@@roccstar973I feel like I’ve got the tone pretty much nailed on my gp10 using the strings patch with normal pickups turned on, fairly similar pedals; gated reverb, ambient stuff, fuzz, and the chorus in my jc90. I put both signals through a Yamaha mt8x. Can’t for the life of me get the synth stuff right on my sy1000, I’ll bet upon spending a small amount of time in tone studio I could get it a bit closer though.
Massive request but I am hoping that you can get us a cover/tab video of you playing "I Want" on the Two Star and Dream Police Album! Thankyou for creating all of this content for us!
forget the guitar stuff, ur videos are some of the prettiest ive seen. the color grading and grain is gorgeous, gotta figure out how you get that look LOL
if i’m not mistaken, the original VG8 came with A and B sections of presets, but you could get the S1 expansion card to get the C and D sections, and if this is the D62, then you must have either a VG8EX (which has sections A,B,C,D,E) or the S1 expansion card
There are no open strings being played so there is no capo needed. Tune down to e.g. C standard and see if it's still playable given the floppy strings. If not, tune up each string half a semitone to see if it gets better
Not sure about that, I looked up the patch listing of the Vg-88 and I spot a 'BOWED' patch (www.roland.com/us/support/by_product/vg-88/support_documents/ca921311-4a85-4b39-852a-a78d9b845154/). It's called 'BowedPad' on the Vg-8 btw
@@niromusique Thanks for the detailed response man. I’ll have to find that manual myself as that link leads to a 404 for me. Just a few questions (that might be easily answered if i just read the manual): - Did you need any additional hardware to get this thing integrated into your rig besides the GK2 pickup? Such as a 13-pin MIDI cable or something? - Are the default presets contained on a default SD card (like the expansion you mentioned) or are they hardcoded into the unit? Many thanks for being another pioneer in the Mk.gee guitar community man. I chased the tone and figured things out roughly but you have the means and time to make in-depth tutorials so seriously, thanks for being an essential part of this community man. Would love to work on something together if you’re ever interested in collabing
@@jac.andrew Hey man, I appreciate it so much (definitely down for a collab)! Just trying to help each other out in this adventure is all we can do. - Indeed, all I needed was a 13-pin MIDI cable (got one from Amazon) and something to ensure the pickup of the GK2 stays put. I used some double-sided tape and rubber strips to hold it, but I'll have to find a better way as it keeps tilting when I rest my palm on it. However, it conveniently fits between the bridge and bridge pickup of my Jazzmaster :) - The default presets are hardcoded into the unit. I removed the expansion card to see whether the presets would disappear, but they didn't. At least, the interesting ones are still there (such as the Mk.gee/Andrew Aged sounds). If you have more questions about this thing, feel free to ask.
@@niromusique Of course man. Thanks for the info, it’s really useful. I’m really close to biting the bullet on an 88 but i’m a little worried that it might be more of a novelty piece of gear than an integral part of my chain. Do you find it to be an essential part of your chain now? Collabing internationally would be sick. I DM’d you on instagram, would be sick to connect. Thanks again man
@@jac.andrew Yeah man, I had my fair share of mindlessly buying gear just to sound like a specific artist (hell, I even tried to copy Kevin Parker from Tame Impala). However, I'm now asking myself whether it actually adds value to my sound and if I'm not blindly copying someone else (even though I have the thick strings like Mk.gee, but anyways :) ). I use the VG8 a LOT while producing and it actually makes playing guitar way more fun and interesting to me. Being able to make these crazy ambient soundscapes with just my guitar and some effects pedals... it's so worth it imo. Of course, there are other ways to achieve this but purchasing this device really opened my eyes to be more creative with the guitar and e.g. use it more as a synth/ambient device.
first Mk.gee related video that gets the guitarsynth sound in the mix! good job
All praise the VG8 🙏
That first hammer in the intro always cuts through me hard
Dude, the Roland VG-8 sounds soooo sick 😭
Thanks for the tutorial, much appreciated!
Thanks for watching man!
Now we need a rig rundown.
THIS! He has the tone nailed!

Wow! Great! Please tell how to reach this tone!
keep up the awesome work and please do candy by Mk.Gee
Candy is coming soon!
Hey man great work, really appreciate it. Are you aware of any plugins to achieve this sound and did you convert your guitar into a baritone?
Crazy sound man...
You only use the VG-8 to achieve this?
Only VG-8 yeah!
@@niromusiquevg8 only or gk switched to a mix of both vg and guitar?
gotta have a you got it tutorial being made PLZ
What patch in the VG8 is this?
i also need to know 😭 like is this a default patch or did he buy one of the expansion SD cards???
It's D-62 'BowedPad'. Not sure if it's on the expansion card or default, but I do have the 'Traditional: Country/Folk/Blues/Jazz' card

Tone tutorial I am begging you 😭
don't have thick strings is there tuning where I could place capo on ?

How's it coming with that Ableton plugin video? I'm eager lol
Running vg8 into the pedalboard (flanger)?
I’ve got an extra vg8 for sale btw if anyone’s looking
Great, thanks!! What’s the chain for the sound bro?
Which Jazzmaster is that? I'm currently considering buying one.
what preset does he use in the vg3?
good job man. the vg-8 goes hard, wish I could cop one. any idea if the vg-88 has the same preset as the vg8 that you used fir this?

do you think the vg99 is better than the vg8? or does the vg8 have something special to it the vg99 doesnt? thinking about getting one or the other

How did you even find a vg8
Well doen
why am I trying to play using tabs, but it turns out to be garbage, the notes didn’t work out for me and you, do you have a pitch?
A pitch? Are you playing in A standard?
Did you have any issues getting the vg-8 to pick up your low A (6th string)
I haven't had any issues with that. It has a harder time picking up the higher strings
