    I wanna be an MD but a PHD could be more prestigious. Nothing we do as doctors would be possible without the great work by PHDs.

    'Why get a PhD when you can be real doctor? Like My dad always says the people who do PhD are the one's who don't get into Med School '
    🤣🤣

      real doctors are those with PhDs. MDs are undergraduate qualification degrees that aren't even considered doctorates in countries like Germany, I think you mean "physicians".

    This really hits hard. As a masters student, it’s the post docs & Senior PhD’s who do more “advising” than the advisor.

    What is the point of all that hard work getting a PhD anyway only to end up being exploited afterwards and settling for an average sad miserable overworked middle class life? I really am wondering what im signing up for? Unless im missing something great that those that have previously done it aren't sharing?

      +Andile Mthombeni (andilethereader) Do something that makes money. That's what I've been seeing in the entrepreneurial scene. If you're in science, like I am, don't think in the box of your field of study. Try studying other subjects besides biology (e.g. math, physics, chem and engineering). For example, don't think of biochemistry as a career. Think of it as a skill. That way you would be really sure what you want after learning through so many subjects and skills. If you're a PhD in science, believe that your question contributes to society in the short /or long-run. If you're a PhD in engineering, think of something that doesn't get replaced easily and only you can do it. Ofcourse, in a company setting, you'll have to deal with patents and developing a product is extremely difficult because new technology will always replace the old.

      Just an update. I decided that the company environment doesn't really suit my personality. Others may think otherwise. I agree with Gabriel. Research is a life long passion and pursuit of mine, and I intend to live that way regardless of what society thinks of me. Doing a PhD is a must if you're ready to commit yourself into a subject of discipline. I think what others think do not matter as long as you believe a life doing research is the happiest thing you can ever do on Earth. I explored plenty of options in the technical field and nothing else convinces me I would be more happy doing besides learning about something specific.

      You do PhD to become a scientist and advance our knowledge about nature. That's truly the only reason one should be doing it. If you simply want to make money then there are more direct and efficient paths

      I have no desire to work in academia. Government labs are far less toxic.

    Should always start with less prestigious journals that are not as stuck-up. And i never understand this 50 million author business...insanity, someone needs to abolish that idea...mxm

    I like science. I like to think , read and design experiments. I can even perform experiments. I even have the patience to troubleshoot the experiments or carry on after they fail. What I don't like though is all the crap that comes along with it. Writing grants , publishing paper , getting rejected and reformatting the paper. That's so shit

    Can anyone tell me, why the column from which Ben eluted at 3:55 is transparent? What type of packing material might it be?

    • @minerofskies2451
      @minerofskies2451 6 років тому

      Xiangxi Meng
      It might look transparent because he disturbed the beads prior to eluting the protein. Otherwise, I'd say it looks like your standard glutathione beads.

    • @Seorful
      @Seorful 4 роки тому

      Silica can look like this if you use DCM as eluent. But i dont think that silica would be good for proteins.

    Yeah sure you might make more money at the beer tub in the short term, but you cant work there for the long term. PhD will eventually get you to places in the long run.
