I was lucky enough to listen to these prototype. We started of with the big NX extreme on some James brown and John William symphonic music. It was amazing in terms of clarity , sound stage and depth. I have never heard things as deep as this. I haven't heard that much, but I did hear some high end Focal and B&W. We then spent most of our time listening to these prototype. I listened to Yo Yo Ma Bach Cello Suite no. 1 . The sound and holographic effect is unbelievable, it sounded like Yo Yo Ma was in front of you, and then we started with some bluegrass music from Alison Krauss. Wow that was out of this world. I wasn't exaggerating. I can still vividly remember Alison being there in the middle closer to you than the guitar slightly to the right, while Dobro was slight back to the left, and the bass was a bit further back to the left, and then the fiddle was in the back to the left closer to the Dobro. We then listened to a double bass solo playing blues. The sound again was very lively as if the performer was there, and also the sound stage is bigger than the cello earlier, and it sounded like a big double bass rather than a smaller Cello. Finally a Jazz piece with some live audiences in a restaurant environment. You can "hear" the location of the audience from their utensils sound, while the band was playing slightly back. Wow that was impressive. I will bring some big Symphonic piece and maybe some electronic ambient music to experience the 3D sound effect again when I visit Dan next time. He was very patient with my request and I really appreciate it.

The NX-Tremes will do a lot of things that these won't do. They have greater dynamics, higher detail and resolution, handle more power, play louder, work better in a large room, etc. Nothing does what they do. Hi Danny, I’m really excited about these. I love the enthusaium for your own products - it's infectious! That said, as this is a product and since you can’t control all the variables of such product-like different rooms, different levels, different equipment, and individual hearing-wouldn’t it make sense to have Erin demo them in your space first, and then send him the product for a full review in his own setup (as many have suggested in the comments)? I know a lot of people, myself included, would really appreciate that approach.
I’ll chat with Danny about this and think it’s worth exploring. I REALLY want Erin to come down and hear them in the shed. That would mean the world to me. Erin’s a great guy-very genuine-and I would love to let him hear these in what I believe is the perfect environment.

I know there are a lot of people who would benefit from Erin's insights. As much as I appreciate the importance of a room - you can't always expect customers to have that level of infrastructure. Me to my wife: GR-Research is coming out with some cool new speakers. Wife: I thought you were already happy with the X-LS Encores. Why do you need anything else! Me shyly: I just like seeing what they are doing. Not going to purchase anymore speakers (to myself, not now, but maybe sneak them in when I get a decent bonus) Haha!
I loved this video for many reasons but mostly because you talked about the speakers I own...the LGK 2.4's. I remember when you did those sound clips a uear or so ago and I made my choice in the comments and had literally just ordered the LGK 2.4s from you the day before and you replied to me in the comments I was going to be verrry pleased with my pick when I see the results ... Yep, I picked the LGK 2.4 sound clip!
That 3 inch driver with a bullet is very similar to my PC speakers the Logitech Z-2300 which for me are the best 2.1 PC speakers ever made and they have also the bullet once with a little equalization they sound fantastic
my current desktop has Dayton 3.5" full rangers with the copper bullet, paired with a 2.1 amp and 8" sub under the desk. no crossover, other than the 150 hz for the sub I've built my share of original 2 and 3 way designs , but since i tried this several years ago I have had no urge to change it (other than build a nicer cabinet for them) . Like he said, they're not for playing loud, but the midrange clarity is natural and beautiful. I can imagine how great it will sound with these super high quality peerless drivers
Whats funny is I have been waiting for months for the 4' Tang Band drive to get back in stock so I could do a 2 way system like you have done. The idea of a single driver doing the most important range of 200 to 15K is so important. Nice video and good job explaining why a light weight wide range driver is so important to have.
I have been enjoying learning new things from your channel. Even checked out your website, which I do not normally do (totally agree with you about burn in. My bi-amped KRK studio monitors were brittle, lifeless, and sterile when new, but today are brilliant). I have to admit, I am very curious what you would make of my own home speakers; the Canadian made Reference 3A Micro Master (today called MM De Capo) that is a "tweeter enhanced" full range crossoverless design that only has a single cap on the 3khz-30khz tweeter, while the main transducer has a range of 45hz to 7khz and is direct to amp with no filtering. Like you I prefer the smoothness of a soft dome tweeter. I bought these after weeks of shopping and listening and being very disappointed with what I heard in the size and price class I wanted (small and on stands at around $2k-$3k). When the salesman pulled them out and plugged them in they were astonishing. Blew everything else away; Infinity, KEF, Polks... They are still astonishing today. Absolutely transparent with a wide and deep, richly detailed sound stage. Close your eyes and they disappear. I suspect, though, that after many thousands of hours of play time and a few decades of age, they are becoming mechanically worn, though the natural rubber suspension still seems perfect today. They are designed to use an external crossover if so desired, though I always figured why add anything to the signal path when its nearly perfectly pure and sounds amazing as it is. But now you have me wondering if there may be some improvements to be had, or perhaps some tuning that can compensate for ageing. One thing for sure, I think they would benefit from some no-res.
Wow, very exciting Danny. I'm a sound stage Junkie and can hardly wait for these to be released. I have had a lot of experience with Definitive Technologies speakers over the last two decades and some of the BP series speakers with active woofer technology have made me very happy with respect to sound stage. Really excited to hear what you have done. Cheers, Kelly
i tried myself a fullrange driver build, with ScanSpeak 10F/8414G10, its really 3" size, i choose large sealed box filled with absorption, i could not make them sound good, had to increase the highpass on them, only at 300hz the started to sound good. those things had pretty high xmax. maybe the box type or drivers itself, i tried a tweeter with them and that had better highs. you really have to know stuff to get things right, and the time to experiment, and driver specific adjustment like GR-r have. it all depend on your expectation, high end audio is a high goal to aim for.
Me too! I was leaning toward OB (have the GR servo subs) but this could change that goal. ( I do have Maggie LRS w/ the GR crossover.....but I've no finished assembly)
This is so exciting! The whole speaker design and building process is so intriguing to me. Pity you’re like 10000km away, Danny haha. Looking forward to seeing this come to life
You know as an Engineer, I know a little, never build a speaker... But I know a bit about R&D and setting up a fab for mass made or even low number count, how much work and effort that takes. We all know time is money and it's not a small task to put your own resources into that. Very much looking forward to this.
This video got me very excited. I have always been a firm believer in small wide band drivers (and multiples) for getting a fast coherent midrange. I can only imagine how good the upgraded versions will be with the 8inch servo drivers.
Super excited for this one Danny, I haven’t purchased a speaker from you yet, but this will be it. I love the look of this one, reminds me of Ushers a bit. What price range will we be looking at? Are you finding these need lots of toe in to sound their best or more straight into the room?
How's about Dannio Researcho's "Phenomenas" or perhaps the "Suspensias" or maybe "The Boxes with the Cyrogenic Wireage". I'd like "Mother of Tears" except I can't think of a way to tie Danny in with 2 Danzig references + 1 Argento one.
@dannyrichie9743 Thanks for your reply Danny. ...is this driver any different to most decent wideband drivers regarding mechanical breakup modes that cause poor high frequency performance ?. Have you got some secret sauce on this driver in that regard , will you be publishing measurements?.
Can I ask why the midwoofer is not flush mounted? Other options for the woodwork possible? This is little intense pattern for me 😅 (some natural oak maybe)
That woofer has a non-resonant polymer frame and is designed to be surface mounting. Colors are white with Maple sides, black with Walnut sides, and a dark grey with red walnut sides.
I can see more precision of the rear speaker set up on a geared rotatable axis. We tend to toe-in our speakers. That sends the sound outward instead of adding that precision in toward the center.
I remember very early in my audio journey, in the early '8os, hearing a demo of the Canadian Energy 22 speakers. The tweeters reportedly were the result of a million dollar research program. The pin-point imagery and physical presence of the recordings shocked me. I regretted not buying them. Similar to this design, they had a wide-band tweeter/mid that covered the the essential audio range. Time alignment wasn't an issue. I would be interested in following the outcome of this project.
We had a superb Energy dealer in Indianapolis back then, ... he also had the amazing ET push/pull planar magnetic dipoles as his flagships. Plus the rotating selection of used gear was always a reason to stop in. I can see it now, used Altec Lansing (big two-ways like model 19?), used Apogee dipole ribbons, Dahlquist DQM-9 conventional three way boxes. Shops like that help steward the hobby along for decades.
I’m just finishing up a pair of 3-way speakers, driver time alignment was a little tricky, and i ended up tilting the baffle back to get thing physically aligned in time, but you mentioned you have gotten really good at doing something in the crossover for time alignment. I am familiar with the phase offset each order imparts but that’s not enough to accommodate a 1” time alignment offset. Was wondering if you could comment on the recommended way to time align via crossover.
I watched to the end and it wasn’t technical enough for me! Probably because I’ve watched so many of your videos 😉 Plus I’ve been building speakers since I was 12 and I’m 42 now.
Remember at one time when the paper 3" tweeter was normal. My 1st set of very good sounding speakers EDS, had a 3" tweeter with an 8" whizzer cone midbass. Just had a cap and a coil for an X-over. It had a 3" hole in the front with a piece of foam glued to it. As a kid I had a blast with those.
Alresdy happy with my kapoa 5.1 in my small hifi setup but i am huge smaller speaker fan that's for sure. Smaller speakers just easily disappear in a room. Adding a tweeter on the back adds spaciousness. Nudell did that with tons of infinity designs decades ago. Id love to hear a pair but not for 4k plus as i read some here suggested lol
We played them the other day with my 300B (9 watts) amp. They sounded beautiful with the type of music we were sending them, but for some music to be played properly the 9 watt amp was a little out of juice or at its limits.
Thanks for the reveal Danny. Now just wait for an avalanche of well educated responses. 😂 edit: as others have noted, a change up to the background or lighting scheme could be very helpful.
i like the research into speakers, i can only pretend to develop new speakers.... you got me into the sound of this speaker, but i do not have the hi end room and placement option for this speaker. looking forward to other variation and design in the future that suit my needs better :)

Incredible news from the speaker lab. Love the looks and design, especially the driver in the rear, I'm all about that to get the realism and 'in the room' effect from music.
Back in the 90s I remember going to Circuit City and they had a Panasonic bookshelf stereo (bear with me) set up. The stereo was the routine stuff but those full range little speakers sounded better than they had any right to and it's at that point that I started taking "full range" speakers more seriously. Most couldn't provide everything I wanted but I have known for decades the possibilities were there. Yeah I'd love to hear these and if they do everything I think they do I'd like to buy a pair.
Well, back in the late 70's early 80's Panasonic "Thrusters" were full range PR loaded cheapo cabinets, and they seemed to get the job done quite well. First semester in college dorm those were my random roomate's speakers ... and we played music ALL the time. So I'd say mighty Panasonic had iterated their full range game in the 90's into something decent, and accessible.
@@FOH3663 Yeah those tiny little full range speakers showed me that the world of Hi-Fi (even though they weren't "Hi-Fi") doesn't have to be dominated by dome tweeters. I'm excited to hear what these sound like.
I am not even comparing myself to Danny of course, but in the course of my about 40 years as an music lover and audiophile , i ahve had , heard many speakers , i have build a couple of them also, Funny is that the best d.i.y speaker that i have ever build was also a little wide band driver augmented by a 6,5 inch mid-woofer .
There really is something special about this formula and while some folks might feel Danny and I are hyping the hell out of it - I can assure you it’s the real deal. By a wide margin, this is the best stand mount speaker I’ve ever spent time with.
@ Any idea from what will be the final price ( an around price, does not need to be precise ) ? and when can we hope to hear more about this as a complete to order product ? Thanks !
@@NewrecorddayI count myself among that subset of the DIY speaker building community for whom this general topology has been popular for well over a decade; we even have a silly little acronym for them - WAW. My absolute favourite was a tall MTM floorstanding utilizing a pair of paper cone extended range mid-woofers and a metal cone wideband, both in highly damped isolated MLTLs. Properly executed, there’s not a lot of hyperbole in saying this type of design can definitely punch above their weight in terms of cost of drivers and XO components when compared to mainstream commercial products.
I am excited about these new speakers, how do they compare to the Tyler Acoustics T1 Studio Monitors? I would love the opportunity to drive down the road and listen to them.
Id watch the whole thing if it was 3hrs! It woukd be reel cool if we got updates on the progress forward. I love small bookshelfs with good subs, but the floorsyanders with active 8’s sound really interresting.. great channel👍🏻👍🏻
Great work Danny,I just sold my Odyssey Lorelei with kismet crossovers, they were nice but ultimately didn't have the output I expected, cabinets however were first rate
@GR-Research Danny, would you consider making an "LGK Encore"? Basically an Encore with the LGK driver replacing the tweeter? Something with more bass extension than the LGK 2.1 but without the rear driver and crazy cabinet and Shunyata tech of the Aria?
A cautionary note however...I, and many others, DON'T have the luxury of pulling speakers 6 feet or more out into our listening rooms. Bummer to hear these speakers will only sound their best in that situation...
They need at least three feet. We often design speakers for specific applications and this is one of them. We do have many others that work well in less than ideal situations. Our NX Studio Monitor is a good example.
I agree, I don't think that there is a coincidence that many brands (ex KEF or Wharfedale) has a shelf in the bass for their stand-mounts to counteract this problem. My guess is that if you have the ability to bring them out from the wall, you have a larger room to begin with and could just go for floorstanders.
Danny, I already own some of your components and I love them all. Thank you! Your government is about to slap a 25% tariff on all goods from my country, which will result in probably the same tariffs coming the other way. That will probably put them out of range $ for me that really sucks 😢 Still looking forward to all your videos 😊
I have no doubt soundstage and imaging will be great but is the weight of a deep male voice preserved with the smaller drivers and the transition between the drivers right in the middle of the midrange?
The Studios sound more analytical, quicker, and offer greater resolution in the top end. The Studio vocals (especially female) sound slightly thinner and less holographic or three-dimensional but are more precise and laser-focused.
Just reposting but... To me the NX Studio Monitors are better for the application that they were designed for. They clearly have higher top end resolution and higher sensitivity. They can be used closer to the front wall as well. Basically, if it is in the signal you hear it with those speakers. They sound fantastic from top to bottom and really represent the pinnacle of stand mounted speakers. However, I find myself more drawn to the playback of the NRD speaker. When it comes to imaging, sound stage layering, separation, and realism in the vocal region, I just get completed sucked into the music and feel more immersed in it.

Mark Audio has some nice little ones too , though they are also designed for "full range" use, long excursion for the size. I started out with 3" drivers, so they are still of interest :) My current desktop speakers use 3 inchers
I been telling Ron for years to make a speaker designed by him and he said im not a speaker maker and i would say , well you have enough knowledge and you know Gary and he winked 😅
Danny, if you also include beautiful, sleek, minimalist grilles, perhaps with magnetic attachments, I expect you'll sell twice as many units, thanks to the WAF. The enclosure looks absolutely stunning, by the way. It has a strong Sonus Faber vibe.
I just can't wrap my head around a tweeter that size. What I would love is if you guys did a speaker with a RAAL tweeter and use that driver as a midrange. The Raal needs a higher than normal crossover, and I think that would be a nice match.
I quite like hearing the technical prose, lots of superlatives thrown into the mix. You need a Lazy-Susan ( Rotating Board I think you call it over there ) on your desk. Put the speakers on that, then they can spin around like a top.

After having watched many hours of your channel and reading so many of your threads on audio circle I know what you aim for in sound so hearing that giddiness is contagious. I can’t wait until you start shipping them. Wishing you all the success possible. Really appreciate all your efforts.
This is the first time I've watched one of your videos. It was awesome and super informative. I like good music but am no means a true audiophile, especially one with deep unlimited pockets. These new speakers sound so radical and game changing though that I'm subscribed and waiting for more. I also really appreciated the development/evolution lesson as well. Thank you for your time and effort.
I appreciate you sharing your knowledge on speaker design through the videos.
Hi Danny,
I’m really excited about these.
@@Newrecordday That would be awesome, Ron. I'd love that for Erin too - to truly experience the 'ultimate' setup for these speakers... Heck, I might even fly over from Australia to have a listen... I trust Erin's measurements and his insights, one of the few reviewers out there who actually put in the work (yourself included!).
I know there are a lot of people who would benefit from Erin's insights. As much as I appreciate the importance of a room - you can't always expect customers to have that level of infrastructure. Let me know if the boss comes around to the idea!

Well , all i got to say is that I recently bought the Brutes, and very happy the way they sound & perform , Danny congratulations on your new development with this new lineup....I Hope they can play loud enough to feel the vibes... Like your videos ...I find them very interesting..
Looks nice! Im exited about them! Will you send a review sample to Erins Audio Corner? Would Love to see this :)

Hey, when in Rome ...
"... tech talk?, I no afraid of no stinkin' tech talk..." 😊
That 3 inch driver with a bullet is very similar to my PC speakers the Logitech Z-2300 which for me are the best 2.1 PC speakers ever made and they have also the bullet once with a little equalization they sound fantastic
i also had those Logitech's, biggest issue was the separate subwoofer and 3" driver.
@sudd3660 I've been lucky then because after 19 years using since 2005 no subwoofer issue, only refoam 3 inch woofers I did it myself 8 years ago
my current desktop has Dayton 3.5" full rangers with the copper bullet, paired with a 2.1 amp and 8" sub under the desk. no crossover, other than the 150 hz for the sub I've built my share of original 2 and 3 way designs , but since i tried this several years ago I have had no urge to change it (other than build a nicer cabinet for them) .
I feel like that cabinet deserves some neater looking screws also. Or some nice covers for them, to make it really neat
Watching from Malaysia. I'm excited! Thinking about my studio...
I’m in Thailand. It’s going to cost us an arm and a leg to transport them here. 😊
i tried myself a fullrange driver build, with ScanSpeak 10F/8414G10, its really 3" size, i choose large sealed box filled with absorption, i could not make them sound good, had to increase the highpass on them, only at 300hz the started to sound good. those things had pretty high xmax.
maybe the box type or drivers itself, i tried a tweeter with them and that had better highs. you really have to know stuff to get things right, and the time to experiment, and driver specific adjustment like GR-r have.
it all depend on your expectation, high end audio is a high goal to aim for.
Excited to learn more!
Me too! I was leaning toward OB (have the GR servo subs) but this could change that goal. ( I do have Maggie LRS w/ the GR crossover.....but I've no finished assembly)
Pinto beans or Texas Barbecue? 😂 Just kidding! 🤣 Congratulations, Danny 👏
Very excited for you and your new speaker line. I am sure they’ll sound the part, too!
This is so exciting! The whole speaker design and building process is so intriguing to me. Pity you’re like 10000km away, Danny haha. Looking forward to seeing this come to life
Hook, line, and sinker. Starting a piggy bank for the stand mount version.
Heck yeah!
Great job and good luck! 👍
Super excited for this one Danny, I haven’t purchased a speaker from you yet, but this will be it. I love the look of this one, reminds me of Ushers a bit. What price range will we be looking at?
Are you finding these need lots of toe in to sound their best or more straight into the room?
Danny is in charge of pricing and the last time we spoke, he was looking between $3400-$3500 for the pair.
@@Newrecorddaythank you 😊 sounds about right, and with that type of cabinet and three drivers that’s quite a deal
What is the difference between this setup and a 3way setup similar to your tweeter/mid dome pod or any other variation of a 3way
Great stuff. Reminds me of Sonus Faber. Call it and Italian name.
How's about Dannio Researcho's "Phenomenas" or perhaps the "Suspensias"
or maybe "The Boxes with the Cyrogenic Wireage". I'd like "Mother of Tears" except I can't think of a way to tie Danny in with 2 Danzig references + 1 Argento one.
Hi Danny, what about the lack of linearity in the frequencies above 10khz ?. How high in the HF does it go?.
They play to 20kHz.
Even add AMTs to the front. Possibly, in the rear.
Pure silver cables used inside.
Hey Danny. These look great. Just curious…is the rear-firing driver out of phase (dipole) or in-phase (bipole) with the front driver?
Wired in phase.
Are those Peerless full range drivers available for purchase anywhere? What model are they? Thx!
They are all our drivers and they are available from our website.
Hi Danny, Will these speakers have matching speakers stands and will they be able to bolt to the stands? Thanks in advance.
Stands are in the plans but will come a bit later.
@@dannyrichie9743 Thanks for reaching out.
It looks beautiful. I would leave the baffle and side panels just the way they are.
Pretty much! I like the look as it is now, but if it can be refined, why not?

Crazy how Canadians would rather buy Made in China products vs Made in USA products now that we are under attack !?!
I want a pair. Placing these 3ft+ into the room might be tough.
These speakers need at least hat, and no bare walls behind them.
Every time I want to sit down and do some critical listening I just pull the speaker out the marked positions. Doesn’t bother me in the slightest.
@ Then you're good.
Crazy how Canadians would rather buy Made in China products vs Made in USA products now that we are under attack !?!
Im looking forward to more information on this. Good work, trying new things is always a good idea.
Very nice to see some different engineering thought put to speaker design.
Loved the Flat Earth reference :)
Id love to hear a pair but not for 4k plus as i read some here suggested lol
look forward to learn more about those speakers. will they work with low power amps (less than 5 watts)?
We played them the other day with my 300B (9 watts) amp. They sounded beautiful with the type of music we were sending them, but for some music to be played properly the 9 watt amp was a little out of juice or at its limits.
thanks for your reply. my 2 watts might not be enough for those but still look forward to learn more about them!

I am not even comparing myself to Danny of course, but in the course of my about 40 years as an music lover and audiophile , i ahve had , heard many speakers , i have build a couple of them also,
Funny is that the best d.i.y speaker that i have ever build was also a little wide band driver augmented by a 6,5 inch mid-woofer .
There really is something special about this formula and while some folks might feel Danny and I are hyping the hell out of it - I can assure you it’s the real deal. By a wide margin, this is the best stand mount speaker I’ve ever spent time with.
More than likely because it didn't require a lot of crossover design.
It’s because of phase and time alignment.
Always here for it, Danny. Can't wait!
Wow, I would love to hear them in person, nice job! I got a question for you. What about multitone distortion on wideband drivers?
If they are not overdriven then there is no distortion issue.

Amazing , in the '60 ies Philips made some speakers with a full range and bass 2way....sound still amazing
The new speakers are pre-made? Is there going to be a kit like the other speakers?
Nope.
My guess is that if you have the ability to bring them out from the wall, you have a larger room to begin with and could just go for floorstanders.
so will you be showing them at Axpona in April ? or any of the other shows coming up?.
We'll see.
Danny, I already own some of your components and I love them all. Thank you!
Your government is about to slap a 25% tariff on all goods from my country, which will result in probably the same tariffs coming the other way. That will probably put them out of range $ for me that really sucks 😢
Still looking forward to all your videos 😊
Better order soon then.
Stop buying fentanyl.
I have no doubt soundstage and imaging will be great but is the weight of a deep male voice preserved with the smaller drivers and the transition between the drivers right in the middle of the midrange?
They beat anything I've ever heard in that range.
Wait? This high n woofer on top AND a set of 3 8 inch servo subs below? Per speaker?
Yes Sir.
I'm not in the market for speakers but i do wish Ron well in this venture.
Thank you!
Really curious how these compare to the NX Studios. I held off on potentially purchasing those once I heard about this new line coming out.
The Studios sound more analytical, quicker, and offer greater resolution in the top end. The Studio vocals (especially female) sound slightly thinner and less holographic or three-dimensional but are more precise and laser-focused.
@@Newrecordday Oh man that's just making it harder to decide lol.
