      Romans 6.23
      For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.
      John 3:16-21
      16 For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life. 17 For God sent not his Son into the world to condemn the world; but that the world through him might be saved. 18 He that believeth on him is not condemned: but he that believeth not is condemned already, because he hath not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God. 19 And this is the condemnation, that light is come into the world, and men loved darkness rather than light, because their deeds were evil. 20 For every one that doeth evil hateth the light, neither cometh to the light, lest his deeds should be reproved. 21 But he that doeth truth cometh to the light, that his deeds may be made manifest, that they are wrought in God.
      Mark 1.15
      15 And saying, The time is fulfilled, and the kingdom of God is at hand: repent ye, and believe the gospel.
      2 Peter 3:9
      The Lord is not slack concerning his promise, as some men count slackness; but is longsuffering to us-ward, not willing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance.
      Hebrews 11:6
      6 But without faith it is impossible to please him: for he that cometh to God must believe that he is, and that he is a rewarder of them that diligently seek him.

    I saw the whole episode, they cut the vid a bit short, the outcome was: Woman who have given birth have a higher pain tolerance, man have a higher tolerance than woman who haven't given birth. The full outcome makes sense, because boy's tend to play rougher and tend to do rougher sports, so experience more pain. The scientific outcome is: The more pain you have experienced, the higher your tolerance of pain becomes.

      +ThEwAcKySiBlInGs I don't know about the studies you revert to, but it doesn't explain why in the mythbuster - experiment women who have given birth can take more pain than woman who haven't given birth. Unless giving birth chances the amount of testosterone in women for a long time.
      Men tend to have more testosterone than woman, so why did we (men) score lower than woman who have given birth. I do think it has to do with the amount of pain one has experienced.
      i disagree with you, on the screaming and crying. In the army they taught us to first aid the once that weren't able to scream anymore and help the ones that still had the strength to scream second.

    "Clinical studies by the journal of Psychosomatic Medicine found that "men had higher pain thresholds and tolerances and lower pain ratings than women" when exposed to cold pressor pain. The study asked participants to submerge their hands in ice water (the cold pressor pain procedure) and told members of the experimental group (as opposed to the control group) that they would be compensated financially for keeping their hand submerged." This video proves nothing. It all comes down to the individual.

      There also another study that looked at pain aversion and willingness to money in order to avoid pain, that I encourage you to look at. Done by researcher daniela pasheva of Institute for Social Medicine and Health Economics, and co.
      this was the abstract
      "This article presents experimental evidence on forced choices between inferior alternatives. In asking subjects to make trade offs between an experimentally induced cold-pressor pain of different durations and paying money to avoid the administration of pain, we try to shed some light on the questions: (a) are there any gender differences in elicited willingness to pay (WTP) values for pain; (b) when present, is differing WTP across genders better explained by measures of risk-aversion or measures of loss-aversion; and (c) we further investigate whether there are variations in hypothetically elicited WTP values (hypothetical pain and hypothetical money) and WTP values elicited when subjects face real consequences (both real pain and real money). Our results confirmed the hypothesis of significant gender differences in elicited WTP values in both the hypothetical and real groups. We also found some evidence of significant differences due to the treatment. Subjects who experienced the cold-pressor pain only once (hypothetical group) exhibited on average greater WTP compared with subjects who experienced the cold-pressor pain multiple times (real group). Females, however, stated lower WTP in the real treatment while for males the effect was in the opposite direction. Moreover, we found risk attitudes to be significantly associated with WTP while loss-aversion not. (PsycINFO Database Record (c) 2012 APA, all rights reserved)(journal abstract)"
      May I ask a question in the study you are speaking about were the participants expected to experience the cold pressure test only once?
      And I also would like to add that the monetary rewards may not have eliminated any effects from the social conditioning perspective. While men are expected to be stoic, and non-expressive of pain, women can and are encouraged to express pain if they want to. However part of the masculine image is not only to "bare with it" but to be the breadwinner as well, so I think you should think about that as well

That would be my uneducated guess for not sending all/majority of the womsn to fight in war. There's probably more reasons and better ones but this is what I thought of first.

  • @thisisreal1437
    @thisisreal1437 9 років тому +14

    I don't really think that women have a high pain tolerance like from birth. I think it's just that women typically are forced to go through a lot more pain as their life goes on so then we build up a tolerance for it. For example like with periods and pregnancy. But men aren't forced to go through those things so in order for them to build up a higher pain tolerance then they would have to go out and try to pain themselves to build up a better pain tolerance which really nobody does. That is why they have a lower pain tolerance. If that makes sense. So like if you tested little girls vs little boys then there would really be no difference because the girls haven't gone through periods and pregnancy yet. But I don't really think the pain tolerance that women build up is very significant. There really is no way to get used to horrible period cramps or pregnancy.

It's not about which sex is better, it's about individual disciplin. I can admire these women for their courage and I can hate these men for their cowardness, but what's more important is how ballzy I am, not how some dudes of my sex are (and it's the same thing for you). • @Gilmaris
    @Gilmaris 14 років тому +1

    Moreover, why do you suppose fighting and hunting roles are traditionally male? Part of the reason is because men, being able to have more children than women, are more expendable. But another part is that men are physically bigger and stronger than women (again, on average), and so are by nature better suited to those tasks. And so men have experienced physical pain on a far more regular basis, and indeed pain tolerance has always been considered an admirable and musculin trait in a man.

    Some people’s tolerance for pain is attached to the fact that they do not care about the damage to their body or are ignorance to it. Slicing my finger with a sharp razor only hurts because of my thoughts of the damage to the flesh. The actual razor cut doesn’t hurt much

    Just wanted to add something for the people who keep saying 'muscle does more than fat'. Well, muscle weighs more, muscle has more nerves than fat, muscle can absorb more force because it is denser('impact' resistance), but muscle is HORRIBLE at insulating temperatures. The test is flawed because they are providing pain indirectly through cold.

    I mean all in all we really don't know who has a higher pain threshold. I have browsed through countless peer reviewed articles and it all comes down to hormonal influence and societal enculteration. Men are more likely to cover up their emotions then women because its seen as a sign of "weakness". So even if men showed less emotional distress to an injury does not mean they necessarily have a higher pain threshold. It has a lot more to do with social norms expected of each gender.

    @becomepostal Yeees, childbirth is essential. But pain tolerance in childbirth does not translate to pain tolerance in general. This is because during labour, the mother-to-be produces pain killing hormones in considerable more quantities than she does at any other time, and also which makes the vaginal canal more elastic.
    When it comes to SELECTION, whether natural or sexual, men's pain tolerance has always been far more important than women's pain tolerance.

    @Koyzo11 Yes it does. The pain sensed here is the result of chemicals released from damaged cells. These cells are damaged by the cold temperature. Fat insulates these cells causing them to not change temperature as fast. Muscle would not do this as muscle is below the nerves in the lower layers of the skin. Fat surrounds them. Therefore, the fat would insulate the cells around the nerves delaying the release of these chemicals.

    they did several studies and concluded that women feel more pain then men, men can withstand alot more pain then women. It makes sense, for thousands of years men where the ones doing all the work, women stayed home and cared for the young while men did all the work, we risked our lives hunting ferocious animals providing food for all the women, we were the ones travelling huge distances and crossing oceans to explore and concur. We are stronger, tougher and smarter then women.

  • @Ciran87
    @Ciran87 14 років тому

    @Koyzo11 That may or may not be true, but kidney stones are also a lot less common and are completely avoidable if you have the right diet. Child birth is also completely avoidable, but that is a lot less compelling for a variety of reasons, which I'm sure are obvious, so therefore women still have a biological reason to have a higher pain tolerance.

    • @JoelteonChannel
      @JoelteonChannel 10 років тому +4

      furzle1552 I think birth and everything else is a different area entirely. If birth is how you are comparing it, then from everything I've heard, no woman on the planet should be hurt by anything after giving birth. As you get injured, you develop a pain tolerance, the less you are hurt, the less that tolerance is. Btw the "If you have given birth you would be more used to pain" Not true, unless that birth was on a regular basis.

    For all the people arguing that this test is flawed because skin color affects how much temp based pain you feel. Since the majority of the test subjects in both groups have the same skin color and only one subject in each group has a significant difference in skin color this test is still valid, although admittedly not for every race of people.

    • @MrDapotpie
      @MrDapotpie 5 років тому +1

      There wasn’t any sort of control. The subjects knew what they were doing. The list of reasons this could skew the results are a mile long.

    As for pain that kills, no it doesn't, but shock can kill. Pain can bring about shock, but this is hardly relevant to the discussion. When women die in labour, it is primarily because of haemmorhaging, infections or cardiac arrest. The two first have nothing at all to do with pain tolerance, and the third only in conjunction with shock.
