Golf r
2Audi RS3
3 Focus RS
4 Civic Type R
They are all amazing in their own way however the Sti makes you feel more alive! It’s more connected to the driver. My RS3 was over 600hp but could never get the car up to speed that would make me feel alive ( without jail time). Sti is fun doing 60kmh. My comment is late to the party but hopefully it helps someone decide their next car
I just bought my first sti 1.5months ago. After 15 years of wanting my dream car I found a 2019 sti at a dealership with 57k miles and one previous owner for a good price. I'm still smiling everyday. It feels so surreal driving it. No engine mods, I have done some small cosmetic mods and put a Awe Touring catback on it last week. Sounds so good!
This video has actually sold me on going from my Mustang to a Subaru. Though slower, it seems like it will be a better car that I need in my life. Very good video 👍🏼
Glad to have helped
The AWD believe it or not puts the power down on the road better and feels 😅, so where a mustang would spin the tires here you have GO power !! And it’s easy to upgrade to insane power just make sure you do your tunes!
Can't lie. Never thought I would get one. But I came from a Camaro. And yes bit slower but in the inclement weather even with not so great tires. It was amazing I felt comfortable in it. Right now I can care less about power. So yea Subaru is really good
The AWD system in the winter with decent all seasons, at a minimum, is a game changer. While AWD does NOT help you stop faster it does help you accelerate and maintain grip at a higher threshold than front or rear wheel drive.
@@missbee4696 it’s not easy to make power. It needs a million supporting mods. Getting 100whp costs 10k+. If this guy put $10k in his mustang he’d be flying. Great car when it’s in stock form or with some small driver mods
These vids and speaking to you sold me on getting my STI as my daily to replace my ‘92 miata. Do not regret my decision, if gas mileage doesnt bother you, then great daily
I towed a uhaul trailer full of crap with my old '17 STI and it really showed it had some balls. Miss the power and rumble of the 2.5L but I'm happy now with my Golf R. Love what you've done with your build and a bit sad to hear you're moving on.
Have a 2019 STI limited. Most enjoyable car I've ever owned. I live off of a dirt road and look forward to a controlled power slide around the final curve before getting home. Good times.
Well said and very true and valid points. I have been daily driving mine since 2019, it's amazing what $37K got you back then. I took the STI for granted and didn't appreciate what it was until I stated looking to sell it and move on. When this crazy car bubble started, I could off load my STI for essentially the price I paid for it so I started looking.
I was looking to step up into another class, but when test driving cars in the $50K-$60K range, I just didn't connect to them, even though they were superior on paper in almost every way. The STI is a unique raw analog car that doesn't have much (or any) competition its price point and getting rid of it didn't make sense to me. When the announced the ICE STI is dead, I decided it's staying with me for good.
The CTR and GRC seem like a great alternative, but you can't buy one at MSRP, STI's sold at or below MSRP all day long. The STI isn't for everyone, but for those who connect with them, it's a great car for (at the time) an affordable price.
I feel the exact same way we have all the same boxes. As a mom who loves to drive you have listed EVERY reason I bought this car. Practical and unbeatable for all the reasons listed !!
I am TORN with keeping it clean and keeping it low km though … they’re not making a Manuel GAS (real) car any more. I bought the 2020 fully loaded; she was my daily for a year but I’m approaching 30k km 😔there’s something equally as special to keeping her in the garage!
I find myself driving my Golf TDI a bit more again for that reason. So I consider that a downside 🤣 i respect her too much. Lol. I enjoyed your video and someone putting it out there. ALL TRUE.
The only downside is possible speeding tickets 😉☺️
Ah yes, sweet, gotta drive it in the winter! too fun & does so well! if snow, esp deep snow at all, its best on the stock struts if you saved those, then put coil overs back on when the weathers getting nicer.
Great Video as always I have the 2021 STI the only thing with this being a daily is at every light or just cruising on the highway speed on the GSP or worse yet Turnpike people Push up lol wanting to Run
Your absolute right your vid’s sold me on to buy my sti😂
Love my WRX. These are great daily cars man!
Hehe on my 2015 WRX I have a 2.5 inch hitch mount where the rally light should go. Bike rack. Could buy a ski rack but we usually take the Sienna skiing 🤷🏻♂️
Honestly, the only thing it’s bad at, is MPG. But for an enthusiast, one of the best 4 banger sounding car you can get, awd, 4 door w 5 seat belts which i bring my homies in, big brakes for safety, timeless design, stick shift is god like. As long as you maintain it, it’s the perfect all around car. A lot of cars may be faster but they look like uber eats delivery and sounds like a dyson vacuum so don’t @me. lol
I drive a 19 Sti and that damn thing has been nothing but the goat for any road condition I've faced. This 4 wheel monster dominates in the snow and I'm only rocking all seasons
every time I watch a STi video I regret not getting one when I had the chance lol
Love Subarus simply because it’s a platform you can’t half ass. The amount and quality of parts directly translates into the car. And when it’s all said and done you gotta re-program the ecu like a simple robotics robot (a good tuner).
I daily my 21’ STi and I honestly love it because I am a spirited driver but can also take it easy when I want to but some may find the suspension of the STi a little too stiff. I don’t mind it personally but your passengers will definitely notice.
Would you say the sti could handle a road trip
From Florida to maybe New Jersey ?
i agree best daily and enjoy it man. only thing you need to worry about is the salt and u can get an undercarriage cleaner on amazon tht easily cleans it off
not the video i needed to find while I'm telling myself don't get another Subaru lol. Great video! have the newer Subaru's had any rust issues? i know normal maintenance and taking care of them avoids a lot of it, but curious.
Haha haven’t had any issues with rusting at all.
@@Scoobyfreak86 great to hear. i just moved up to the north east, they like to paint the roads white with salt
Great points. It would've been an even better if Subaru offered them in hatch form.
Also for sub $40k it was a no-brainer purchase. Now they're charging STi prices for the new WRX. Makes me think if/when they ever drop a new STi, it's going to be in the $50k price range which will put a lot of buyers off because that's a whole other tier of cars that are faster + "better" than the STi will (probably) be.
After I pay off my 23 Titan Pro4x, I’ll get one of these beauties 😭
Question on alignment.. what’s good amount negative camber to have for a daily sti? Or if any camber should you have ?
A good compromise between handling and tire wear is -2.0 front and -1.5 rear.
Really debating if I want a 2017-2020 STi or just get the 2022 WRX as my next daily. Thinking about it I can get the 22’ WRX for the same price but do I still go for my ultimate dream car (STI)?
Life is short. If you want the STI, go for it.
Quick question, just noticed the recent add on for the battery tender, where do you have the plug routed to? I have mine going towards the windshield wipers but its not the best looking
I’ve had that one for about 2 years now. It was just always covered by the password jdm battery cover. They are bolted to the positive and negative terminals.
@Scoobyfreak86 haha, no wonder I never noticed it 😆😆 what about the other side? Down and out the wheel well? Or is it going up to the windsheild?
Just through the bottom of the tbw lower cover. It slips right through easily.
Will you be doing the JDM mirror conversion if you keep the car?
If I decide to hang onto it, I’m not sure if I’ll visit that mod again. Maybe down the line, but version 2 would be simpler on the exterior and more focused on a motor build.
I know how to get 32mpg on 93 octane on the sti. My 21 actually did it several times. Granted, you have to do between like 50 to 58 mph, but I did it on a fairly flat 10 mile road from one town here in NE Pa to my home, in the Poconos. Yes, it was like 78 degrees, and you have to do that speed. However, reading the comments below that state that the mileage is horrible, I really don't agree. If I compare this car with my 4Runner, that suv gets 17.5 to 18 on the interstate. So on average even in winter, if I can get between 22 and 26 mpg with reasonable driving, that's perfectly fine.
Also I totally agree with you. After having multiple cars, including 3 WRX models, I have once again returned to the venerable STI. Can't be beat. Analog beauty in a digitally effeminate world. How many cars even come with 6 speeds anymore, as you say?
22-25 is easily doable in the sti on the freeway at 70mph. However getting even 16 mpg in the city is difficult to do. I average 12-14 in the city.
they also hold value
Do you have any mods that you took off the car for sale?
Anything that was removed was already sold
Question my Sti is stock besides catback exhaust, changed the 02 sensor twice and just got the code a again for the same thing dealer keeps telling me it’s from the catback don’t know what to do besides going back to stock don’t want to mod due to warranty any ideas thanks!
Catback wouldn’t effect the 02 sensors. Dealer is blaming the catback because they don’t want to fix it. What is the code that it is throwing?
@@Scoobyfreak86 p0137
Check the 02 wiring as well. It may not just be the sensor.
@@Scoobyfreak86 will do thank you 🙏
agree with scooby's comment below; the dealer just doesn't wanna touch anything that isn't OEM and quick to point fingers. If they could blame tints for CELs, they probably would.
How long did you run the stock tune on it for?
I think around 5k miles or so.
Did you sell the headlights and taillights?
Yes the were sold a while ago along with many of the exterior parts.
Sometimes I feel like I made a mistake in picking the wrx over the sti 🤔 then With stuff like the gr Corolla coming out I feel like I made a a bad choice but I honestly love my subi. :)
No shame in picking the wrx. It’s a great car. Enjoy it while you have it and the next move you make will make it that much better.
Get a downpipe, exhaust and tune and you’ll never regret it. Custom tune though. I roll raced a scatt pack and pulled away 60ish to around 125. Sti is really nice but don’t regret your choice just make it great
@@Visca_Motion_Picturesis the Cobb tune bad for it?
Out of curiousity. Are you still selling it? If not you could always do a v2 of it!
Still for sale, but mulling over a few options at the moment.
@@Scoobyfreak86 im eager to see what you choose!!
but ur selling it tho :/
Am afraid of dealing with leaking on this car.
Leaking of what?
This is the perfect video to combat the garbage Donut Media is putting out and the toxic fan base they have bashing Subaru's over some of the videos they put out painting a bad picture.. It's unfortunate.
Yeah…I won’t even get into all that.
they should bash the Mustangs that bash crowds lol 😅OK low blow there but I had to!!
Evo x MR
An STI has brutal, totally brutal fuel economy. So as a daily unless you love going to the pump this may not be a great choice. Its baby brother the WRX with the DIT FA that has good fuel economy even when modified. Mine has the better WHP and more torque than the OEM STI which is more than adequate for a daily. (276 WHP @5600 and 329 lb-ft @3450 both greater than OEM STI output). Sure you sacrifice DCCD, the Brembo brakes and hydraulic steering but it is a daily. The money you save you can put into some very respectable modiciations.
You don’t buy these for fuel economy ;)
The biggest thing it has is the bullet proof trans rated to handle 650-750 whp. Also the mpg isnt that much worse than the Wrx. I get 70-100 miles less per tank in my Sti vs the 2020 Wrx I traded for it.
@@littlefoot4417 For a “daily” fuel economy is important for some of us. My bank account makes that a reality and when you add in the volatility of the price of oil it cements my situation. If my choices are no fun with a bland car or fun with compromise I will take fun with compromise. If one has money to literally burn that’s great go for it.
@@WRXMAN-ms2mm totally! And that’s completely fine! But an STI we just don’t look at the fuel economy
@@littlefoot4417 This video is about an STI being a good daily. I think an STI is an iconic car. It was and is a car that many can identify coming down the road before you can see it. Big output in OEM form from only 2.3 to 2.5 turbocharged litres plus AWD. So many great DIY modification opportunities.
Great for country roads, deep snow and the track where you can wind it out, rev it high and exploit it’s power and torque.
Stop and go city traffic, parking lots with low rpm driving is not its habitat.
