yesterday was my first time playing goalie in an official game. i usually play defensive center or defense but never goalie. it was pretty exciting! we lost 3-1 but it was better than other times where we lost 7-0. thank you for this video!
I have been a keeper for about maybe 5 maybe 6 years, and was put into the net for this years 8th grade football tournament. I wanted to find videos for everyone for their positions in my team since I'm captain, i came across this and learned so much from this, thanks
He actually went over a few advanced techniques. Great tutorial and easy to understand. Keeping is the hardest position in football and he makes it sound easy. Keep up the great work.
this is also a good review for experienced goalies. like I play for my highschool soccer and I wanted to make sure I'm doing the stuff right amd reminding myself of good techniques
I've been a goalkeeper for 3 years, i never knew about the "w" technique, i just let the ball hit my hand and i catch it after it bounces, but i recently started using the "w" technique and it has paid off very greatly, got more saves and the opponents weren't very easily adaptive to the change, they got used to the "w" technique though and they know to stay back instead of challenge the ball as it's clearly heading straight to my hands, thanks for the great tips dude!
My 9 year old son has never played soccer before is going to try keeper since he's not a great runner and happens to be really tall. I never played soccer either so this is massively helpful to bring us up to speed on the basics before throwing him into a game that most other kids have been playing their whole lives.
It's really impressive how much is well covered in this video. I've been playing keeper almost-weekly since our first choice is often unavailable, for the past year ,and I still go back to this video to pickup tips and details regularly. I'm finally graduating to a the half volley and side volley, but other than that this is really comprehensive.
I am 14 and I am usually a Centre Midfielder. I had volunteered to keep for our first game. I actually did well and the match ended with 0-0. Watching this video this improve :)
You nailed it on the head, Sunday soccer guy recently being recruited for keeper. This is the most comprehensive and concise video I've seen. Can't wait to get out there and try these skills out. Thank you so much for the video!
I have been a goalie for almost 30 years (with several breaks). We have been taught all the basics defferent back in the days. I‘m basicslly re-learning everything. Except for diving… once your body knows how to do that, there is no going back 😂
Another key tip for positioning is imagining a pole going through the ball to the center of your goal, then positioning yourself so the pole goes right between your legs. This will put you in the correct position then just figure out how far back or forward to stand
Dude, this was an awesome video. I might be drafted in GK position for my Sunday league team that I'm helping run, feel so much better already about the idea of it, will definitely be watching your other videos! 👍👍👍
I have played i goal for five years and I have been slated many times over the years but I still find it hard not to play with a smile on my face if anyone is considering becoming a keeper do it it is so rewarding me and my team won a cup a few years ago on pens and I saved the penalty so rewarding
I’ve played baseball my whole life, but now I want to try something brand new. I’ve never played soccer, but I have a decent right foot and have good hand eye coordination from baseball. Do you think it is worth it for me to try and become a goalie? Any advice in the comments is greatly appreciated.
thanks for this. it’s my first season as a goalie and we lost our second game 8-0 and i feel like it’s all my fault (even though my defense were lazy lol), hopefully out game in 2 days will be better
This really helped me! The match ended 6-0 we won and I was a benched gk it was a tournament final so I camed to the pitch after half time and I have 18 cleansheets thanks for these tips/tutorials!
Great video, i played goalie for several years but quitted and didn't played for a big time now, was good for refreshing those things 😎 thanks mate, nice video though
I got thrown in net for like 5 indoor boarded games because our only keeper was injured; I'm a midfielder too. I was pretty bad but it was fun and I'd love to try in outdoor. Great vid!
16:04 The high jump for high ball, you forgot to mention the most crucial part for a goalkeeper.. Which is one knee up to protect ourselves from impact.. Jump with the strongest leg and shield ourselves with the non jumping leg with knee up..
Went out to the pitch…. So they say it’s called ! no soccer experience other than supporting my un athletic friends! Challenged me to play in the net! 4-0-1 thinking I’m the man but last match got my ass worked when we played equal talent! Took the first L of my career but I made so many stupid mistakes that this video covers and very helpful for training ! We should have won though! Had a save that bounced off a defender for an own goal and diving ground save into my own net! If I would have stepped forward maybe the save we needed for a W!
Soccer starts tomorrow for me and it’s my first time every playing and the coach already said she wants me to be goalie bc she’s seen how aggressive I am in softball and she thinks I’m going to be good at it. The only reason I’m playing soccer this year is bc the team is in need of players and idk if we’re gonna have a season. But I signed up and got all the stuff for it so hopefully we do bc my parents just spent a lot of money getting me all of the stuff I need. Wish me luck.
@@mineer5249terrible. my first game I got hit pretty well and broke my ribs and then during one of our practices I hit the post with my head diving for a ball and got a concussion and was out for a few practices

Question , if a goalie and a striker attack an aerial ball same time outside the small box and the goalie touches the ball and the head of the striker collides with his arms and goalie drops the ball is it a fault ? I know that the small box offers protection for goalies but in my example the goalie is outside in the main bigger box .
I am just under 5'11... I have been watching my mates who are around 6.3..etc .. the average.. for a professional GK. having said that they are somewhat slow and I have been moving faster than them and I can stretch further than them!
Don't hit the ground with your leg cause when something goes wrong standing up is harder then when you have your leg just not on the ground at the bowling ball
Yup. I go more in depth on my video covering front smothers about not putting your leg on the ground. Should have been more clear in this one though to make sure your knee is at least a few inches off the ground.
Just played GK for the 3rd time ever, and we lost 8-1. I feel terrible, but my team said I did well. Gonna practice more this week, and hopefully, next week will be better.
