That's right, he's very grounded and still goes home every chance he gets. This song was so sad since his brother died while he was away. I hope BEP will make a strong comeback.
Apl is the only Filipino in the US who became big who didn't use his heritage as a "props" nor was he ashamed of it. For someone who left the Philippines at age 11, it's amazing he still speaks Tagalog AND Kapampangan. Many 1.5 generation lose their heritage..and he's the only one who seems to be not hesitant to have Tagalog in their album.
I am Korean I am now 32 yrs old when i was 14yrs old i was in Philippines that song was my first pop song on the radio i still remember that i miss my Philippines friends my name was Martin.lee

This song reminds me of being young in high school in the late 2000s. A school friend I had at the time showed & taught me this song. I am Mexican & have always been fascinated by cultural differences, languages, foreign food etc.
We came from the same school Holy Angel University, Apl de ap is a good boy then, he was in high school, I was in college, I see him running around the school, a very active boy struggling to blend-in, he was often discriminated because of his color, but God is good he was blessed. There is a building in that school dedicated to his name!!!!😊😊😊
I wouldn't say that discriminated is the appropriate word. He was teased, as teasing is a favorite past time of Filipinos. Everyone gets teased in RP for a good laugh, and some more than others.
I'm not the biggest Black Eyed Peas fan, but this song is so beautiful. It bring tears to my eyes everytime i hear it. It's so cool that Fergie, Will.i.am and Taboo gave this space to Apl express his feelings in this song. Much respect
Here’s the translation of the Philippine part of the song from a friend: “Come around friends and listen, I’ve some news coming from the land I was born, I want to share the stories and what’s happening in the promised land” From what I was told by a friend from the Philippines (who I served with in the first Gulf War), this song was originally about the Islamic rebellion in the southern part of the country in the 70’s. It was like brother against brother and blood against blood and it’s still going for almost 50 years now. I don’t know who’s the band that originally performed it but I think I’ve heard it before about 20 or so years ago when I visited him and his family in Escondido.
@@canto10mosha65 nice one. But as a Filipino, I think a more accurate translation would be: Come closer my friends and listen I’m bringing news from my homeland I want to share the stories Of the incidents that are happening In the Land of Promise.

This song brings tears to my eyes when I think of a Filipina friend, a fellow nanny, who is trapped in a Qatari Sheikh's household, working 24/7 looking after a little prince but earning a pittance... all so that she can provide her little boy back home with a future. She's sacrificing her life for him.
Apl spoke Tagalog in the video, but his home town speaks Kapampangan since he is from Pampanga. He could actually speak kapampangan himself. What a rare soul for someone to not forget his roots in a culture of colonial mentality. P.S. Listening from the future.

Beautiful song that echo's the sentiments of everyone who ever left home seeking a better life and those loved ones left behind. I'm the youngest of 4 kids and the only girl. The boy's are 7,8 and 9 years older than I. My oldest brother protected me as much as possible from the poison that was our reality of a home life and when ever possible would take me everywhere with him. We had a mum and dad, lived in a nice neighbourhood but inside the house was our "getto" our dad was great when sober but drunk - the most vile evil person appeared and no one escaped the violence. My brother had enough by the time he was 20 told mum was leaving Scotland for Australia ( he had his 21st birthday on the way there) I remember entering the room oblivious to either, and hearing him tell mum I was only 11 years old and the only person who ever loved me in my family and me them was going forever, the tears were falling down my face as I silently cried, I didn't want them to hear me so I left the room quietly. I didn't want to ruin my brothers new beginning by loading him up with guilt. Fortunately we have close family in Australia who made him feel like he really belonged there, or I've no doubt he would have returned home. Although it was a long time until I saw my brother again, the only time I feel at home is when I travel to Australia to see him. A few years ago I told him and our cousin about overhearing him telling mum he was leaving and about my crying, he said he wished all those years that he'd just stuck me into his backpack and had taken me with him. Home really is where ever your family are.
iiFinalBullet Thank you, the one's that have suffered are my 3 brothers, as they have been around longer and seen more. I have a good life, home, career and husband, although he can be grumpy, he means well, and I've got my beautiful cats. I hope you have a good life too :D

The song is about Apl's early life in the Philippines where he grew up. The music video is about a Filipino veteran living in a nursing home here in the US for all those asking questions about this song.

@@hersweetconfessions well, when I first heard it during the closing ceremony, it wasn't in English so I assumed it was in Filipino. I came to youtube and typed in "Black Eyed Peas Filipino" and two videos came up, "Bebot" and this song. I listened to both and that is how I found it!
For me as a filipino 90's child BEP is a legendary group of singers in U.S., and this songs proves that Apl de ap is one of them showing his love for country shows in the music and I appreciate and thanked his friends Mr. Will I'am, Mr. Tabuu, and Ms. Fergie for their support to our fellow filipinos .. Love ya'll
I can't wait to visit the Philippines in the future. This song reminds me of my grandparents and mother because my mom and the family came from the Philippines when she was 14 and this was the song I dedicated to my grandparents when they passed. This song will forever be a gem, something that can never be forgotten
when I listened and watch this video my tears suddenly flowing omg! I want all filipinos will help each other so that we can experience a very harmonious relationship! i really love this song!

I really liked the fact that they let Apl had a song in his home land language and also this one. I also kinda miss BEP and their old funk vibe... Right now it's all about 2 ppl ..hard to call them a band tbh..and lets not forget it was just 3 of them before. I wish them all best and i hope they will come back to old style someday.
MyuNeptune Asians get no love. It’s a pity because we got so much good shit. The black and white producers don’t let the Asian sound make the cut in the final albums because “it won’t make money”. They should give him at least 1 b side song per album, after all, as you said, they’re supposed to be a “band”.
APL is really a strong and amazing man. I read his early life in wiki and you will discover how hard his life was. Not even once did he surrender, he keeps moving forward and never forgets his parents teachings which includes his belief to God, being proud of his roots and having a strong will and optimism to keep moving forward.
This song saved my life!! Truly an inspiration to all Filipinos. I say that we filipinos are amazing! You can never be more proud!! I want you to all know that we can make it through the rain. I can almost see it. I can almost reach it! It's all about the climb! Keep the faith my fellow Filipinos 🇵🇭🇵🇭
My great grandfather was a WW2 veteran soldier, It's a blessing of disguise the he never ended in a terrible place. Im so glad that he helped our town to lift the possibilities.
"Sometimes life's stresses get you down on your knees. Oh brother how I wish I could have helped you out." The song is also a tribute to his brother who committed suicide.
Such a tune. My husband played this and it was the first I heard it. Absolutely love it. Resonates so much with how my people in my village live back in my Ancestral Land of Papua New Guinea. Jah bless from Aotearoa
I’m a Filipino and I’m still listening to this song since highschool. This song is always making me emotional up until now.. I love this song.. I love how proud Apl showed our country in many ways... Salute to you bro! 🙌🏼
anti diablo not really a folk song, they copied the chorus from the song Balita, meaning news. The original was written by the band asin. What you would call folk song is more a traditional song
Wow I was a HUGE Black Eyes Peas fan in the early 2000s and I had no idea they ever made a music video for this song. They never played it on MTV or other cable music networks so there wasn’t really a way to see it back then. This was surprising to learn about 20 years later...
I grew up in the suburbs just before I was taken to the U.S. I still have had recollection of being a child there, living comfortably without knowing that outside my town's circumference had held a view that I was shielded from as a child. Returning back home this past month, I came to realize the my very own people were suffering. It's much more deeper seeing them in real life than in pictures or videos, seeing them suffering even at a young age. I've had my ups and downs in life, tried to make do with what I but I feel like I haven't appreciated it to the fullest till I saw those kids who were so hungry that they were just skin and bones. Para sa lahat ng mga Filipino at parteng Filipino, wag ninyo ikalimutan ang pinanggalingan ninyo (for all of the filipinos and part filipinos, don't forget where you came from).
Every time I listen to this song I cry. I listen to it every year to remind me to be proud of where I came from and my heritage. And to remind me to be grateful of what blessing I have in the US. And its sad cause a lot of Filipinos get sucked into a different culture and pretend to be something they're not...
I remember way back in 2004 when I sang this in one of our gigs. Until now I can still remember the lyrics from beginning till the end. What a great song. :) APL you're the best man. :)
Filipino culture is so beautiful. My first true love was Filipino and black. Such a amazing person. My friends in California who are Filipino are like family. The food omg amazing.
Before The Black Eyed Peas made it big they used our space at SIPA to rehearse and even had one of their first performances at a SIPA event. We are very proud of Apl for being one of our most famous SIPA kids!

“Come around friends and listen,

From what I was told by a friend from the Philippines (who I served with in the first Gulf War), this song was originally about the Islamic rebellion in the southern part of the country in the 70’s. It was like brother against brother and blood against blood and it’s still going for almost 50 years now. hi lauramae
I don't know Tagalog or what the words mean, but I sing along with the song when I hear it. It's my favorite BEP song.
@@Avacarho the whole chorus means "come to me my countrymen, and listen. I have some news to tell you from the promise land"
I'm a filipino. And I'm so proud that some of my kababayan are so famous not only in our own country but all over the WORLD.Although some of them are just half, but still,I'm so proud..Like Apl de ap,Lea Salonga,Enrique Iglesias,Bruno Mars and many more!
Heard this song in the SEA closing ceremony and it was so good. Came to youtube to search for it and I am glad that I found it. Well done to all the athletes from all the SEA countries!
See you in Vietnam, from Malaysia! 🇲🇾🇲🇾🇲🇾🇲🇾🇲🇾🇲🇾🇲🇾🇲🇾
How did you search it? Wow 😂
@@combat2064 wow. Great! He ( Apl d ap) actually sing this song tlo during opening ceremony
Nice nice nice
I wonder how the athletes too thinking of when he was singing
I just heard this song for the first time today!. 09.06.2022. I love it, i lose my 24 years not listening this music. Thank you for such a song
I swear that is so sad and heartwarming Black Eyed Peas is gold and top number one
Man im missing the Philippines so much while listening to this song. God, take me back there someday. Love from India.
Why does such a meaningful song has only less than a hundred million views while non-sense songs nowadays are above a hundred million views...
I live in the Philippines and I'm feeling very grateful that I never suffered being hungry or uncomfortable. I have God and my parents to thank for that...
Shout out to the Philippines 💯💯 🇵🇭

I really liked the fact that they let Apl had a song in his home land language and also this one. I also kinda miss BEP and their old funk vibe... Right now it's all about 2 ppl ..hard to call them a band tbh..and lets not forget it was just 3 of them before. I wish them all best and i hope they will come back to old style someday.
They just made a new song c:
MyuNeptune Asians get no love. It’s a pity because we got so much good shit. The black and white producers don’t let the Asian sound make the cut in the final albums because “it won’t make money”. They should give him at least 1 b side song per album, after all, as you said, they’re supposed to be a “band”.
Listen to their latest album because holy shit are they back to their old sound alright
right!!!!!! cant agree more
Tnx u from the philippines.
Try ti visit our beautiful country
Filipino here this song make me cry 😭😭, Philippines is a country you will hate to love , ❤️
APL is really a strong and amazing man. I read his early life in wiki and you will discover how hard his life was. Not even once did he surrender, he keeps moving forward and never forgets his parents teachings which includes his belief to God, being proud of his roots and having a strong will and optimism to keep moving forward.
Hate to break it to you but wiki is not a reliable source of information
@@khabibmcgregor3592 hate to break it to you, but neither are you.
big respect from macedonia to the philippines
This song saved my life!! Truly an inspiration to all Filipinos. I say that we filipinos are amazing! You can never be more proud!! I want you to all know that we can make it through the rain. I can almost see it. I can almost reach it! It's all about the climb! Keep the faith my fellow Filipinos 🇵🇭🇵🇭
My great grandfather was a WW2 veteran soldier, It's a blessing of disguise the he never ended in a terrible place. Im so glad that he helped our town to lift the possibilities.

"Sometimes life's stresses get you down on your knees. Oh brother how I wish I could have helped you out."
The song is also a tribute to his brother who committed suicide.
And the youngest one was murdered at 22 yrs
i am still hear this song in 2017 ..Respect from Sabah -Borneo(Malaysia) we are brotherhood nusantara -Asean blood.
Goosebump.. Even Other South East Asian athletes now understand the life of Apl from nothing to something
Always loved this song even though I'm not Filipino.
Apl copied the local folk song...very good song choice...
anti diablo not really a folk song, they copied the chorus from the song Balita, meaning news. The original was written by the band asin. What you would call folk song is more a traditional song
They didn't copy they borrowed
not a folks song, it was a protest song made during the marcos martial law period which was the 1970s-1980s
charmyoe i'm half filipino☺
Like your family. Right?
Real Life.
Real Story.
Real Pilipino.

Before The Black Eyed Peas made it big they used our space at SIPA to rehearse and even had one of their first performances at a SIPA event. We are very proud of Apl for being one of our most famous SIPA kids!
I love this Song of Black Eyed Peas..super Authentic APL,
