He should direct a Mr. Rogers Neighborhood film that would somehow intertwine with the Black Lodge, and he could play Mr. Rogers, and Dennis Hopper could play Mr. McFeely.
I literally tell people the same thing about my art. Whenever someone asks me what state of mind I was in, I always ask them, "What does this matter? What state of mind are YOU in?"
That ending touched me in a really beautiful way. I don't know if my experience of the film had everything in mind or that maybe I lost a couple important pieces but as the man himself says, what matters is it was *my* experience and I think that just makes it all click perfectly, hearing the words right out of his mouth. My interpretation of the movie and of the ending just leaves me feeling a whole stir of conflicted emotions in the best way.
I never understand why people try to "decipher" such-and-such movie's ending. Of course it's going to be hard to decipher, it's not meant to be deciphered. To decipher it would mean that there is one true meaning of the ending, which is rarely the case, especially with directors like Lynch. Interpret the ending as you please, and sure, listen to other interpretations, maybe incorporate them with yours, but in the end, the ending is what you make of it, and not some universal truth to be "deciphered". There's a reason he left it to be so abstract. Once you realise this, it's not that hard.
You can't dig up the author.. Exactly. I think the Buddha said something about living/writing as if it's your last statement, bc it is. The next day or breath is not promised.
This is basically the opposite of what teachers in school want you to do when you are reading a book or looking at a poem. They think you must see things exactly as the author envisioned.
Hm kind of. I mean teacher suck dont get me wrong, but what they should be aiming for is teaching you to better fundament your interpretation. All interpretations are valid, but they are not equally valid if that makes sense.
LMFAO @ "Sally, Bob, and Jim" To listen to him you'd think Lynch was some kindly old farmer from Montana. He gives no hint about the deranged, twisted, talented mind that lies beneath that benign exterior.
I like the sentiment but the "exterior" here doesn't seem that benign to me. The statement he's making here about his view of (at least) his work says so much and how he puts it is really incredible.
kayEnt3rtainm3nt my only guess is that it is implying he would be good at macromanagement in a keyboard heavy videogame like Starcraft because of how his fingers move in this video
Man it honestly sucks a bit reading these comments. I get most probably just wanna find the source of the meme / don't realize it's fake yet but damn. What he's saying here and *how* he's saying it is so forward and potent that it feels like he's reaching across the screen and shaking our heads, yelling that his own word is irrelevant to the purpose of his art. I won't say you can't be more direct than this but if you just listen to him it's very obvious what he's saying. And I think his message is so worthwhile but sadly all these comments care about is finding a stupid joke that doesn't exist. What a shame and what a letdown.
-Makes some of the most surreal, cerebral movies of all time.
-Refuses to elaborate.
