After the 15th pull, I’d be setting it back on the curb. What a POS machine! I have a 20 year old Briggs edger that will start on the first or second pull……. every time.
You can just stick a screwdriver or a pick in one of the holes on the recoil once you wind it up. It will hold it in place for you while you tie your knot.
I love saving old machines, but this is one I probably wouldn't have messed with. The margins on edgers are too small to mess with one that is missing parts and has multiple issues. I don't mess with them if they need more than a fuel line or a carb clean, unless I have a parts machine. I am very picky about what I sell. I only sell machines that are 100% complete and functional.
I had one that came to shop and no start, ran only for 20 minutes he said, no compression, no oil in engine and piston and cylinder destroyed 😢😢😢 Read the instructions people 😮
I don't know how much these bring in your area, but they bring about $50 to $60 in my area. You won't be able to make any money off of it if you fix everything that is wrong with it.
You’re probably spot on with the 50$ mark if it was in good cosmetic and functional shape. With all plastic damage on this one, I wouldn’t have felt good selling it and ended up giving it away to a neighbor that knew the situation with it
I have one of these machines. It's got to be one of the worst designed machines. Mine is sitting in the corner of my garage not being used. The pull cord doesn't have enough throw to start it. Maybe 15 pulls if lucky. I dont know if that's normal or not. I don't have your patience.

Wow! I figured with it being 4 cycle people would be happy they don't need to mix oil and gas, but not forget they need oil all together!

Even with extra length on the cord it did feel like a short throw causing excess pulls. I wasn't impressed with the build either.
Looks and sounds like a real cheap machine.
