I have never heard the Simon Baseline Smith - Mine! What a tune! Stunning music. An analogue Kosh! Hahaha. Yes, that label and the last track especially, were on the cusp of hardcore and D&B. In many ways they were the genesis for Intelligent D&B that followed later. Fascinating - thank you for sharing!

I popped into a local charity shop last week and in between the James Last and Ken Dodd lps was an original copy of gwange motionless, it looks as new as the day it was pressed, never played... needless to say I paid the asking price of £1 with shaking hands nearly dropping my pocket change. The bargains are still out there, all these years later... great channel, can we have Krome & Time's Zodiac Records, and Suburban Base Please??
I'm trying to work out if you're being serious about the Gwange track. If you are then that's scandalous. Gwange begins with a G...what the ##"" was it doing between J and K ??!!!! You can't get the staff these days.
Yeah, was a very random find, they had Omni Trio Vol 4 on Shadow 12" too. Also £1 and like it's never bern played... I started buying vinyl in 91. It's' still nice to find a bargain tho
Legend is probably the best quality label going. Not one bad tune on it. I jump about for my favourite tunes on it. Currently maybe Q Project - Beyond this World, the green label one. Rikers Island and code 001 are also great and have unique elements and drums that I’ve not heard since.

I did sound engineering at Kingston Hill Uni and shopped at Slammin’ Vinyl in the mid nineties and knew Chris who was running the jungle section there. Him, my mate Lawrie and another ex student from New Malden formed the Usual Suspects who got signed to Renegade Hardware! you must of grown up round that area? 👊
Hi mate 😊 yeah I grew up not too far from Kingston. Went to school near there and actually lived in Kingston for a number of years down the line. Moved away from there now, but lots of memories in that part of the world.

Night moves and motionless really nice tunes.. the build up of beats,bass n breaks and then the piano drop on motionless is such a rush . I have both tunes n love mixing them . Most of the stuff pressed on L.S was 93 onwards and quickly moved towards DnB and Jungle, so I didn't buy a huge amount, but I do have some corkers in the box.

I only got the early ones , coz as you said they went jungle , .. I progressed into techno and made my name playing that at various raves like helter skelter, hardcore heaven , def row techno, .... but I still love my old skool the most .. 1988-93/4.. when we were all one family ,
Just checking on Discogs, I've got ten on this label. I remember hearing Champion Sound the first time in a shop and going whoa. That baseline smith one was a big Top Buzz tune. I have the first tune he did on white but I never knew what it was until I put it into Discogs about 15 years ago (going off the matrix number). You should do his label next, some absolute early hardcore bangers on that label (Absolute 2/Zero).

I just remembered that you asked about the black ring around my tonearm... It's insulation tape wrapped around multiple times to add additional weight. The Ortofon's I use have a recommended tracking force of 4g's ... and I just can't achieve that on my 1210's even with the counterweight wound right in. I'd be interested in other people's take and experience with this actually. The Ortofon's are so light weight. Anyhow, the tape does the trick...I have the tracking weight spot on according to my scales.
It was very sad to hear about the death of Mallorca Lee from Ultrasonic a few days ago. Did you know him or did you see them live back in the day? I saw U S in Circus Circus in '93. Top night!

It always makes me laugh that the 1994 Happy Hardcore album by Jumpin' & Pumpin' has Slipmatt - Breaking Free (DJ SS Rollers Mix) on it as the first track, it's a banging tune and an absolute top draw classic, but it most definitely aint Happy Hardcore, I mean, come on, it's the DJ SS Rollers Mix, that's drum & bass all day long 😂👍
@@dancemusicorganisation Yeah... if like me, you moved away from the scene by the time it fully crossed into purist DnB and Jungle.. then it's easy to embrace all of the crossover period tracks within one category...being just 'Hardcore'. I get that this might bug the more exacting and knowledgeable folk out there...I understand that 🙏 When I speak of hardcore, I include everything that was being experimented with in numerous directions at the time without being overly/obviously switched 100% into techno ... drum and bass... or Jungle. The lines blurred as we got deep into 94...just as lines would be blurry if you were to look at any evolutionary process. My personal taste includes some very arguably 'switched' tracks within this transient period ... but rarely (although not completely) includes the clearly, easily definable purist arena of those new genres.

Also Techno has evolved over the years, there is also trance, hard trance, progressive trance, hard house, hard dance, progressive house, disco house, happy house, and a whole bunch of other genre's that always had tunes that could fit in many of them at the same time, it's what was so great about that early period, 89-93 - is it techno, is it house, is it acid, is it hardcore, no one really cared back then, just danced and had a good time 😜

Also Techno has evolved over the years, there is also trance, hard trance, progressive trance, hard house, hard dance, progressive house, disco house, happy house, and a whole bunch of other genre's that always had tunes that could fit in many of them at the same time, it's what was so great about that early period, 89-93 - is it techno, is it house, is it acid, is it hardcore, no one really cared back then, just danced and had a good time 😜
Such high quality tunes on this label. Sort of bridging the gap between hardcore and drum and bass.

Most of the stuff pressed on L.S was 93 onwards and quickly moved towards DnB and Jungle didn't it...
I didn't buy a huge amount on that label, but I do have some corkers.

No mate, I moved further south a number of years back. But I still have family quite close to Kingston...and spend a fair bit of time there.
@@rave-vinyl-reminiscence … we swapped places then, I was born and raved in Bournemouth. Kingston isn’t far from me. Slammin vinyl is long gone what a shame… there’s only one record shop left in Kingston stacks of wax recently closed their doors too.
